To cancel a Grok subscription, go back to wherever you signed up and cancel there: grok.com for SuperGrok, X’s web settings for X Premium bought through a browser, the Apple Settings app for iOS signups, or Google Play for Android signups. Canceling in the wrong place won’t stop the charges. Paid features stay active until the end of the billing cycle you’ve already paid for, and refunds generally aren’t available.
Figure Out Which Subscription You Have
This is the step most people skip, and it causes most of the confusion. Grok access comes through two separate products with separate billing systems.
- SuperGrok is a standalone subscription purchased directly at grok.com. If you created an account on Grok’s website and entered payment there, this is yours.
- X Premium or Premium+ is a subscription to X that bundles Grok as a feature. If you subscribed through x.com or the X mobile app, this is yours.
Canceling X Premium does nothing to a SuperGrok subscription, and canceling SuperGrok does nothing to X Premium. If you aren’t sure which you have, check your bank or credit card statement. Charges from xAI point to SuperGrok. Charges from X, Apple, or Google point to X Premium.
Cancel SuperGrok at Grok.com
If you subscribed through Grok’s website, cancellation happens there too. Go to grok.com, click Settings, then Billing. From that page you can manage or cancel the subscription directly.1xAI Docs. FAQ – Grok Website / Apps If you originally purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play instead of the website, xAI’s FAQ sends you to those platforms rather than handling it in-house.
Look for an on-screen or email confirmation and keep a screenshot. SuperGrok access should remain available through the end of your current billing period.
Cancel X Premium on the Web
If you subscribed to X Premium or Premium+ through x.com in a browser, the cancellation lives inside X’s settings. Click More in the left sidebar, then Settings and Support, then Settings and Privacy. Open the Subscriptions section and choose the option to cancel. X may offer you a discount or alternative plan on the way out, so keep clicking through until you see a final confirmation screen.
Watch for that confirmation specifically. If you close the tab before the final step, the subscription stays active. Once it’s processed, your account settings should show an expiration date instead of a next renewal date.
Cancel Through the Apple App Store
If you subscribed through the X app on an iPhone or iPad, Apple handles the billing and you have to cancel through Apple’s system. The X app itself can’t process the cancellation.2X Help Center. About Subscriptions
Open the Settings app, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find X Premium in the list, tap it, and tap Cancel Subscription. You may need to scroll down to see the cancel button. If you see an expiration message in red text instead, the subscription is already canceled.3Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
Apple’s prices for X Premium tend to run higher than the web prices because Apple takes a cut from in-app purchases. Worth knowing if you plan to resubscribe later through the web.
Cancel Through Google Play
Android subscribers who signed up through the Play Store cancel there. Open the Play Store app, tap your profile icon, then open the Subscriptions section. Select X Premium and tap cancel. Google asks for a reason before processing, but any answer works. Finish the cancellation at least 48 hours before your next renewal date to avoid being charged for another cycle.
There’s an alternative path through your device Settings: tap Google, then your name, then Manage Your Google Account, then Payments and Subscriptions, then Manage Subscriptions.4Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play Both paths reach the same screen.
If You Paid Through PayPal
Some users set up X Premium billing through PayPal, which adds a wrinkle. The subscription may not appear under PayPal’s Automatic Payments. If you can find it there, you can revoke the billing agreement directly. On desktop, go to Account Settings, then Payment Preferences, then Manage Automatic Payments, and select X as the merchant.
If the subscription doesn’t show up in PayPal, cancel through X’s own web settings instead. Revoking PayPal authorization alone may not stop a payment X has already queued, so canceling on both ends is the safer move.
What Happens to Access, Billing, and Refunds
Canceling doesn’t cut you off immediately. Paid features, including Grok access, stay available through the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for. After that date, your account reverts to the free tier.
X’s refund policy is blunt: all subscriptions are non-refundable unless required by law, including when an account is suspended or loses access for another reason.5X Help Center. X Premium FAQ Annual subscribers who cancel partway through the year keep access until the term ends but don’t get a prorated refund for the unused months.
To confirm the cancellation went through, check your account settings for an expiration date. If it still shows a renewal date with an upcoming charge, the cancellation didn’t process and you need to try again.
If Your Account Is Suspended or Locked
This is where cancellation gets genuinely difficult. If your X account is suspended while you have an active Premium subscription, you may not be able to reach the settings needed to cancel. Users in this situation have reported loops where the interface won’t let them get to billing or payment methods, and X’s support channels have often responded with automated messages that don’t address the billing problem.
A few options exist when the normal path is blocked. Contact your bank or credit card company and ask them to block future charges from X or initiate a chargeback on the most recent one. If the subscription was billed through Apple or Google, their subscription management tools can still cancel the recurring payment regardless of your X account status. You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov if the company won’t give you a reasonable way to stop charges.
Deleting Your Data After Cancellation
Canceling stops the billing but doesn’t delete your data. xAI retains conversation history and other user data for business and legal purposes. Removing your Grok chat history and personal data takes a separate step.
Visit xAI’s Privacy Portal at accounts.x.ai/privacy, select “Delete my xAI data,” and click Continue to submit a formal deletion request.6xAI Accounts. Privacy Request Data already used to train AI models before your request won’t be retroactively pulled out of the trained models, though it can be removed from xAI’s active databases.
To stop X from sharing your posts and activity with Grok going forward, open Settings and Privacy on x.com, then Privacy and Safety, and find the Grok or Third-Party Collaborators section. Turn the toggle off. That setting only affects future data collection, so if you want a clean break, submit the deletion request through the privacy portal as well.
