To cancel an Apple ID subscription, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, pick the subscription, and tap Cancel Subscription. On a Mac, the same option lives in the App Store under your name and Account Settings. Without an Apple device, sign in at account.apple.com and go to Subscriptions. That single menu holds every subscription Apple bills for you, so once you find it, canceling takes under a minute.1Apple. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
On an iPhone or iPad
Open the Settings app and tap your name at the top. Tap Subscriptions. You’ll see an Active list and an Expired list, with each active entry showing its next renewal date and price. Tap the one you want to end, then tap Cancel Subscription. If the entry is a bundle, the button reads Cancel All Services instead. Confirm the prompt and you’re done.2Apple Support. See Your Purchases and Subscriptions in the App Store on iPhone
No Cancel option? Look at the date shown. If it says Expires rather than Renews, the subscription is already canceled and running out its paid period.
On a Mac
Open the App Store. Click your name in the lower-left corner, then click Account Settings. Scroll to the Subscriptions row and click Manage. Click Edit next to the subscription you want to end, then Cancel Subscription, confirm, and click Done.3Apple Support. Cancel, Change, or Share Subscriptions in the App Store on Mac
In a Web Browser
Go to account.apple.com in any browser and sign in with your Apple Account. Open the Subscriptions section, select the subscription, and follow the prompts.1Apple. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple This is the route to use when your iPhone is lost or broken and a renewal is coming up.
On Apple Watch or Apple TV
On an Apple Watch, open the App Store app, scroll to Account, tap Subscriptions, choose the subscription, and tap Cancel Subscription. On an Apple TV, go to Settings, then Users & Accounts, choose your account, and open Subscriptions. The flow matches the iPhone version.
How to Confirm the Cancellation Worked
Don’t wait for a confirmation email. Apple sends renewal receipt emails only if you’ve turned on Renewal Receipt Emails in your subscription settings, and there is no guaranteed cancellation confirmation message.2Apple Support. See Your Purchases and Subscriptions in the App Store on iPhone Reopen Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, and check that the entry now reads Expires instead of Renews. That’s the reliable signal.
What You Keep After Canceling
For most subscriptions, you keep access to the paid features until the end of the billing period you already paid for. Cancel a yearly plan three months in and you still get the remaining nine months; it simply won’t renew when that period ends.
Free Trials
For third-party app subscriptions, canceling during a free trial does not cut off your access early. You keep the full trial and avoid the charge at the end. Apple’s own services don’t always behave this way. Canceling an Apple Music free trial, for instance, can end access immediately rather than letting the trial run out. Apple recommends canceling at least 24 hours before a trial expires to be safe.1Apple. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
If You Share Subscriptions With Family
If you’re the organizer of a Family Sharing group and you cancel a shared subscription like Apple One or Apple TV+, every member of the group loses access immediately. The same applies if a family member leaves the group: they lose access to shared subscriptions and purchases right away.4Apple. Leave or Remove a Member From a Family Sharing Group on iPhone If you’re not the organizer, you can cancel your own individual subscriptions but generally cannot cancel ones the organizer is sharing with the group.
iCloud+ Is Different
iCloud+ doesn’t behave like a streaming subscription because downgrading affects your stored photos, documents, backups, and email. If your files exceed the tier you’re moving to (or the free 5 GB limit), iCloud stops syncing, backups pause, and you may stop receiving iCloud Mail. Move or download anything you want to keep before the current billing period ends, which is when the change takes effect. The path on current iOS is Settings, your name, Subscriptions, then iCloud+ under Active, then See All Plans.5Apple Support. Downgrade or Cancel Your iCloud+ Plan
Refunds Are a Separate Request
Canceling stops future charges. It does not refund the most recent one. If you were charged for something you didn’t want, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, tap “I’d like to,” choose “Request a refund,” pick a reason, select the charge, and submit. Apple typically responds within 24 to 48 hours. You can’t request a refund on a pending charge; wait until it posts and the email receipt arrives.6Apple Support. Request a Refund for Apps or Content That You Bought From Apple If you want both to stop and to be refunded, do both.
If a Charge Isn’t in Your Subscriptions List
If a charge on your bank statement doesn’t match anything under Subscriptions, it probably wasn’t billed through Apple. Services like Netflix or Spotify handle their own billing when you sign up on their website rather than through the App Store, and those subscriptions never appear in Apple settings. Cancel directly with the company.
Canceling a Deceased Person’s Subscriptions
A designated Legacy Contact can reach many parts of a deceased person’s account, but Apple excludes subscriptions and payment information from what a Legacy Contact can access.7Apple. How to Add a Legacy Contact for Your Apple Account To stop ongoing charges, contact Apple Support directly with a death certificate and request account closure. Blocking future charges with the bank on the payment method on file can prevent additional billing while the closure is processed.
