To cancel an Amazon Prime free trial, sign in to your Amazon account, open Manage Prime Membership, click the Manage Membership dropdown, and select End Membership. Do it any time before your 30-day trial ends and you won’t be charged. Miss the deadline and Amazon bills the card on file automatically: $14.99 for the monthly plan or $139 for the annual plan.

Cancel on the Mobile App
The path in the Amazon Shopping app looks like this:3About Amazon. How to Cancel a Prime Membership
- Open the app and tap the profile icon (the person silhouette) at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll down and tap Manage Prime Membership.
- Tap the Manage Membership dropdown, then the Manage Membership button inside that menu.
- Tap End Membership and follow the on-screen prompts to confirm.
Getting Past the Retention Screens
After you hit End Membership, Amazon shows several screens trying to keep you subscribed. Buttons labeled Keep My Benefits or Remind Me Later do not cancel anything. Keep clicking through until you reach a button that explicitly says you want to end the membership. The “keep” options are large and prominent; the actual cancellation option is smaller. This is where most people get stuck and walk away thinking they cancelled when they didn’t.
Once you push through the final confirmation, you’ll see a message on screen saying the trial will not renew. Amazon also emails a confirmation to the address on your account.4Amazon. Cancel Items and Orders Save that email. It’s your proof if a charge shows up later.
You Keep Prime Through Day 30
Cancelling early doesn’t cut off your access. When you end a free trial before it expires, Amazon lets you use Prime benefits for the rest of the 30-day period, and the confirmation screen shows your access end date.5Amazon Prime Video. Cancel Your Prime Video Add-On Subscription Cancel on day 10 and you still have streaming and free shipping through day 30. If you’ve decided to cancel, do it now. There’s no benefit to waiting.
Remind Me Before Renewing
If you want to run out the full trial without the risk of forgetting, look for a checkbox labeled Remind me before renewing on your membership settings page or during the cancellation flow. Selecting it tells Amazon to notify you three days before the trial converts to a paid plan. Set your own calendar reminder too. One missed email is all it takes to end up paying.
If You Already Got Charged
If the trial already converted, you may still be able to get your money back. Amazon’s refund policy for Prime has two tiers:6Amazon. Amazon Prime Terms and Conditions
- Within 3 business days of the charge, Amazon refunds the full membership fee, though it may deduct the value of any Prime benefits you used in that window (free shipping on an order, for example).
- After 3 business days, a full refund is still available, but only if you haven’t used any Prime benefits since being charged — no shipping, no streaming, nothing.
Request the refund through the same cancellation flow: go to your membership settings and select End Membership. If you qualify, Amazon presents the refund option. If it doesn’t appear and you think you’re eligible, contact customer service through the Help pages and choose Prime to reach chat or a callback. Agents sometimes have discretion if you catch the charge quickly. Memberships purchased with gift codes or promotional codes are not refundable, and Prime bought through a third party (such as a bundled mobile plan) has to be refunded by that company.
Prime Student and Prime Access Trials
The 30-day window and the $14.99 / $139 price points apply to standard Prime. Two discounted plans work differently, though you cancel them the same way.
Prime Student (now called Prime for Young Adults) gives college students a six-month free trial. After that, the rate is $7.49 per month or $69 per year.7Amazon. Cancel Prime for Young Adults One catch worth knowing: if you cancel a Prime Student trial and later rejoin, you won’t get another free trial — you go straight into paid membership.
Prime Access is Amazon’s discounted plan for recipients of government assistance programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, and SSI. The trial is 30 days and the membership afterward is $6.99 per month.8Amazon. Amazon Prime Access
