What Happened at the Scene
The call came in through Mexico’s C5 emergency system from Rodríguez’s wife, Mary Carmen Rodríguez Lucero, a competitive cyclist and mother of two. She told dispatchers she was a victim of physical assault and warned about the “dangerousness of the aggressor.” Officers responded to the couple’s home in the Lomas del Tecnológico neighborhood and observed visible injuries on her face and arms.2Yahoo Sports. The case was referred to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Attention to Women, Family and Sexual Crimes. Prosecutors reportedly evaluated two possible charges. The first is domestic violence, which carries a sentence of one to seven years in prison. The second is a more serious charge of injuries committed against a woman based on her gender, which could carry a sentence of eight to 20 years if the injuries are deemed severe, degrading, or part of a pattern of violence.3Yahoo Sports. A Prior Case in Texas
The April 2026 arrest was not Rodríguez’s first serious criminal case. On May 9, 2020, San Antonio police arrested him on a charge of sexual assault, and in October 2020 a Bexar County grand jury indicted him on one count of aggravated kidnapping and four counts of sexual assault. The complainant was a former partner. Rodríguez posted a $50,000 bond and remained free while the case moved through the 226th State District Court under Judge Velia Meza.4KSAT. Fallout in Wrestling
Rodríguez had been working with the Mexican promotion The Crash Lucha Libre and appeared on multiple shows in early 2026. Two days after his arrest, the company announced an indefinite suspension. “The Crash Lucha Libre is a company with values that promotes sport entertainment in a family way, and disapproves any act of violence,” the promotion stated. “For this reason we will suspend Alberto Del Río ‘El Patrón’ from our programming after the recent events.”8Wrestling Inc. It is not the first time a promotion has cut ties after allegations against him. In July 2017, days after winning what was then Global Force Wrestling’s unified world championship, Rodríguez was suspended indefinitely following a domestic incident at Orlando International Airport, and Impact’s leadership consulted with legal counsel and stripped him of the title.9Bleacher Report.
