To apply for a Fiji passport, you must be a Fiji citizen, complete an online pre-enrollment with the Immigration Department, and then attend an Immigration office in Fiji or a Fiji High Commission or Embassy abroad to submit your documents and give your biometrics. Standard processing takes 15 working days and costs FJD $206.50 for an ordinary passport; urgent processing in three working days costs FJD $283.85.1Fiji Immigration Department. The ordinary passport, a blue booklet valid for ten years, is what almost everyone needs. Official and diplomatic passports are reserved for members of the disciplined forces and senior government figures traveling on state business, and an emergency passport is a separate limited-validity document for urgent situations.2Ministry of Immigration – Fiji. Fiji Passports The rest of this guide covers the ordinary passport.
Who Can Apply
Only Fiji citizens can receive a Fiji passport. Citizenship can come through birth, registration, or naturalization, and any citizen who meets the document requirements qualifies regardless of age.2Ministry of Immigration – Fiji. Fiji Passports
Fiji allows dual citizenship under Part 5 of the Citizenship of Fiji Act 2009, so holding another country’s passport does not disqualify you.3Laws of Fiji. Citizenship of Fiji Act 2009 Dual citizens need to bring their citizenship certificate with the standard documents.
If you previously renounced Fiji citizenship, you cannot apply for a passport until you resume it under section 8(6) of the Citizenship Decree 2009. Resumption costs FJD $1,500 in total: a $1,230 application fee, $135 for the Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance, and $135 for the grant of certificate.1Fiji Immigration Department. Your passport will be issued using the names on your birth certificate. For a married woman using her husband’s surname, the passport combines the given names from the birth certificate with the married surname from the marriage certificate.
Photo Specifications
Photos that miss the standards are rejected on the spot.7Ministry of Immigration – Fiji. Guidelines for Passport Photographs Requirements:
- Size 3.5 cm wide by 4.5 cm tall.
- Face from forehead to chin covering 70 to 80 percent of the photo height.

Applications for Children
A child under 18 needs the standard documents plus certified copies of both parents’ passports or birth certificates to prove parentage, a completed parental consent form, and, if adopted, a certified copy of the final court adoption order. If a third party will accompany the child, the parents or legal guardian must supply a written authorization letter.6Ministry of Foreign Affairs. MOI Updated Passport Requirements
Children under 12 are exempt from biometric enrollment. The application can go in with photos and documents alone, without the child appearing for fingerprints or facial scanning.4Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Passport Booking
How the Application Works
The e-Passport process has two stages: pre-enrollment online, then in-person biometric capture. All passports are produced in Suva, so applications lodged anywhere in the world are sent there for final processing and issuance.2Ministry of Immigration – Fiji. Fiji Passports
Step 1: Pre-Enrollment
Complete the online pre-enrollment through the Immigration Department’s portal. This records your basic details and opens your file in the system.2Ministry of Immigration – Fiji. Fiji Passports
Step 2: Biometric Enrollment
Everyone aged 12 and above must appear in person at an Immigration office in Fiji or at a Fiji High Commission or Embassy overseas. Staff will take your fingerprints and facial scan, verify your original documents, and accept payment. You receive a confirmation receipt for tracking.
Citizens overseas who cannot reach a Fiji mission can request a biometric waiver. The form is available from the Immigration Department, and completed forms with all supporting documents are emailed directly to the Passport Division.2Ministry of Immigration – Fiji. Who Can Witness Your Application
Your application form and any statutory declarations have to be witnessed by an approved person. The list includes Members of Parliament, magistrates, barristers, solicitors, notary publics, Justices of the Peace, bank officers, ministers of religion, medical or dental practitioners, school teachers, and education officers, among others. Family members cannot serve as witnesses under any circumstances.9Ministry of Immigration – Fiji. Passport Approved Witness
How to Pay
Since January 2024, Fiji Immigration offices no longer take cash or cheques. Domestic offices accept only EFTPOS and M-Paisa.10Ministry of Immigration – Fiji. Cashless Transaction Overseas missions may accept different methods, and some require money orders or cashier’s checks, so confirm with your High Commission or Embassy before the appointment.

Renewing Your Passport
Renewal uses the same steps as a first-time application: online pre-enrollment, biometric capture, and document submission. The one addition is surrendering your old passport book. Start at least six months before expiry. Many countries refuse entry if your passport expires within six months of arrival, so late renewal can strand you.
The document list matches a new application: birth certificate, valid photo ID, passport photos, and, if you hold another citizenship, your citizenship certificate.6Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If Your Passport Is Lost, Stolen, or Damaged
Replacing a valid passport is expensive and adds steps. File a police report first, then prepare a statutory declaration explaining when, where, and how the passport was lost or damaged. The declaration must be signed and stamped by a Justice of the Peace.11Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Stolen or Lost Passport Replacement Checklist A family member cannot witness it.
Submit the police report and statutory declaration with the standard application documents. If the lost passport was still valid, the replacement fee is FJD $412.90 for standard processing or $536.75 urgent, roughly double the normal cost.1Fiji Immigration Department. New Immigration Services Fees If the lost passport had already expired, you pay the standard new-passport fee instead.2Ministry of Immigration – Fiji. Fiji Passports
Emergency Travel Without a Passport
If you are overseas, your passport is expired or gone, and you need to get to Fiji urgently, a Certificate of Identity may be faster than a full passport. It is a single-purpose travel document valid for one year from issue. It cannot be renewed, and Immigration will issue only one to the same person.12Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Certificate of Identity
You will need a completed application form, three recent passport-size photographs (one witnessed by a notary public), your original birth certificate, a letter explaining the emergency, and, if the passport was stolen, a police report and statutory declaration. The fee inside Fiji is FJD $144.55.1Fiji Immigration Department.
