How to Cancel a LeafFilter Contract: Three-Day Right and Options After

To cancel a LeafFilter contract, you have an unconditional federal right to walk away within three business days of signing by mailing a written cancellation notice — after that window, cancellation gets harder and depends on your contract terms, LeafFilter’s conduct, and any third-party financing attached to the job.

Your Three Business Days to Cancel for Any Reason

LeafFilter sells at your home, which puts the transaction under the FTC’s Cooling-Off Rule. You have until midnight of the third business day after signing to cancel, and you don’t need a reason.1eCFR. 16 CFR Part 429 – Rule Concerning Cooling-Off Period for Sales Made at Homes or at Certain Other Locations

Business days include Saturdays but exclude Sundays and federal holidays. Sign on a Friday and your deadline is midnight the following Tuesday. Sign on a Monday in a normal week and the deadline is midnight Thursday.1eCFR. 16 CFR Part 429 – Rule Concerning Cooling-Off Period for Sales Made at Homes or at Certain Other Locations

The rule exists because in-home sales create pressure a showroom visit doesn’t. It applies whether you invited the salesperson over or they knocked on your door.

How to Write and Send the Cancellation Notice

At signing, LeafFilter is required to hand you two copies of a Notice of Cancellation form. The form is short: transaction date, seller’s name and address, and a line for your signature and cancellation date. You don’t have to explain anything.2eCFR. 16 CFR 429.1 – The Rule

Lost the form or never got one? Write your own letter. Any signed, dated written notice works.3Federal Trade Commission. Buyer’s Remorse: The FTC’s Cooling-Off Rule May Help Include your name, address, the date you signed the contract, and a clear statement that you’re canceling. Add your contract or account number if you can find it. If the salesperson never gave you the required cancellation forms, that’s itself a violation of the rule and can extend your window.

Send It by Certified Mail

Send the notice through USPS Certified Mail with Return Receipt Requested. The postmark date controls, not the date LeafFilter opens the envelope. A notice postmarked on the third business day is timely even if it arrives a week later.3Federal Trade Commission. Buyer’s Remorse: The FTC’s Cooling-Off Rule May Help

Use the cancellation address printed on your contract. If none is listed, mail it to LeafFilter North, LLC, 1595 Georgetown Road, Hudson, OH 44236. Keep the completed form, the certified mail receipt, and the return receipt card once it comes back signed.

The federal rule contemplates mailing or hand delivery. It does not list email. If you want to email a copy for speed, do it alongside the physical mailing, not instead of it.

What LeafFilter Owes You After a Valid Cancellation

Once LeafFilter has your valid notice, the company has 10 business days to refund every payment you’ve made, cancel any promissory note or financing paperwork you signed with the salesperson, and release any security interest tied to the sale.2eCFR. 16 CFR 429.1 – The Rule

If materials were delivered or anything was installed, you have to make those goods available for pickup at your home in roughly the condition you received them. You aren’t required to ship anything yourself. If LeafFilter doesn’t pick up the materials within 20 calendar days after you mailed your cancellation, the goods are yours to keep or discard with no further obligation.2eCFR. 16 CFR 429.1 – The Rule

LeafFilter also has 10 business days to tell you whether it wants to reclaim the goods. Silence works in your favor; the 20-day clock keeps running.2eCFR. 16 CFR 429.1 – The Rule

If the Three Days Have Already Passed

Most people looking for cancellation help are past the federal window. There is no federal right to cancel at that point. What you have instead are three practical routes.

Ask for a Voluntary Cancellation

Call LeafFilter customer service at 800-290-6106. If installation hasn’t started, your position is stronger because the company hasn’t spent on materials or labor. Some homeowners get further by escalating past the first representative. Whatever you agree to, get it in writing before you consider it settled.

Breach or Failure to Perform

If LeafFilter installed the wrong product, damaged your roof or fascia, missed a scheduled installation by a wide margin, or delivered results that don’t match the contract, you may have grounds to terminate for breach. A system that overflows in normal rain after the company promised it wouldn’t is documentable performance failure.

Photograph and video everything, and keep written correspondence. Before you can walk away for breach, you typically need to give the company written notice of the problem and a reasonable chance to fix it. Skip that step and you can end up as the party in breach.

Misrepresentation During the Sales Pitch

If the sales representative quoted a price that doesn’t match the signed paperwork, or promised performance the product can’t deliver, you may have a claim under your state’s consumer protection laws. Verbal promises are hard to prove, which is why writing down what was said, as soon as the visit ends, matters.

Read the Cancellation Fee Clause Carefully

Check the contract for a liquidated damages or cancellation fee provision. These clauses are enforceable only if the amount is a reasonable estimate of the company’s actual losses, not a penalty. A fee that has no relationship to costs the company actually incurred — especially when no work has started — may not hold up.

Stopping the Financing or Credit Card Charge

If a third-party lender financed the installation, canceling the LeafFilter contract does not automatically cancel the loan. Notify the lender in writing that you’ve canceled, and attach a copy of your cancellation notice. Watch the account for pending disbursements, because lenders often release funds on their own schedule.

If you paid by credit card, you have a separate backstop. The CFPB confirms that being charged for goods or services you didn’t receive can qualify as a billing error, and you have 60 days from the statement date to dispute the charge. You have to try to resolve it with LeafFilter first, and the purchase must exceed $50.4Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. When You Want a Warranty Claim, Not a Cancellation

If the installation is already complete and the system isn’t performing, the warranty may be the right path rather than cancellation. LeafFilter offers a limited lifetime warranty that transfers if you sell the home. It covers the core promise: if debris clogs the interior of your gutter and causes overflow, the company will replace the product or refund the material cost.5LeafFilter. The LeafFilter Limited Lifetime Warranty

The exclusions matter, because that’s where most disputes land:

  • Damage to gutters, fascia, or roof surface caused by the installation itself.
  • Any modification or alteration of the product after installation voids the warranty.
  • Damage from structural changes, nearby trees, or acts of nature.
  • Ice dam damage is explicitly disclaimed.
  • Overflow caused by too few downspouts is excluded, even though the installer assessed the system during the initial visit.

To file a claim, notify LeafFilter within a reasonable time after discovering the problem and give a written description. The company can inspect before approving anything.5LeafFilter. The LeafFilter Limited Lifetime Warranty

If LeafFilter Won’t Honor Your Cancellation

If the company ignores your notice, refuses to refund within 10 business days, or otherwise violates the Cooling-Off Rule, file a complaint with the FTC at ftc.gov/complaint. The FTC doesn’t handle individual disputes, but complaints feed enforcement.

More useful in the short term: file with your state attorney general’s consumer protection division. Most accept online complaints and will contact the business on your behalf. A letter from the AG’s office tends to move things faster than another phone call from you. A Better Business Bureau complaint creates a public record and often prompts a quick response.

For smaller amounts, small claims court is realistic. Filing fees typically run $15 to $75, and you don’t need a lawyer. Bring your contract, your cancellation notice, your certified mail receipt, and the signed return receipt. That paper trail is usually enough when a company simply failed to honor a valid cancellation on time.
