To cancel a QR code generator subscription, start by checking your email for the original purchase receipt. That receipt tells you whether you signed up directly on the provider’s website, through the Apple App Store, or through Google Play, and that is the only channel where the cancellation will actually work. Canceling inside the app, or on the provider’s site when Apple or Google is handling the billing, does nothing.
Find Where You Signed Up
Search your inbox for the confirmation message you got when you first subscribed. If the receipt came from Apple, or your card statement shows “APPLE.COM/BILL,” the subscription lives in the App Store. If it came from Google Play, or the statement shows “GOOGLE*,” cancel through the Play Store. If the receipt came from the QR code company itself and points to their own billing portal, you cancel on their website.
Getting this right matters because each channel is sealed off from the others. Deleting the app does not cancel anything. Neither does closing your account on the provider’s site if Apple or Google is the one charging you.
Cancel on the Provider’s Website
Log in and look for a billing, plan, or subscription section inside account settings. The cancellation link is usually there, though some providers bury it a few screens deep. Expect retention prompts: discount offers, downgrade suggestions, feedback surveys. Click through them.
When you reach the final confirmation screen, finish the cancellation and wait for a confirmation email. If nothing arrives within a few hours, log back in and check whether the dashboard still shows a scheduled renewal date. A renewal date that is still there means the cancellation did not go through. Try again, or contact support in writing so you have a record.
Cancel Through the Apple App Store
If you subscribed on an iPhone or iPad, the App Store is the only place the cancellation works. The QR code app itself cannot do it.
- Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions to see every active and expired subscription on your Apple account.
- Select the QR code app from the list.
- Tap Cancel Subscription. You may have to scroll to find the button. A red expiration message means the subscription is already canceled.
Cancel at least 24 hours before the next renewal date. Apple will not refund a charge that has already processed through auto-renewal, so timing is part of the task.1Apple. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
Cancel Through Google Play
On Android, open the Play Store app, tap your profile icon in the top right, then Payments and Subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Select the QR code app and tap Cancel Subscription. You usually keep access to paid features through the end of the current billing period.
Uninstalling the app does nothing to the subscription. This is where most people end up paying for months after they thought they were done.
What Happens to Your QR Codes After You Cancel
Whether your codes keep working depends on which type you created.
Static QR codes carry the destination URL inside the code’s visual pattern. They do not depend on the provider’s servers, so they keep working after cancellation. A static code printed on a business card still scans to your website a year from now.
Dynamic QR codes route through the provider’s server using a short redirect, which is what lets you change the destination later and track scans. When the subscription ends, the provider usually disables that redirect. Scanners then see an error page, a generic landing page, or a suspension notice. If you have dynamic codes on packaging, signs, flyers, or printed materials, deal with this before you cancel.
You cannot convert a dynamic code into a static one. The two have different internal structures, and switching means generating a new code.2QR.io Support. Can I Convert a Dynamic QR Code Into a Static QR Code or Vice Versa? If you need something permanent, generate a new static code pointing to your final URL before you close the account.
Export Your Data First
Most providers cut off analytics and scan history once the paid plan ends. Download anything you want to keep: scan counts, locations, device breakdowns. Look for a CSV or PDF export in the analytics or reporting area. Some providers kill export access the moment you cancel rather than at the end of the billing cycle, so do this step first.
Confirm the Cancellation Actually Processed
Clicking the button is not proof. Check all of these:
- Look for the confirmation email and save it as a PDF.
- Log back in and verify the dashboard shows an expiration date, not a renewal date.
- Open your App Store or Play Store subscription list and confirm the subscription shows as canceled or expired.
- Watch your bank or credit card statement for at least one full billing cycle. If a charge appears, dispute it right away.
Your Right to a Cancel Path as Easy as Signup
The Federal Trade Commission’s Click-to-Cancel rule, finalized in October 2024, requires companies to let you cancel through the same method you used to sign up. If you subscribed online with a few clicks, the company has to offer an online cancellation. It cannot force you onto a phone line or into a live chat to end the service.3Federal Trade Commission. If a QR code platform hides the cancel button, demands a phone call during business hours, or routes you through a retention specialist you cannot skip, report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
If Charges Keep Coming After You Cancel
You have two federal remedies, and which one applies depends on how you paid.
Debit Cards and Bank Accounts
Under Regulation E, you can order your bank to stop a preauthorized electronic transfer by giving notice at least three business days before the scheduled transfer. The notice can be oral, though the bank may require written confirmation within 14 days.4eCFR. 12 CFR 1005.10 – Preauthorized Transfers
If an unauthorized charge has already posted, you generally have 60 days from the date the statement was sent to report it. The bank must investigate and, if it finds an error, correct it within one business day of finishing the investigation.5Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. 12 CFR 1005.6 – Liability of Consumer for Unauthorized Transfers
Credit Cards
The Fair Credit Billing Act gives you 60 days from the date the statement was sent to dispute a billing error in writing. Send the dispute to the billing inquiries address the card issuer designates, not the payment address. The issuer has 30 days to acknowledge the dispute and must resolve it within two billing cycles, and no longer than 90 days.6Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1666 – Correction of Billing Errors
Credit card disputes tend to go more smoothly because the money has not actually left your account yet. The 60-day clock under both laws runs from when the statement is sent, not when you notice the charge, so reading statements promptly is what keeps your dispute rights alive.
