How to Cancel a Tableau Free Trial Without Getting Charged

There is no cancellation step required to end a Tableau free trial. Tableau doesn’t collect a credit card when you sign up, so the 14-day trial won’t roll into a paid subscription and won’t produce a charge when it expires.1Tableau. Maintain Licenses for Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep If you do nothing, Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep stop working at the end of the window, and access to a Tableau Cloud trial site is suspended.2Tableau. Renewing Your Licenses With Tableau That’s the whole cancellation.

A few things are still worth doing on purpose: exporting your work before the site is suspended, uninstalling the software if you want it off your machine, and understanding what changes once a trial converts to a paid plan.

Ending the Trial Early

Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep run on your computer with a time-limited license key, so there’s no online account to close. To end the trial early, uninstall the software. On Windows, open Settings, go to Apps, find Tableau, and select Uninstall. On Mac, drag the Tableau application from Applications to the Trash.

If you’d rather leave it installed in case you buy a license later, you can simply stop using it. The trial license expires on its own after 14 days, and Tableau will ask for a valid product key the next time the app opens.3Tableau. Licensing and Activation Nothing is charged either way.

Export Your Work Before Access Ends

Once the trial expires, Tableau doesn’t guarantee access to content you published to a Cloud site.2Tableau. Renewing Your Licenses With Tableau Download anything you want to keep while you still can.

From Tableau Cloud

Open a view and use the Download button at the top of the page. You can save the workbook as a .twb file to reopen later in Tableau Desktop, export to PDF or PNG, or pull the underlying data out as a .csv.4Tableau. Download Views and Workbooks The formats you actually see depend on what the site administrator has enabled, so grayed-out options mean asking whoever set up the trial.

From Tableau Desktop

Save workbooks as packaged workbooks (.twbx), which bundles the workbook with copies of local data sources and background images into a single file.5Tableau. Packaged Workbooks Use File, then Save As, and pick “Tableau Packaged Workbooks” from the file type dropdown. If your workbook connects to a database like SQL or Oracle, extract the data first: right-click the data source in the Data pane and choose Extract Data before saving.

If You Started a Paid Subscription

A paid Tableau plan is a different situation. Auto-renewal is on by default, and pricing runs from $15 per user per month for the base Tableau edition to $75 per user per month for Tableau Creator, billed annually.6Tableau. Buy Tableau To stop the next charge, you have to turn renewal off yourself.

Log in to the Tableau customer portal, open your subscription details, and look for the Automatic Renewal setting. Switching it off tells Tableau not to bill you again at the end of the current term; you keep access through whatever you’ve already paid for. If the toggle isn’t visible, email customerservice@tableau.com with your sales order number and invoice and ask them to cancel the renewal.7Tableau. Auto-Renewal FAQ Save whatever confirmation you receive; if a charge later gets disputed, that email is your record that you asked to cancel before the renewal date.

If You Were Charged After a Trial

Since the trial itself doesn’t take payment details, unexpected charges usually trace back to one of two things: a paid subscription started after the trial with auto-renewal left on, or another person on the same account placed an order.

Email customerservice@tableau.com with your order number and a short explanation. Tableau points customers who missed the auto-renewal opt-out to this same channel.7Tableau. Auto-Renewal FAQ If the charge is on a credit card and Tableau’s team doesn’t resolve it, you can dispute it with your card issuer under the federal billing error rules, which require a written dispute sent within 60 days of the statement date showing the charge.
