How Much Is a UK Passport? 2026 Fees and Fast Track Costs

A standard UK adult passport costs £94.50 if you apply online or £107 by paper form, and a child passport costs £61.50 online or £74 by paper. Those figures hold until 7 April 2026. On 8 April 2026, every category goes up. Frequent traveller passports, expedited services, and overseas applications all cost more, and a few add-ons can push the real total higher than the headline fee.

Current Passport Fees Until 7 April 2026

The fee depends on the applicant’s age, whether you apply online or on paper, and whether you want the standard 34-page passport or the 54-page frequent traveller version. Applying online is always cheaper, and gov.uk is what HM Passport Office steers most applicants toward.1GOV.UK. Passport Fees

Urgent Passport Services

Standard applications take about three weeks.3GOV.UK. About Our Services – HM Passport Office If you need one sooner, HM Passport Office runs two faster services, both requiring an in-person appointment.

One-Day Premium Service

You book online, attend an appointment at a passport office (the earliest slot is two days after you apply), and collect your new passport four hours later. It costs £222 for a standard adult passport or £235 for the 54-page frequent traveller version. From 8 April 2026, the premium fee rises to £239.50.4GOV.UK. Get a Passport Urgently2GOV.UK. One restriction matters. The premium service can only be used to renew an adult passport. First-time adult applications, child passports, and replacements for lost or stolen passports are not eligible.4GOV.UK. Get a Passport Urgently

One-Week Fast Track Service

The fast track service delivers your new passport by courier one week after your appointment, and it covers renewals, replacements, name or detail changes, and first child passports.4GOV.UK. Get a Passport Urgently

Costs Beyond the Application Fee

The fee itself is rarely the only expense.

Passport Photos

Your photo needs to meet specific requirements: clear, in colour, taken against a plain light-coloured background, with a neutral expression and eyes open. Digital photos must be at least 600 pixels wide by 750 pixels tall and between 50KB and 10MB. Printed photos must measure 45mm high by 35mm wide.7GOV.UK. Get a Passport Photo8GOV.UK. A compliant smartphone photo is free if you apply online. Photo booths and high-street shops typically charge a few pounds for a set of prints.

Post Office Check and Send

The Post Office’s Digital Check and Send service costs £16 on top of the passport fee. Staff review your application for errors, take your photo, and handle delivery to HM Passport Office. For a standard adult passport, the combined cost comes to £110.50 at pre-April 2026 fees. It doesn’t speed up processing, but it reduces the chance of a rejection bouncing back to you.

Postage

Paper applicants should use tracked or signed-for delivery, which adds a few pounds. Online applicants occasionally need to post supporting documents separately as well.

Refunds Are Limited

Treat the fee as non-refundable. HM Passport Office is only legally required to refund a payment they shouldn’t have taken, such as charging someone entitled to a free passport. Fees for applications refused on eligibility grounds or voluntarily withdrawn are not refunded.5GOV.UK. Passport Fees – Caseworker Guidance

Narrow exceptions exist. If you withdraw on compassionate grounds with evidence, or can’t attend an identity interview because of hospitalisation or short-term incapacity, you can request a refund. In rare cases involving police custody, a discretionary refund may be considered.5GOV.UK. Passport Fees – Caseworker Guidance Make sure your application is complete before you pay.
