How you cancel a 24 Hour Fitness membership depends on the plan you signed. Month-to-month members can cancel online in a few minutes. Members on a term contract or a prepaid plan can’t use the online portal and have to cancel in person, through the contact form, or by certified mail, and may owe an early termination fee on top of any unpaid dues.
Find Out Which Membership You Have
Your original membership agreement tells you whether you’re month-to-month or on a term (usually 12-month) contract. If you can’t find it, log into your account at 24hourfitness.com or ask the front desk at your home club. Have your membership ID ready before you start. It’s on the agreement, and you can also pull up your account with your 10-digit check-in code.124GO Support. What is my 10 Digit Check-in Code
The plan type controls two things: the method you’re allowed to use, and whether you owe a termination fee.

Canceling a Term or Prepaid Membership
Members on limited-term or prepaid plans can’t use the online cancellation portal. 24 Hour Fitness directs those members to visit a club and speak with a team member, or to use the online contact form.324 Hour Fitness. Cancel Membership Options If you cancel in person, ask for a printed or signed receipt showing the date. That receipt matters if there’s a later dispute over when you canceled.
You can also send a written cancellation request by certified mail with return receipt to:

Certified mail gives you the strongest paper trail. The return receipt carries a postal delivery date that’s hard to dispute. Include your full name, membership ID, home club, and a clear statement that you’re canceling.
Fees You Might Owe
If you’re locked into a 12-month or longer term contract and want out before it expires, expect an early termination fee. The amount varies by location, contract type, and enrollment date; members commonly report fees in the $100 to $200 range, plus a prorated portion of the annual fee. Your agreement lists the exact figure. Month-to-month members don’t pay an early termination fee, so confirm your plan type before assuming you owe anything.
Separate from monthly dues, 24 Hour Fitness charges a $69.99 annual fee. The first one hits 15 days after you enroll and recurs yearly.524 Hour Fitness. Medical, Military, and Relocation Exceptions
24 Hour Fitness allows members to freeze or cancel early for qualifying life circumstances: medical disability, military deployment, a temporary employment transfer, or an extended volunteer assignment. For a relocation-related freeze, you have to be moving more than 25 miles from the nearest 24 Hour Fitness location, verified by a letter from your employer on company letterhead.624 Hour Fitness. Membership Policies and Club Rules
A medical cancellation requires a signed letter from your doctor stating that a physical disability prevents you from using the gym. The letter should be on official letterhead and include the physician’s contact information. Submit it in person at your home club or by certified mail to the P.O. Box address above. These exceptions can waive or reduce an early termination fee, though the details depend on your contract.
Freezing Instead of Canceling
If your situation is temporary, a freeze can be a better move than a cancellation, especially on a term contract where leaving early triggers a fee. During a freeze, 24 Hour Fitness stops collecting monthly dues and suspends your gym access. A standard extended freeze lasts up to 12 months; if you don’t reactivate or extend before that window closes, the company may terminate the membership.624 Hour Fitness. If You Just Signed Up
Most states give new gym members a cooling-off window of three to five business days to cancel a contract for any reason and get a full refund. The exact window depends on your state. Check the cancellation-window language in your agreement, or contact your state attorney general’s office for the rule where you live.

If Charges Keep Coming After You Cancel
This is the common failure point. You cancel, you get a confirmation, and then another charge shows up a month or two later.
Contact 24 Hour Fitness first with your cancellation confirmation in hand. Reference the date, the confirmation number or email, and the method you used. If they don’t fix it quickly, dispute the charge with your bank or credit card company. Give them the cancellation receipt, the certified mail tracking number, or a screenshot of the online confirmation. Without that proof, the gym can claim it never got your request. A certified return receipt or a timestamped email puts the burden back on them.
