How to Cancel an Ikon Pass: Refunds, Spot Claims & Affirm

A standard Ikon Pass is non-refundable, non-transferable, and sold as a final sale.1Ikon Pass. Purchase Terms and Conditions If you want to know how to cancel an Ikon Pass and recover some or all of what you paid, Alterra Mountain Company gives you three possible paths: cancel a refundable pass you bought at the higher price, defer an unused pass for credit toward next season, or file a Spot Pass Protection claim if a qualifying life event is getting in your way. Which one you can use depends on which pass version you bought, whether you’ve scanned it yet, and why you’re backing out.

Cancel a Refundable Pass

For the 2026–27 season, Ikon sells refundable versions of both the Ikon Pass and the Ikon Base Pass. A refundable adult Ikon Pass runs $1,738.80 against $1,449 for the standard non-refundable version.2Ikon Pass. Confidence to Buy The roughly $290 premium buys the right to cancel for any reason through January 15, 2027, with no documentation required.

How much you get back depends on use:

  • No uses: 100% refund through January 15, 2027
  • One use: 50% refund through January 15, 2027
  • Two or more uses: no refund

That one-use threshold is where people get caught. A single lift scan on opening weekend caps you at 50%.3Ikon Pass. Refundable Pass To cancel, log in at ikonpass.com, open My Account, and select the cancellation option on your refundable pass before the deadline. The refund returns to your original payment method.

If you already bought the standard non-refundable pass, this path is not available retroactively.

Defer an Unused Pass to Next Season

If you bought a non-refundable 25/26 pass and haven’t used it, you can defer it for a credit toward next season. The deadline is December 11, 2025. Miss it and the option is gone.4Ikon Pass. 25/26 Deferral Option

“Unused” is strict. Your pass cannot have been scanned at any Ikon destination between purchase and the deferral deadline. That includes spring skiing, summer mountain biking, redeeming Friends & Family discounts, Ikon Pass Travel deals, or any other benefit tied to the pass. One scan at one resort disqualifies you.

A few more rules shape how the credit works:

  • The credit applies toward one pass product for the following season. It can’t be split across multiple purchases, and anything left over after that purchase is forfeited.
  • Credits expire when next season’s pass products are no longer available for sale. You can’t bank them across multiple seasons.
  • Passes bought through bundled packages or authorized third-party sellers may not be eligible. Check with whoever sold you the pass.

To defer, log into My Account on the Ikon Pass website, select your pass, and choose the deferral option before December 11, 2025.4Ikon Pass. 25/26 Deferral Option Once confirmed, the pass is deactivated for the current season and the credit shows up on your account.

File a Spot Pass Protection Claim

If you added Spot Pass Protection at checkout, a qualifying life event can get you reimbursed for the pass. Spot replaced Allianz Global Assistance as Ikon’s insurance partner, so any older guide pointing to Allianz is outdated. The covered reasons are specific:5Spot Help Center. Pass Protection FAQs

  • Your own sickness or injury, or that of a family member
  • Death of a family member
  • Being called to active military duty or emergency reservist service, or having previously granted military leave revoked
  • Involuntary transfer of employment, or involuntary termination or layoff
  • A subpoena, jury duty, or being required to appear as a witness
  • Your primary residence becoming uninhabitable
  • Being quarantined, including for COVID
  • Normal pregnancy or childbirth, provided conception occurred after the plan’s effective date (not available to New York or Washington residents)

Each category has edges. A voluntary job change isn’t an involuntary transfer. A pre-existing condition diagnosed before you bought the pass may not qualify. The insurance covers events that were genuinely unforeseeable when you purchased.

One consequence to understand before filing: if Spot approves your claim, your pass is canceled permanently. You won’t be able to ski on it for the rest of the season.

Documentation Spot Will Expect

What you submit depends on the event:

  • Medical: a physician statement with the injury or illness, the date, and confirmation that it prevents you from skiing, plus the doctor’s signature and license information.
  • Military: a copy of official government orders showing deployment dates or duty assignment.
  • Employment: a letter on company letterhead from your employer or HR confirming the involuntary transfer or layoff, with the effective date and new location if applicable.
  • Legal obligations: a copy of the court summons or a letter from the clerk of court confirming your service dates.
  • Pregnancy: medical records confirming conception occurred after the plan’s effective date.

Date discrepancies between your documentation and your claim are a common reason for denial. If the doctor’s note says March 10 and your claim says February 25, an adjuster will flag it. Fix the paperwork before you submit.

How to File

File through Spot’s online portal, linked from the Ikon Pass website under pass protection benefits. Enter the email tied to your purchase to locate your policy, upload supporting documents as PDFs or images, and complete the questionnaire carefully so the claim routes correctly.6Ikon Pass. Spot Injury Insurance An adjuster reviews the file and may email you for more information, so watch your inbox and spam folder. Approved refunds return to the original payment method.

If You Paid Through Affirm

Financing through Affirm is a separate agreement from your pass purchase. All payment plan terms, fees, and interest are handled by Affirm.7Ikon Pass. Affirm Payment Plan A refund from Ikon does not automatically stop your Affirm payments. Contact Affirm at affirm.com/help to work out what happens to your financing once a refund or cancellation goes through.

If Your Spot Claim Is Denied

Start with the denial letter. The most common reasons are missing documentation, date mismatches, or a reason that doesn’t fall within a covered category. If you have new evidence or believe the decision rests on incorrect information, submit a written appeal through Spot with the additional documents attached. Keep copies of everything.

You can also call Ikon Pass customer service at 888-365-IKON (888-365-4566) or 303-729-3174 to talk through the situation.8Ikon Pass. Contact Us If Ikon’s customer service and Spot’s appeal process both come up empty, filing a complaint with your state’s department of insurance is an avenue when you believe a claim was improperly denied. A credit card chargeback is a last-resort option that carries risk, since Alterra can ban your account from future purchases.

Deadlines to Put on Your Calendar

Missing a deadline is the single most common reason people can’t cancel.

  • Deferral deadline for the 25/26 pass: December 11, 2025, and the pass must be completely unused.4Ikon Pass. 25/26 Deferral Option
  • Refundable pass cancellation for the 26/27 pass: January 15, 2027, with a full refund if unused and 50% if used once.3Ikon Pass. Refundable Pass
  • Spot Pass Protection claims: file as soon as the qualifying event occurs; the exact filing window is set by your policy terms in Spot’s portal.
  • Deferral credit: expires when the following season’s passes are no longer available for purchase.

Put the dates on your calendar the day you buy the pass. The deferral deadline in particular catches people off guard, because December feels early when the ski season has barely started.
