How to Cancel a Free Trial on Prime Video Before Being Charged

To cancel a Prime Video free trial before Amazon charges you, sign in to your Amazon account, open Manage Your Prime Membership, select End Membership, and click through the confirmation screens. The whole thing takes under two minutes. The trial runs 30 days, and if you don’t cancel in time, Amazon automatically bills $14.99 for a month of Prime.1Amazon. Cancel Your Amazon Prime Membership Canceling early doesn’t shorten your access, so there’s no reason to wait if you’ve already decided.

Cancel on the Amazon Website

Sign in with the email tied to the account that started the trial, then:

  • Go to your account and open Manage Your Prime Membership.
  • Select End Your Prime Membership or Cancel My Benefits near the bottom of the page.
  • Click through the retention screens. Amazon will offer discounts, alternative plans, and reminders of what you’re giving up. None of it is required.
  • Confirm on the final screen. It will state clearly that your membership will not renew.

Amazon sends a confirmation email after you finish. Save it. If a charge turns up later, that email is the fastest way to settle a dispute. Double-check which account you’re signed into before you start, especially if your household uses more than one.1Amazon. Cancel Your Amazon Prime Membership

Cancel in the Amazon App

The mobile app sends you through the same flow. Open the Amazon Shopping app, tap the profile icon, go to Account, and find your Prime membership settings. Select the option to end your membership, click past the retention screens, and confirm. The app sometimes hands you off to a mobile browser to finish, which is normal.

One exception: if you signed up for Prime Video through Google Play on an Android device, Amazon can’t cancel it. Open the Google Play Store app, go to Subscriptions, find Prime Video, and cancel there.1Amazon. Cancel Your Amazon Prime Membership

Add-On Channel Trials Are Separate

Canceling Prime does not cancel free trials for add-on channels like Paramount+, Starz, or AMC+. These are billed separately, and each one has to be canceled on its own. The charges can look nearly identical on a bank statement, which is why people get surprised.

To cancel an add-on, go to Manage Your Subscriptions in your Amazon account, find the channel, and select Unsubscribe. If Amazon offers an immediate refund, your access ends right away. Otherwise, the confirmation screen shows an end date and you keep watching until then.2Amazon. Cancel Your Prime Video Add-On Subscription

If you pay for an add-on through Apple, cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date. Apple processes renewals early, and a last-minute cancellation may not stop the charge.2Amazon. Cancel Your Prime Video Add-On Subscription

What Happens After You Cancel

Canceling during the free trial doesn’t cut you off. You keep every Prime benefit, including streaming, through the end of your original 30-day trial. After that date, your account becomes a standard Amazon account with no Prime perks and no charges.3Amazon. Sign Up for the Amazon Prime Free Trial

Changed your mind? Amazon keeps a reactivate option available right up until the trial expires.

If You Were Already Charged

Missing the deadline isn’t necessarily the end of it. A refund is still possible depending on when you notice and whether you’ve used any benefits.

  • Within 3 business days of the charge, Amazon offers a full refund of the membership fee. They may deduct the value of any Prime benefits you used in those three days, such as free shipping on an order.
  • After 3 business days, a full refund is still available, but only if you haven’t made eligible purchases or used Prime benefits since the charge posted.
  • Memberships bought with a gift or promo code are not refundable at all.

The 3-business-day window is the one that matters. If you spot the charge and haven’t touched Prime shipping or other perks, cancel immediately and request the refund through Amazon’s customer service page.4Amazon. Amazon Prime Terms and Conditions

When a Third Party Handles Your Billing

Some Prime memberships come bundled with other services. If you signed up through a mobile carrier, internet provider, or similar promotion, Amazon’s cancellation page won’t do anything. You have to contact that company directly, and any refund follows their policies, not Amazon’s. The same goes for Google Play signups: Google owns that billing relationship, so you cancel in Google’s subscription settings.1Amazon. Your Right to an Easy Cancellation

The FTC finalized the Click-to-Cancel rule in October 2024. It requires companies selling subscriptions to make cancellation as simple as signing up. If you enrolled online, you must be able to cancel online, and companies cannot force you to call a phone number or complete steps that weren’t part of enrollment.5Federal Trade Commission. Amazon’s process is entirely online, which satisfies the rule. The multiple retention screens with discount offers and alternative plans press up against the spirit of it, but you don’t have to engage with any of them. Keep clicking through until you reach the final confirmation page. The retention screens are sales pitches, not required steps.6Federal Trade Commission. The FTC’s Click to Cancel Rule
