A Separate Track for Meat Processing Workers

Consumers can’t file in Brown v. JBS USA Food Company, but it is worth knowing about if you work in the industry. As of October 2025, the court granted preliminary approval to settlements totaling $202.7 million with a dozen defendants including Tyson, Cargill, JBS, National Beef, Hormel, and Perdue. Also worth noting: the data-analytics firm Agri Stats is at the center of the chicken, pork, and turkey cases. Proposed federal and private settlements would restrict the reports Agri Stats can distribute to processors, but those deals are about future conduct and don’t put money in consumers’ pockets.26National Association of Attorneys General. What to Expect and How to File Safely

Payment amounts in these cases are hard to predict. Funds are divided pro rata among valid claimants, so the more people who file, the smaller each check. In the beef consumer settlement, for example, the $87.5 million is split among everyone who submits a valid claim. USA Today has reported that settlement administrators typically caution that dollar figures should be treated as “ballpark ranges rather than guarantees,” since final payouts hinge on claim volume and documentation quality.27USA Today. Open Settlement Claims

Most of these consumer settlements don’t require proof of purchase, though receipts or loyalty-card records can strengthen a claim and, in some cases, raise the payment cap. File directly through each case’s official settlement website rather than through a third-party recovery service. If you already filed in a case that has since added new defendants — the broiler chicken litigation is the clearest example — you generally don’t need to file again to share in the later distributions.
