If you’re checking on your AT&T settlement check status, here’s the plain answer: no checks have gone out for the $177 million AT&T data breach settlement, and there is no individual claim tracker where you can look up your own submission. The case is still waiting on final approval from a federal judge, and until that happens, everyone who filed a claim is in the same holding pattern.
One important thing to sort out first. There are two different AT&T settlements floating around, and people mix them up constantly. The data breach settlement (the $177 million one tied to the 2024 breaches) has not paid anyone yet. A separate, older AT&T Mobility tax settlement has been mailing checks on a rolling basis. If a check has already shown up in your mailbox, it’s almost certainly from the tax case. More on how to tell them apart below.
Where the Data Breach Settlement Stands
The case, In re: AT&T Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation, is being handled in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas by Judge Ada Brown.1U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas. MDL 3:24-md-03114 Judge Brown granted preliminary approval on June 20, 2025, and class notices went out starting in August 2025.2CPM Legal. The final approval hearing ran six hours on January 15, 2026. The judge heard from plaintiffs’ attorneys, AT&T’s counsel, two court-appointed special masters, and several objectors.3CourtListener. How To Check On Your Claim
There is no online portal that shows the status of an individual claim. The settlement website doesn’t offer that feature, and the settlement administrator, Kroll, has only said it is “reviewing and processing claims” while the court considers its decision.4Telecom Data Settlement. If you have a specific question about your submission, three channels reach the administrator:
- Phone: (833) 890-4930
- Website: telecomdatasettlement.com
- Mail: AT&T Data Incident Settlement, c/o Kroll Settlement Administration LLC, P.O. Box 5324, New York, NY 10150-5324

What Has To Happen Before Checks Go Out
Three steps still stand between claimants and payment:
- Judge Brown must grant final approval of the settlement.
- The appeals window that opens after approval must close, or any appeals that get filed must be resolved.
- Kroll must finish reviewing the roughly 4.38 million claims that were submitted.5New Haven Register. AT&T Data Breach Settlement Attorney Fees
If the court approves the deal and nobody appeals, distribution could begin within a few months of the ruling.5New Haven Register. AT&T Data Breach Settlement Attorney Fees If someone appeals, payments could be delayed a year or more. The court has not announced a timeline for its decision, so no firm date exists.
When you filed, you chose a payment method: a check, a digital payment, or a prepaid card.6CBS News. AT&T Data Breach Settlement: How To File a Claim Payments will go out in whatever form you selected.
How Much You Could Receive
The $177 million settlement is divided into two funds, one for each breach:
- $149 million for the March 2024 breach, which exposed names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, and account passcodes for about 73 million current and former customers.7CFO Dive. Judge Approves AT&T $177M Settlement Over Data Breach
- $28 million for the July 2024 breach, which involved call and text metadata pulled from a third-party cloud platform and affected nearly all AT&T cellular customers.4Telecom Data Settlement. AT&T Data Incident Settlement
Claimants who can document financial losses traceable to the breaches can claim up to $5,000 for the first breach and up to $2,500 for the second, capped at a combined $7,500.6CBS News. AT&T Data Breach Settlement: How To File a Claim Those are ceilings, not guarantees. Actual per-person amounts depend on how many valid claims Kroll approves, how much comes out of the fund for costs and attorney fees, and which tier you qualify for.
Within the March 2024 breach fund, claimants whose Social Security numbers were exposed fall into Tier 1 and receive five times as much per person as Tier 2 claimants, whose exposed data did not include an SSN. Both tiers get a pro rata share of what’s left after costs.8Asheville Citizen-Times. Objections Still On the Table
The court set October 17, 2025, as the deadline for class members to file objections.9U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas. Preliminary Approval Order Three individuals, Osa Massen, Audrey Jones, and Susan Savala, earlier tried to intervene and oppose preliminary approval. The court denied their motion, they appealed, and the Fifth Circuit dismissed that appeal on October 21, 2025, after the parties jointly agreed to drop it.10CourtListener. Other objectors testified at the January 2026 hearing, and supplemental briefs have continued to be filed since.3CourtListener. If You Already Got a Check, It’s Probably the Tax Case
The AT&T Mobility Wireless Data Services Sales Tax settlement resolved claims that AT&T improperly collected taxes on internet data services between November 2005 and September 2010. That case, filed in the Northern District of Illinois, is fully resolved and pays out on a rolling basis as state taxing jurisdictions release funds.11ATTM Settlement. One more possibility to rule out. In 2019 the FTC settled a separate case against AT&T over throttling of “unlimited” data customers, and it distributed a final round of roughly $6.3 million in refunds in April 2024 through a different administrator, JND Legal Administration.13Federal Trade Commission.
