Hyundai does cover oil changes on new 2020 through 2025 model-year vehicles through its Complimentary Maintenance program, which pays for oil and filter changes, tire rotations, and multi-point inspections for the first three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.1Hyundai USA. Complimentary Maintenance The vehicle has to have been purchased or leased new on or after February 1, 2020. The program is being eliminated for 2026 and newer models.
What a Complimentary Visit Includes
Each covered service is an oil and oil filter change, a tire rotation, and a multi-point inspection, performed with Hyundai-approved filters and Quaker State oil.2Hyundai Owners. Learn More About Hyundai Complimentary Maintenance Wear items such as cabin air filters, wiper blades, and brake pads are not included, and anything that falls under Hyundai’s “severe” driving schedule (for example, frequent short trips under ten miles) is excluded as well.3Hyundai USA. How Many Oil Changes You Actually Get
The answer depends on your model year, and the difference matters.
For 2020 through 2024 vehicles, every normal factory-scheduled maintenance visit within the three-year or 36,000-mile window is covered.4Hyundai USA. Complimentary Maintenance Most Hyundai models call for service every 7,500 miles under normal driving, which works out to roughly four or five covered oil changes before the benefit expires.5Tim Moran Hyundai. How Often Should You Change Your Oil in Your Hyundai Each service has to be redeemed within 1,000 miles or one month of its scheduled interval to count. Missing a window does not forfeit later visits: skip the 7,500-mile service and the 15,000-mile service is still there.1Hyundai USA. Complimentary Maintenance
For 2025 vehicles, Hyundai capped the benefit at four basic maintenance services total.1Hyundai USA. Complimentary Maintenance Each visit still includes the oil change, tire rotation, and inspection, and once you have used the four, any remaining time or mileage on the three-year/36,000-mile clock no longer matters. The tradeoff: 2025 owners can use those four services at their discretion within the window rather than being locked to specific intervals.3Hyundai USA. HCM Customer FAQs
2026 and Later: No Free Oil Changes
Effective March 27, 2025, Hyundai discontinued Complimentary Maintenance for all 2026 model-year vehicles and beyond. Hyundai said the program’s cost had “grew to unsupportable levels.” Owners of 2020 through 2025 vehicles keep the coverage they were originally promised. For 2026 and newer buyers, Hyundai plans to offer pre-paid maintenance plans that can be purchased after the point of sale.6Car and Driver. Hyundai Cutting Free Maintenance Plans
Who Qualifies
Only the original owner or first retail lessee of a qualifying new Hyundai is eligible. Certified Pre-Owned, used, fleet, and commercial vehicles are excluded.3Hyundai USA. HCM Customer FAQs The benefit does not transfer if you sell the car. The only exception is a transfer between spouses.
Electric and fuel-cell vehicles are enrolled in the program but do not receive oil changes, because those powertrains don’t use engine oil. EV and FCEV owners instead get tire rotations, multi-point inspections, and a coolant stacking service.1Hyundai USA. Complimentary Maintenance
Where the Service Has to Happen
Covered oil changes have to be performed at an authorized Hyundai dealership by Hyundai-trained technicians. Work done at an independent shop is not eligible, and Hyundai does not reimburse owners who pay out of pocket elsewhere.3Hyundai USA. HCM Customer FAQs You schedule the appointment with the dealer and pay nothing at the counter for covered services.
Can You Use an Outside Shop Without Voiding the Warranty?
Yes. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer cannot require you to use a specific dealership or brand-name parts for routine maintenance as a condition of warranty coverage, unless those parts or services are provided free of charge.7Auto Care Association. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act The FTC has reinforced that dealers cannot deny warranty coverage just because routine maintenance was done by an independent shop or because aftermarket parts were used.8Federal Trade Commission. The practical catch is that the work has to match the owner’s manual. If the manual calls for 5W-20 and a different viscosity is used, Hyundai may not be on the hook for resulting engine damage.9Giambalvo Hyundai.
