How to Cancel Audible on iPhone, Android, or Amazon

To cancel Audible, you have to go through whichever company actually bills you: Amazon through the Audible website, Apple through your iPhone’s subscription settings, or Google through the Play Store. The Audible app itself has no cancel button, and deleting the app does nothing to stop the charges.1Audible. Cancel Membership Picking the wrong channel is the single most common reason people think they’ve canceled but keep getting charged.

Check Who Bills You First

Audible memberships can be billed by three different companies. If you signed up on the Audible website, Amazon bills you directly. If you signed up through the Audible app on an iPhone or iPad, Apple usually handles billing. If you signed up on an Android phone through the Google Play Store, Google bills you.

The quickest way to confirm which one applies to you is your bank or credit card statement. Charges billed through Apple typically show as “Apple*Audible.” Google charges appear as “GOOGLE*Audible.” Amazon-billed charges show up as “AMAZON AUDIBLE” or “AMZ-DIGITAL-AUDIBLE.” Match the descriptor to the matching set of steps below.

Cancel an Amazon-Billed Membership

If Amazon bills you, cancel through the Audible website in a browser. Open Safari, Chrome, or any mobile browser, go to audible.com, and sign in.1Audible. Cancel Membership

Audible will then run you through several retention screens: discounted plans, free months, other offers. You have to decline each one by tapping “Continue to cancel,” which is often smaller or less prominent than the button accepting the deal. After clearing those screens, pick a reason you’re leaving and tap “Finish Cancelling” at the bottom of the final page.1Audible. Cancel Membership

  • Tap your name at the top of the screen.
  • Tap Subscriptions.
  • Find and tap Audible.
  • Tap Cancel Subscription, then Confirm.

Confirm the Cancellation Went Through

Whichever path you used, look for two things. Audible sends a confirmation email once the cancellation processes. Your Account Details page on the Audible website will also show a “Member until” date, which is when your current billing cycle ends and your benefits stop.1Audible. Cancel Membership

Check your bank statement during the next billing cycle to make sure no new charge appears. If one does post after the “Member until” date, contact Audible support or dispute it with your bank. For Apple and Google-billed accounts, pending transactions may take a day or two to clear after a successful cancellation.

What Happens to Your Books, Credits, and Plus Catalog Titles

Anything you bought with credits or cash stays in your library. Audible’s terms state that cancellation “does not terminate your license and access to purchased content.”4Audible. Audible Service Conditions of Use You can log back in and listen to those titles whenever you want.

Two things do go away. Unused credits expire immediately when your membership ends, so spend any remaining credits before your “Member until” date.4Audible. Audible Service Conditions of Use Anything you added from the Plus Catalog also locks, because those titles came with the membership rather than being purchased.5Audible. Plus Catalog Issues

One nuance on purchased titles: Audible’s terms describe re-download availability as a “convenience” and don’t guarantee it permanently.4Audible. Audible Service Conditions of Use In practice titles stay accessible, but downloading your favorites to a device before you cancel removes that small risk.

Consider Pausing Instead

If the reason you’re canceling is cost, pausing is often a better move. A pause stops billing for up to three months and keeps your existing credits. You won’t earn new credits or get Plus Catalog access during the pause, but you also won’t lose what you’ve already banked. You can pause once every twelve months.

The pause option lives on your Account Details page on the Audible website, and it sometimes shows up as one of the retention offers during the cancellation flow. If you’ve started down the cancellation path, keep an eye out for it before you finish.

If You Were Just Charged and Want a Refund

Audible’s terms state that fees already paid are not refunded when you cancel.4Audible. Audible Service Conditions of Use That said, if you were charged for a renewal you didn’t want and haven’t used any benefits during the new cycle, calling Audible promptly gives you the best chance at a refund. The sooner after the charge, the better. Audible support is reachable at 1-888-283-5051 or through the “Contact Us” option on the help page.

For Apple-billed subscriptions, request the refund through Apple’s support instead, since Apple processed the payment. Google Play works the same way. In both cases, any refund goes back to the original payment method.
