Pooh Shiesty’s release date from federal prison was October 7, 2025. The Memphis rapper, whose legal name is Lontrell Donell Williams Jr., walked out after serving roughly three and a half years of a 63-month sentence on a firearms conspiracy conviction. He is not fully free: a three-year term of supervised release began the day he left custody and runs until approximately October 2028.
Why He Got Out Before the Full 63 Months
Williams was sentenced on April 20, 2022, by U.S. District Judge K. Michael Moore to 63 months in federal prison after pleading guilty in January 2022 to conspiring to possess firearms in furtherance of crimes of violence and drug trafficking.1U.S. Department of Justice. Rapper Pooh Shiesty Pleads Guilty to Federal Conspiracy Charge A 63-month federal sentence rarely means 63 months behind bars, and his release came about 26 months earlier than the paper number suggests. Three separate credits closed that gap.
Credit for Time Already Served
Williams was held in federal detention for roughly a year before his April 2022 sentencing. That pretrial time counted toward the 63 months, taking about 12 months off the back end before he ever stepped into a Bureau of Prisons facility to begin serving.
Good Conduct Time
Federal inmates serving sentences longer than one year can earn up to 54 days off per year of the sentence imposed, provided they comply with prison rules.2Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 18 U.S. Code 3624 – Release of a Prisoner On a 63-month sentence, that adds up to roughly nine months. Applied to Williams’ term, good conduct time brought his projected release date down to around April 2026.
First Step Act Earned Time Credits
The First Step Act, passed in 2018, lets eligible inmates earn additional time off by participating in programs aimed at reducing recidivism. Participants earn 10 days of credit for every 30 days of successful programming, and those classified as minimum or low risk earn an extra five days per 30-day period, for up to 15 days per month.3eCFR. Subpart E – First Step Act Time Credits Reporting at the time of his release attributed the final six-month acceleration, from an April 2026 projection to the October 2025 walk-out, to FSA credits stacked on top of good conduct time and time served.
There is no federal parole in play here. Parole was eliminated for federal crimes committed after November 1, 1987, and replaced with supervised release after prison.4Department of Justice. Organization, Mission and Functions Manual – United States Parole Commission
Where He Was Held
Court records indicated Williams was held at USP Canaan in Pennsylvania at the time of his release, after earlier serving portions of his sentence at USP Pollock in Louisiana. What Supervised Release Means for Him Now
Leaving prison did not end federal oversight. Supervised release is a strict form of monitoring administered by a federal probation officer. Standard conditions require regular reporting, drug testing within 15 days of release and periodically afterward, and staying within the assigned judicial district unless the probation officer approves travel. Any international trip, or any trip out of district lasting more than 30 days, requires advance approval.
Violations carry real prison exposure. A federal judge can revoke supervised release and send the person back to custody for up to the remaining length of supervision, and in some cases longer depending on the original offense. Williams’ three-year term runs to roughly October 2028.
The January 2026 Arrest Report
Reports surfaced in early January 2026 that Williams was arrested in Dallas in connection with a possible supervised release violation. Full details of that situation had not been confirmed through court records at the time of this writing. If a violation is established, it could trigger revocation proceedings and send him back to federal prison for some portion of the remaining supervision period.
