Chevrolet does not put a 100,000-mile warranty on most of its new vehicles as standard coverage. The standard powertrain warranty runs 5 years or 60,000 miles, and the bumper-to-bumper warranty runs 3 years or 36,000 miles.1Chevrolet. Owners Warranty That said, the 100,000-mile figure does appear in several specific places: diesel and TurboMax powertrains, electric vehicle batteries, rust-through corrosion, qualifying fleet vehicles, and Certified Pre-Owned powertrains all reach that mark, and Chevrolet’s optional extended service plan can be bought up to that mileage as well.
The Standard Warranty You Get on a New Chevy
Every new Chevrolet comes with a bundle of factory warranties that begin on the delivery date. For 2025 and 2026 models, the numbers to know are:
- Bumper-to-bumper: 3 years or 36,000 miles.1Chevrolet. Owners Warranty
- Powertrain: 5 years or 60,000 miles on most models.1Chevrolet. Owners Warranty
- Seatbelts and airbags: 6 years or 72,000 miles.2GM. 2026 Chevrolet Limited Warranty Manual
- Rust-through corrosion: 6 years or 100,000 miles.2GM. 2026 Chevrolet Limited Warranty Manual
- Roadside assistance: 5 years or 60,000 miles, extended to 8 years or 100,000 miles for EV towing.3Chevrolet. Roadside Assistance
If you drive a typical gas-engine Silverado, Trailblazer, Equinox, Malibu, or Traverse, the powertrain protection you get from the factory tops out at 60,000 miles. To reach 100,000 you need to fit one of the categories below or buy additional coverage.
Which Chevrolets Actually Get 100,000-Mile Powertrain Coverage
Diesel and TurboMax Engines
Silverado trucks with the 3.0L or 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engines have long carried a 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.4GM. 2022 Chevrolet Limited Warranty Manual Beginning with the 2024 model year, GM extended the same coverage to the Silverado 1500’s 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, sold under the TurboMax name. A Chevrolet spokesperson confirmed at launch that the extended coverage was exclusive to the 2024 Silverado 1500 TurboMax.5Kelley Blue Book. Chevy Silverado TurboMax Engine Gets Longer Warranty The 2025 and 2026 warranty manuals continue listing both TurboMax and Duramax engines for the longer coverage.2GM. 2026 Chevrolet Limited Warranty Manual
Electric and Hybrid Batteries
Every Chevrolet EV — Bolt EV, Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Silverado EV — comes with an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty on the high-voltage propulsion battery and certain electric propulsion components.7Chevrolet. Electric Ownership Hybrids get the same 8-year/100,000-mile coverage on the hybrid propulsion battery.2GM. 2026 Chevrolet Limited Warranty Manual
The EV coverage does more than address outright defects. If the battery’s capacity falls below 75% of its original value during the warranty period, Chevrolet will repair or replace it. Occasional use for backup home power, selling energy back to the grid, or vehicle-to-vehicle charging is treated as normal use; using the battery as a semi-permanent daily power supply is not covered.8GM. 2025 Chevrolet Electric Vehicle Warranty Manual California and states that follow its emissions rules require a longer minimum EV battery warranty of 10 years or 150,000 miles for certain vehicle categories; the federal floor sits at 8 years or 100,000 miles, matching Chevrolet’s standard offering.9California Bureau of Automotive Repair. Rust-Through Corrosion
The sheet-metal rust-through warranty runs 6 years or 100,000 miles on all new Chevrolets.2GM. 2026 Chevrolet Limited Warranty Manual This is separate from surface corrosion, which is only covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles, and it applies only when a body panel has actually rusted through from the inside out.
Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles
Buying used through Chevrolet’s Certified Pre-Owned program is one of the most direct ways to get 100,000-mile coverage. A CPO Chevrolet comes with a 6-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty measured from the original in-service date, with a $0 deductible, plus a 12-month/12,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty on top of any factory coverage that remains.10Schumacher Chevrolet. Chevrolet CPO Program To qualify as CPO, a vehicle must be less than six model years old with no more than 75,000 miles and must pass a 172-point inspection. The coverage transfers to later owners and includes two complimentary scheduled maintenance visits within 2 years or 24,000 miles, plus 24/7 roadside assistance for 6 years or 100,000 miles.11Carfax. Qualifying Fleet and Government Vehicles
Commercial and government fleet customers get a 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty on 2021 and newer Chevrolet and GMC vehicles purchased under a qualifying Fleet Account Number.12GM Fleet. Fleet Warranty Resources Businesses generally qualify by owning or leasing at least five new vehicles bought in the last 12 months, five medium-duty trucks, or fifteen total vehicles used for business. Government entities qualify with a single vehicle.13GM Fleet. Qualified Fleet User Enrollment Form Retail customers, rental companies, and dealerships are explicitly excluded, so an individual buyer cannot access this warranty.14GM Fleet. Buying Coverage Up to 100,000 Miles
If your Chevy doesn’t fall into one of the categories above and you want protection past the 60,000-mile powertrain limit, the factory-backed option is the Chevrolet Protection Plan. It’s a vehicle service contract from General Motors that can be purchased at the time of sale or any time up to 8 years or 100,000 miles from the original purchase.15Chevrolet. Protection Plans It comes in three tiers:
- Powertrain covers the engine, transmission, drive axle, and hybrid or electric components.
- Silver adds suspension, climate control, electrical systems, steering, and brakes.
- Platinum is the broadest tier, covering up to 1,500 components including high-tech, audio, and navigation systems.16Chevrolet. Chevrolet Protection Plan Details
Silver and Platinum plans can extend up to 96 months or 100,000 miles; Powertrain plans can reach 96 months or 120,000 miles.16Chevrolet. Chevrolet Protection Plan Details Deductible options are $0, $100, or $250. Every plan includes roadside assistance, rental coverage of up to $40 per day, and trip interruption benefits. Plans transfer for a $50 fee and can be canceled at any time, with a full refund available within 30 days if no claims have been filed.15Chevrolet. Protection Plans
Some individual Chevrolet dealers advertise their own “lifetime powertrain warranty” at no extra cost on vehicles bought from their lot. These are dealer programs, not GM factory coverage. They are typically non-transferable and require you to follow the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule to the letter, so read the terms before treating one as equivalent to a factory warranty.
How Chevrolet’s Numbers Compare
Chevrolet’s warranty is average for the industry. The 3-year/36,000-mile basic and 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain combination matches most non-luxury domestic and import brands. The brands that offer 100,000 miles of powertrain protection across the board are Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, and Mitsubishi, each with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty on top of a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty.17Car and Driver. Cars Best Warranty Coverage If reaching 100,000 miles of factory powertrain coverage without buying a diesel, a fleet vehicle, or a CPO model is the priority, Chevrolet won’t get you there.
What Can End Coverage Before You Reach 100,000 Miles
Chevrolet can deny a claim if the damage was caused by insufficient or improper maintenance, misuse such as racing or overloading, use of incorrect fuel or fluids, an aftermarket modification that caused the failure, or environmental damage like flooding. Vehicles with salvage, scrap, or junk titles, or with disconnected or altered odometers, lose their warranty coverage entirely.18GM. 2025 Chevrolet Limited Warranty Manual
A newer condition for 2025 and 2026 model years: owners must install over-the-air software updates within 45 days of availability. Damage that results from failing to install an update isn’t covered.19Car and Driver. Over-the-Air Software Update Problem GM Warranty Details If an update itself causes damage, that damage remains covered for the applicable warranty period.2GM. 2026 Chevrolet Limited Warranty Manual GM has described the 45-day window as standard practice to encourage timely updates, though the policy has drawn criticism from owners concerned about updates that fail or brick their vehicles.20Motor1. GM OTA Software Update Warranty
On aftermarket parts, Chevrolet’s warranty manuals name non-GM parts and modifications as possible grounds for denial. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, however, a manufacturer can only deny a claim if it can show the aftermarket part actually caused the defect. Installing an aftermarket part does not by itself void the warranty.21Auto Care Association.
