How to Cancel Apple Music Subscription on iPhone, Mac, or Web

To cancel your Apple Music subscription, open the subscription settings on the account that bills you, select Apple Music, and tap or click Cancel Subscription. You keep access through the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for, and the subscription simply stops renewing after that.

The one thing to sort out before you start: who is actually charging you. That decides where you cancel.

Figure Out Who Bills You

Apple Music can be billed three different ways, and only one of them is canceled through Apple’s own settings.

  • If Apple bills your card or Apple Account directly, cancel through Apple on any device or at account.apple.com.
  • If you signed up through Google Play on an Android phone, Google handles the billing and you have to cancel through Google Play. The Apple Music app itself won’t show a cancel option in this case, which catches people off guard.
  • If your wireless carrier bundles Apple Music into your phone plan or bills it as an add-on, you cancel through the carrier, not Apple.

If you aren’t sure, look at a recent credit card or bank statement. The charge will post under Apple, Google, or your carrier’s name, and that tells you where to go.

Cancel a Free Trial Before You Get Charged

If you’re on a free or discounted trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Apple processes trial renewals a day early, so waiting until the final hours can result in a charge even though the trial hasn’t technically expired yet.1Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple For a paid subscription that has already renewed, there’s no similar deadline. Cancel whenever, and you keep access through the end of the cycle you paid for.

What Happens to Your Library

Once the subscription actually expires, you lose access to everything that came with it. Streamed songs stop playing, downloaded tracks become unplayable, and playlists you built inside Apple Music eventually disappear. Apple reportedly removes playlist data roughly a month after cancellation, and there’s no official way to recover it if you resubscribe later.

Music you bought outright from the iTunes Store is a separate matter. Those tracks stay tied to your Apple Account and remain available to re-download regardless of your subscription status.
