To cancel an ABC Fitness membership, send a written cancellation request that includes your 10-digit membership agreement number, then plan on one more billing cycle during the required 30-day notice period. ABC Fitness Solutions (formerly ABC Financial) handles billing for thousands of gyms, so your request usually runs through their system rather than the front desk. Your contract decides whether you can leave freely, owe an early termination fee, or qualify for a hardship exit.
Know Which Contract You Signed
ABC manages two kinds of agreements, and the cancellation path depends entirely on which one applies to you.
If you’re on an installment (fixed-term) contract, you agreed to a set number of months at a locked rate. Leaving before that term ends means either paying a buyout fee or qualifying for a relocation or medical exception. These contracts also roll into month-to-month billing once the original term runs out.
If you’re on an open-end (month-to-month) membership, you have no remaining commitment. You can cancel for any reason by giving a 30-day notice. Some clubs accept that notice by phone; others require it in writing.1ABC Fitness Solutions. Cancellation and Freeze Procedures
If your initial commitment period has already passed and you’ve been paying monthly since, you’re functionally an open-end member even if the original paperwork was a fixed-term deal. Pull up your contract or log into the ABC member portal to confirm.
What You Need Before You Send Anything
ABC will not process a cancellation without your 10-digit membership agreement number.2ABC Fitness. Cancellation and Freeze Procedures – Anytime Fitness – Olympia It’s on your original contract, in past billing emails, and inside your account on the online portal.
Your account also has to be current. Past-due balances typically pause the cancellation until you settle up, so confirm your most recent payment cleared before submitting the request.
If you’re canceling under a hardship exception, gather your documentation before you write the letter. The specifics are below.
How to Submit the Cancellation
Check your cancellation policy document first. Some ABC-managed clubs route all requests to ABC Fitness Solutions. Others handle cancellations at the gym level and explicitly tell members not to send requests to ABC. Sending it to the wrong place can cost you a month.
Certified Mail
Certified mail is the method that holds up when something goes wrong. Write a short letter with your full name, your 10-digit agreement number, the gym’s name and location, and a clear statement that you’re canceling your membership. At the post office, fill out PS Form 3800 for the certified mail receipt and PS Form 3811 for the return receipt.3United States Postal Service. PS Form 3800 – Certified Mail Receipt The green card you get back proves the date of receipt, which is the date your 30-day notice clock starts.

Phone
Some clubs let open-end members cancel over the phone, and when that option exists the date of the call starts the notice period.6ABC Fitness Solutions. Canceling a Fixed-Term Contract Early
If you’re still inside your commitment, there are three ways out: relocation, a qualifying medical condition, or a contract buyout.
Relocation
Most ABC-managed contracts require a move of at least 25 miles from your gym, though some set the threshold at 15. You’ll need to prove the move with a signed lease, a new utility bill, a newly issued driver’s license, military PCS orders, closing papers on a home purchase, or a letter from a new employer on company letterhead paired with a pay stub. The document has to show your name and new address. Most contracts charge a $50 cancellation fee, though military members with valid orders are often exempt.2ABC Fitness. Medical Condition
ABC allows early cancellation for what it calls a substantial disability. You need a letter from your physician on office letterhead describing the condition, explaining why you can’t use the gym, and listing a phone number ABC can call to verify.2ABC Fitness. Buyout
If neither hardship applies but you still want out, some agreements include a buyout clause. In the contracts reviewed, the buyout was $175 per person. Your cancellation letter has to explicitly state that you’re canceling under the buyout option.2ABC Fitness. Expect One More Charge During the 30-Day Notice
Every ABC cancellation triggers a 30-day notice period starting the day they receive your request.1ABC Fitness Solutions. Cancellation and Freeze Procedures If your usual billing date falls inside that window, one more payment will go through, and you owe it. Certified mail receipt dates the clock; a phone call dates it to the day of the call.
Watch for a confirmation email or letter saying your account is closed, with the date of your final billing cycle. Keep that confirmation. If a charge shows up later, that’s the document you’ll need.
Don’t Just Stop Paying
Canceling your card, closing the account, or ignoring the charges does not cancel the membership. The contract stays active, the balance keeps growing, and gyms generally send delinquent accounts to collections within 60 to 90 days of the first missed payment. A collection account can sit on your credit report for up to seven years from the date of first delinquency. A $30-a-month membership turns into a credit problem fast once late fees and collection costs stack on top. Twenty minutes on a certified letter is the cheaper path by a wide margin.

Contact – Gym Member Support Most post-cancellation charges are administrative errors that reverse quickly once you show proof.
If ABC won’t reverse the charge, dispute it with your card issuer. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, you have 60 days from the statement date showing the charge to send a written dispute identifying the charge, stating that you believe it’s a billing error, and explaining why.7Office of the Law Revision Counsel. United States Code Title 15 Section 1666 – Correction of Billing Errors The issuer then has up to two billing cycles, and no more than 90 days, to investigate. During that time they can’t try to collect the disputed amount from you.
Once you have written confirmation your membership is closed, ask your bank to block future charges from ABC Fitness. Some banks can set a merchant-specific block; others will reissue your card number. Either stops the surprise.
Freezing Instead of Canceling
If the situation is temporary, like travel, a minor injury, or a busy stretch at work, a freeze preserves your rate and contract. A typical ABC freeze policy allows up to three months per calendar year at $5 per month during the freeze.2ABC Fitness. Cancellation and Freeze Procedures – Anytime Fitness – Olympia Your account has to be current, the request has to be in writing, and the freeze starts on the next billing date after ABC receives it. For installment members, frozen months add to the end of the contract. Medical freezes can run longer with a physician letter of the same kind required for a medical cancellation.
Just Signed Up and Changed Your Mind
Most states give new gym members a short cooling-off window, typically three to five business days after signing, to cancel for a full refund. The cancellation has to be in writing, but it can be a plain letter or email saying you don’t want to be bound by the contract. Check your agreement for the exact deadline. Once that window closes, the standard cancellation rules and fees take over.
