To cancel a Dext subscription, go to Business Settings in your Dext account, open Subscription, then Billing Details, and select Cancel Subscription under Payment Details — but only if you subscribed directly through Dext’s website. If you signed up through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, you have to cancel through that store instead. If an accounting firm manages your Dext account, you cancel by asking the firm to disconnect you. Two deadlines matter before you start: annual plans require at least 30 days’ notice before renewal, and Dext may permanently delete your data as soon as 10 days after the subscription ends.
Check Your Role and Which Product You’re Paying For
Only a Business Admin can cancel. User Admins and standard users won’t see subscription controls at all.1Dext. Roles and Permissions in Dext If the Subscription section is missing from your Business Settings, either your role doesn’t allow it or a partner firm handles the billing.
Also confirm which Dext product you’re canceling. Dext Bookkeeping (formerly Dext Prepare) and Dext Precision bill separately, and canceling one does not cancel the other. Your Subscription dashboard shows what you’re paying for and the next renewal date. Write that date down.
Canceling a Direct Web Subscription

- Open Business Settings.
- Select Subscription.
- Open Billing Details.
- Under Payment Details, select Cancel Subscription.
- Confirm when prompted.
Your subscription remains active until the end of the period you’ve already paid for, with full feature access until that date. Dext emails a confirmation to the address on the account. Keep it. If a charge appears after your cancellation date, that email is what you’ll show your bank.
Canceling Through the Apple or Google App Store
If you originally subscribed through a mobile app store, the Cancel button inside Dext won’t help you. Apple or Google holds the billing relationship, so you cancel through the store.2Dext Help Centre. How to Cancel Your Dext Account
On iPhone or iPad
Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Tap Dext and tap Cancel Subscription. If there’s no Cancel button or you see a red expiration message, the subscription is already canceled.3Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
On Android
Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, then Payments & Subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Tap Dext and select Cancel. Complete it before the next renewal date or you’ll be billed for another cycle.
One warning. Deleting the Dext app from your phone does not cancel the subscription. The charges continue until you cancel through the store’s subscription settings.
If an Accountant Manages Your Dext Account
Many businesses use Dext through a bookkeeper or accounting firm that pays the bill. When that’s the case, your dashboard won’t show a cancel button, because the billing contract is between the firm and Dext.
Contact the firm and ask them to remove you from their practice. They have three options:4Dext Help Centre. How to Remove, Deactivate, or Delete a Client in Dext
- Disconnect removes you from the firm’s practice account while leaving your Dext account and data intact. You can then start your own subscription or connect a different accountant.
- Deactivate suspends your Dext services while the firm keeps access. It’s a pause, not a cancellation, and the firm cannot reactivate the account for four months.
- Delete permanently removes the account and all data. It only works when no users exist on the client account, and it can’t be undone.
If you want to preserve your records but stop paying through the firm, ask specifically for a disconnect. Once that’s done, an admin on your side can invite a new accountant or set up a standalone subscription.
The 30-Day Rule for Annual Plans
Annual subscribers have to cancel at least 30 days before the renewal date. Miss that window and the cancel button disappears from the account entirely. You can no longer process the cancellation yourself.2Dext Help Centre. How to Cancel Your Dext Account The 30-day notice is written into Dext’s General Terms and Conditions for annual plans.5Dext. If you’re already inside that 30-day window and the button is gone, email support@dext.com with your account details and explain the situation. There’s no guarantee Dext will override the terms, but a prompt written request creates a record.
Monthly subscribers aren’t subject to the same lockout. The documentation and terms tie the 30-day requirement specifically to annual plans, so monthly cancellations go through the usual dashboard flow.
Export Your Data Before You Cancel
Dext’s terms give you only 10 days after termination to request your data back. After that, the account and its contents may be permanently deleted without further notice.5Dext. Dext General Terms and Conditions Don’t plan on quietly downloading files for months after cancellation.
In the Costs or Sales section of your Inbox or Archive, select the items you want, open Tools, and choose Export. Export All grabs everything. Three formats are available:6Dext Help Centre. Editing, Publishing, and Exporting Items
- CSV for transaction data in a spreadsheet, in default or custom layouts, compatible with most accounting software.
- PDF for document images, capped at 250 items per export.
- ZIP for large batches, which includes original file formats and is the most efficient for a full download.
If your account is connected to Xero or QuickBooks Online, go to Business Settings, then Connections, and choose whether to disconnect the integration while keeping data in Dext or disconnect and delete the synced data.7Dext Help Centre. What Access Looks Like After Cancellation
When the paid period ends, active features like document extraction and receipt processing stop. You can still log in and download data during the post-cancellation window.2Dext Help Centre. How to Cancel Your Dext Account That window is short: Dext reserves the right to delete the account and its data after 10 days under the General Terms.5Dext. Dext General Terms and Conditions
Changed your mind? Reactivation is available while the account is in its expired or canceled state. Purchasing a new plan restores full access and your data.8Dext Help Centre. Asking Dext to Permanently Delete Your Data
Canceling does not automatically erase personal data from Dext’s servers. Under Dext’s Data Processor Agreement, after termination the default instruction is for Dext to delete your personal data, and you have 10 days from the end date to send a revised instruction asking for it to be returned to you instead.9Dext. When the Cancel Button Won’t Cooperate
If the cancel option is missing, grayed out, or returning errors, email support@dext.com.10Dext. Contact Us Include the account email, the product you’re trying to cancel, and a screenshot of your Subscription settings. For cancellation problems specifically, a direct email tends to resolve the issue faster than the Help Centre’s self-service troubleshooting.
