To cancel Amazon Music and get a refund, first find out who is actually billing you, cancel through that company, and then ask Amazon customer service to refund the most recent charge. Cancellation and refund are two separate steps, and doing them in the wrong order (or with the wrong company) is why people keep getting charged.
Find Out Who Is Actually Billing You
Pull up your bank or credit card statement and look at the merchant name on the charge. Amazon’s own billing usually appears as “Amazon Digital Svcs amzn.com/bill.”1Amazon. Identify an Amazon Charge If you signed up on an iPhone or iPad, the charge shows up as “apple.com/bill” instead.2Apple Support. Get Help With Charges From apple.com/bill If you subscribed through an Android device, it will read “GOOGLE” followed by the service name.3Google Pay Help. This matters because Amazon has no ability to cancel or refund a subscription held by Apple or Google.4Amazon. Cancel Your Amazon Music Unlimited Subscription If you call Amazon about an Apple-billed charge, they’ll send you back to Apple. While you’re checking, confirm which email address the subscription is tied to. People with more than one Amazon account sometimes cancel on the wrong one and keep getting billed from the other.
Cancel on Amazon’s Website
If Amazon is the billing entity, cancellation takes a couple of minutes in a browser:
- Go to Your Amazon Music Settings, found under “Memberships and Subscriptions” in your account.
- Find the Amazon Music Unlimited section and open your renewal details.
- Select the cancel option, pick a reason from the dropdown, and click through any retention offers Amazon shows you.
- Confirm on the final screen.4Amazon. Cancel Your Amazon Music Unlimited Subscription
The confirmation page displays the exact date your access ends. You keep the service through the end of the billing cycle you’ve already paid for. After that date, Unlimited tracks and podcasts in your library are grayed out and won’t play.4Amazon. Cancel Your Amazon Music Unlimited Subscription Playlists stay, but the songs inside them go silent unless you resubscribe. Anything you bought outright from Amazon’s digital music store is unaffected.
Cancel Through Apple or Google
If you signed up on an iPhone or iPad, you cancel inside iOS, not on Amazon’s site:
- Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Find Amazon Music, tap it, and select Cancel Subscription.5Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
If you signed up through Google Play on Android:
- Open your device’s Settings app.
- Tap Google, then your name, then Manage Your Google Account.
- Go to Payments & Subscriptions, then Manage Subscriptions.
- Find Amazon Music and cancel it.6Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play
With both Apple and Google, you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. Cancel before the next renewal date to avoid another charge. Deleting the Amazon Music app from your phone does nothing to stop the billing.
Ask Amazon for a Refund
Canceling stops future charges. It does not undo the one that just hit your account. Amazon’s terms of use state that payment for Music Unlimited is “non-refundable,” and the terms only guarantee a prorated refund if Amazon itself discontinues your plan.7Amazon. Amazon Music Terms of Use In practice, customer service representatives have discretion to issue refunds anyway, particularly for first-time complaints about a free trial that quietly converted or an accidental sign-up through an Echo.
Go to Amazon’s Customer Service page and pick the memberships or subscriptions category. You can use the chat assistant or request a phone callback. Have the exact charge date and amount in front of you. Explain clearly that the subscription was unintentional and keep the tone polite; representatives are more likely to use their discretion for a reasonable request than for a demand. If the first representative says no, ask to escalate to a supervisor.
Refunds through Amazon can take up to 30 days to appear on your statement, depending on the payment method.8Amazon. Check Your Refund Status If Apple or Google billed you, Amazon cannot process the refund at all. You have to request it through Apple’s or Google’s own refund channels, and their policies are their own.
Think Twice Before Calling Your Bank
If Amazon refuses to refund you, going straight to your bank for a chargeback is tempting. It is also risky. Amazon routinely locks or suspends accounts that have open chargebacks against them, and the lockout can cover your entire Amazon account: Kindle books, Prime Video, app libraries, and anything else tied to that login. Restoring access usually means paying back the disputed amount first.
Exhaust Amazon’s own customer service before you dispute with the bank. A chargeback is on strongest ground when you truly didn’t authorize the transaction at all, not when you authorized it and later wished you hadn’t; Amazon can show the bank you agreed to the subscription terms.
Stop It From Happening Again
A lot of unwanted Music Unlimited sign-ups come through Alexa. Asking an Echo to “play music” can trigger a free trial prompt, and a casual “yes” starts the subscription. To shut this off, open the Alexa app and go to More, then Settings, then Account Settings, then Voice Purchasing, and toggle it off.9Amazon. Turn Alexa Voice Purchasing On or Off You can also restrict voice purchases to recognized household members instead of turning the feature off entirely.
On the website, 1-Click ordering lets you subscribe to digital services without a confirmation screen. In your account settings, open “1-Click Settings” under ordering preferences and turn it off for all devices. Disabling both voice purchasing and 1-Click closes the two easiest paths to an accidental subscription.
