To cancel a subscription on an iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose the subscription, and tap Cancel Subscription. The Apple Wallet app is a separate place, and it only handles recurring charges tied to Apple Pay or Apple Card. Knowing which path applies matters, because canceling in the wrong place can leave the charges running.1Apple Support. Cancel a Subscription From Your iPhone Settings
This is the right route for anything billed through your Apple Account: Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, iCloud+, and any third-party app subscription you bought through the App Store.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap your name at the top of the screen.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
- Tap Cancel Subscription. If you see Cancel All Services instead, tap that.
Before you confirm, the screen shows your next billing date and current price, so you can check what you’re actually stopping.1Apple Support. See Your Purchases and Subscriptions in the App Store on iPhone – Section: Change or Cancel a Subscription
Cancel a Preauthorized Payment in the Wallet App
Wallet’s role is narrower. If you set up Apple Pay or Apple Card as the payment method directly on a merchant’s site, whether that’s a gym, a streaming service, or another vendor, those recurring charges appear in Wallet under Preauthorized Payments. App Store subscriptions do not show up here.
- Open the Wallet app on your iPhone.
- Tap the More button, then tap Preauthorized Payments.
- Tap the merchant whose charges you want to stop.
- Tap Manage with [Merchant] to go to the merchant’s site and cancel there.
If the merchant’s site won’t let you cancel, you can tap Revoke Payment Authorization to ask the merchant to stop charging your Apple Pay method. One thing to understand before you use it: revoking authorization does not cancel the subscription or close your account with the merchant, and Apple notes charges might still occur in some cases. You are pulling the payment method, not ending the service. Contact the merchant to fully cancel.2Apple Support. View Preauthorized Payments in Apple Wallet
When You Can’t Find the Subscription
A charge on your bank statement doesn’t always mean Apple is billing you. If the subscription doesn’t appear in your Subscriptions list, one of these is usually why:
- You’re signed into the wrong Apple Account. Search your email for “receipt from Apple” or “invoice from Apple” to see which account was used, then sign in with that one.
- A family member’s Apple Account is on the receipt. They have to cancel it themselves; you can’t cancel someone else’s subscription, even within a Family Sharing group.
- The subscription isn’t billed through Apple at all. If you signed up on a company’s website and gave them your card directly, Apple has no record of it. Check the billing name on your statement and contact that company.
- The subscription came through your wireless carrier or another provider. Cancel with them, not through Apple.
The “not billed through Apple” case trips people up constantly. You may use an app every day on your iPhone, but if you didn’t buy the subscription through the App Store, canceling it isn’t something Apple can do for you.3Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple
What Happens After You Cancel
You keep access to the service through the end of the billing period you already paid for. Cancel on the 18th of a monthly cycle that started on the 5th, and you still have the service until the next 5th. Apple does not prorate or refund the unused days, and you do not lose access early.3Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple
If you’re on a free or discounted trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid being charged when it converts. Canceling early still lets you use the service for the rest of the trial, so there’s no reason to wait.3Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple
A Warning Before You Cancel iCloud+
Canceling iCloud+ isn’t like canceling a streaming service. When the paid plan ends, you drop to the free 5 GB tier.4Apple Support. Downgrade or Cancel Your iCloud+ Plan
If your stored data is over that limit, device backups stop, new photos won’t sync, and your iCloud email won’t send or receive once the mailbox fills. Apple provides a grace period, but data over the limit is eventually deleted. Download anything you need first: photos, documents, device backups, files in iCloud Drive. People lose irreplaceable photos this way because iCloud was the only place those files lived.
Requesting a Refund for a Charge You Didn’t Mean to Pay
If a subscription renewed or a trial converted without your realizing it, you can ask Apple for a refund. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, find the charge in your purchase history, and select Request a Refund.5Apple Support. Request a Refund for Apps or Content That You Bought from Apple
You can’t request a refund on a pending charge; wait until the email receipt arrives. After you submit, Apple says to allow 24 to 48 hours for an update. Approved refunds go back to your original payment method, and the time for the money to appear varies. Eligibility depends on your country or region and approval isn’t guaranteed, though accidental renewals and forgotten trials are among the more straightforward cases.5Apple Support.
