Carrier Warranty Registration: 90-Day Deadline, Coverage, and Claims

Carrier warranty registration is the step that doubles your parts coverage from five years to ten on a new residential HVAC system, and you have 90 days from the installation date to complete it online at productregistration.carrier.com. Miss the window and you are locked into the five-year coverage with no way to upgrade later.1Carrier Corporation. Carrier Corporation Limited Warranty for Air Conditioner and Heat Pump Condensing Units with Puron Advance Registering within the window also unlocks a second option, the Consumer Choice Warranty, which trades some of the parts term for three years of labor coverage.

The 90-Day Deadline and Who Qualifies

The clock starts on the installation date. For a newly built home, Carrier treats the date you bought the home from the builder as the installation date.1Carrier Corporation. Carrier Corporation Limited Warranty for Air Conditioner and Heat Pump Condensing Units with Puron Advance Register after day 90 and the standard five-year parts-only warranty is what you have, permanently. You also lose access to the Consumer Choice labor option.2Carrier. Carrier Warranty Registration and Information

Only residential replacement installations qualify for the full extended terms. New residential construction and commercial applications are not eligible for the Consumer Choice Warranty, and commercial installations generally carry shorter coverage: five years on the compressor and one year on all other parts.1Carrier Corporation. Many installing dealers register equipment on your behalf as part of the job. The responsibility, though, is yours. Confirm your status with Carrier’s online warranty lookup tool using the equipment serial number before day 90, not after.3Carrier Residential. States Where Registration Is Not Required

California, Quebec, and certain other jurisdictions prohibit manufacturers from conditioning warranty benefits on product registration. If you live in one of those areas, the longer warranty period applies automatically whether or not you register.1Carrier Corporation. Carrier Corporation Limited Warranty for Air Conditioner and Heat Pump Condensing Units with Puron Advance California law specifically requires that any warranty registration card tell consumers that failing to return it does not reduce their warranty rights.4California Legislative Information. California Civil Code 1793.1 Registering still has value because it links your equipment to your address in Carrier’s database, which makes future service calls smoother.

What to Have in Front of You

Three pieces of information carry the whole process: the serial number and model number from each piece of equipment, the installation date from your contractor’s invoice, and the name or dealer ID of the installing contractor. You will also enter your mailing address and email so Carrier can tie the equipment to your property.5Carrier. Product Registration

Serial and model numbers are printed on a rating plate attached to each unit. On outdoor condensers and heat pumps, the plate is near the service valve connections. On a furnace, it sits behind the front door panel.6Carrier Residential. HVAC FAQs Heating and Cooling Answers

Completing the Online Form

Registration happens at Carrier’s dedicated portal, productregistration.carrier.com. Homeowners and dealers use separate login paths that lead to the same form. Enter serial numbers, model numbers, installation date, and dealer information. The system checks these against factory records to confirm the equipment is genuine and eligible.5Carrier. Product Registration

After submitting, you receive a confirmation page with a reference number and a follow-up email at the address you provided. Save both. That email is your permanent proof that registration happened within the 90-day window, and it settles any later question about your registration date.

Choosing Your Coverage

Register in time and Carrier presents two coverage options rather than automatically assigning one. Most homeowners do not realize this until they are already on the page.

  • Ten-year parts only. Carrier replaces defective parts at no charge for ten years. You pay all labor for diagnosis and installation.
  • Five-year parts plus three-year labor (Consumer Choice). Carrier covers both parts and labor for the first three years, then parts only for years four and five. Coverage ends after year five.

The parts-plus-labor option is only available if your installing dealer has enrolled in the Consumer Choice program. Not every dealer participates, so ask before installation day if this matters to you. Eligible products include air conditioners, heat pumps, gas and oil furnaces, fan coils, evaporator coils, packaged units, ductless systems (excluding value-tier models), humidifiers, boilers, ventilators, air purifiers, and Infinity system controls.7Carrier Corporation. Carrier Consumer Choice Limited Warranty

The labor coverage carries conditions worth knowing before you choose. Repairs must be performed by an authorized Consumer Choice dealer. You need to contact the dealer within 45 days of the part failure for the labor to be covered. And the labor benefit covers work done during regular business hours; after-hours and weekend premium charges are yours.7Carrier Corporation. Carrier Consumer Choice Limited Warranty

Which option is better depends on how long you plan to stay in the home and how hard the equipment will run. The ten-year parts term lasts twice as long. The three-year labor benefit can save real money on an early compressor or heat exchanger failure, where labor alone can run into the hundreds.

What the Warranty Covers

Carrier’s limited warranty covers replacement of internal functional components that fail due to manufacturing defects. When a covered part fails, Carrier provides a new or remanufactured replacement part at no charge.1Carrier Corporation. What the Warranty Does Not Cover

Unless you selected the Consumer Choice labor option, this is a parts-only agreement. Several costs stay yours even on a valid, registered warranty.

A covered compressor replacement means the compressor itself is free, but the labor, refrigerant, and related costs can still produce a bill in the four figures. Knowing this upfront prevents the shock of a large charge on what looked like a free repair.

Conditions That Can Void Your Coverage

A registration in good standing is not the same thing as a successful claim. Several conditions in the warranty can disqualify you entirely.

  • Skipping maintenance. Carrier requires maintenance per the manufacturer’s instructions and may ask for written documentation of annual or periodic service. Without proof such as service contracts, receipts, or filter purchase records, a claim can be denied.1Carrier Corporation. Carrier Corporation Limited Warranty for Air Conditioner and Heat Pump Condensing Units with Puron Advance
  • Mismatched equipment. Your system must be an AHRI-rated matched combination or one approved in writing by Carrier. Replacing only the outdoor unit while keeping an incompatible indoor coil can void the new unit’s warranty.
  • Non-genuine parts. Carrier advises insisting on genuine Carrier parts for repairs. Federal regulations under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prohibit a manufacturer from requiring you to use only branded parts for routine maintenance and non-warranty service unless those parts are provided free of charge. In practice, Carrier can deny a claim if a non-genuine part caused the failure, but cannot void the whole warranty because you once used an aftermarket air filter.2Carrier. Carrier Warranty Registration and Information9eCFR. 16 CFR Part 700 – Interpretations of Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act
  • Improper installation. If the unit was not installed to Carrier’s specifications and local codes, resulting defects are excluded.

Maintenance documentation is where most claims fall apart. Keep a folder, paper or digital, with every service receipt, filter purchase, and annual tune-up from the day the system goes in. A warranty that technically exists but cannot be proven is worth nothing.

Filing a Claim

When something fails, call a local authorized Carrier dealer, not Carrier directly. The dealer handles the diagnosis, verifies your warranty status, and orders the replacement part through Carrier’s system. The locator on Carrier’s website finds participating dealers in your area.2Carrier. Carrier Warranty Registration and Information

Check your warranty status yourself before the technician arrives, using the online lookup with your serial number.3Carrier Residential. Carrier Warranty Lookup You will see whether registration went through, which option you selected, and when coverage expires. Walking into a service call already knowing what you owe prevents misunderstandings.

If you selected the Consumer Choice labor warranty, the repair must be performed by an authorized Consumer Choice dealer, not just any Carrier dealer. You also need to request service within 45 days of the failure for the labor portion to apply.7Carrier Corporation. Carrier Consumer Choice Limited Warranty Waiting longer, or calling a non-participating contractor, means you pay the labor even when the part is still covered.

If You Sell or Buy a Home With Carrier Equipment

The extended warranty does not follow the equipment to a new owner. Subsequent owners receive a five-year parts-only warranty from the original installation date, regardless of how the first owner registered the system.3Carrier Residential. Carrier Warranty Lookup There is no transfer process, no notification requirement, and no transfer fee; the subsequent-owner coverage applies automatically. For non-residential installations, the warranty is limited to the original owner and does not extend to subsequent owners at all.1Carrier Corporation. Carrier Corporation Limited Warranty for Air Conditioner and Heat Pump Condensing Units with Puron Advance

The practical impact is significant. A system installed three years ago that originally had ten-year coverage leaves a second owner with just two years remaining. Ask for the installation date and the original warranty registration confirmation during the home-buying process so you know what you have.
