To cancel Audible through Amazon, sign in at amazon.com, open your Memberships and Subscriptions page, find Audible, click Manage Subscription, and then click Cancel Subscription under Advanced Controls. The whole thing takes a couple of minutes. Before you click, spend any unused credits and finish any Plus Catalog books you’re in the middle of, because both vanish the moment your membership ends.
First, Confirm Amazon Actually Bills You
Check a recent statement. If your Audible charge shows up as an Amazon charge, Amazon handles it and the steps below apply. If it shows up as an Apple or Google charge, you signed up through the App Store or Google Play, and nothing you do on Amazon will stop the billing. Those memberships are managed entirely in Apple or Google’s subscription settings.1Audible. Cancel Membership
One quirk worth knowing if you’re billed by Apple or Google: your credits don’t expire at cancellation the way Amazon-billed credits do.1Audible. Cancel Membership
The Four Steps on Amazon
- Open your Memberships and Subscriptions page. Go to amazon.com/yourmembershipsandsubscriptions directly, or hover over Account & Lists on the Amazon homepage and follow the subscriptions link. The page lists active, cancelled, and expired subscriptions with renewal dates and pricing.
- Find your Audible entry in the list.
- Click Manage Subscription next to it.
- Click Cancel Subscription under Advanced Controls.
Your membership then stops renewing at the end of the current billing period, and Audible sends a confirmation email as proof.
Do These Things Before You Cancel
Spend Every Credit
Unused credits expire the moment cancellation takes effect. On the Premium Plus plan at $14.95 a month, each credit is worth roughly that; on a two-credit plan at $22.95, you lose more. Pick titles you’ve been meaning to read and redeem everything in your account first. A book you’re only mildly interested in still beats a credit that evaporates, because audiobooks you buy with a credit stay in your library permanently and remain re-downloadable after cancellation.3Audible. Finish Any Plus Catalog Book You’re Reading
The Plus Catalog is the streaming-style library included with your membership. Titles from that catalog aren’t yours; when the membership ends, they get a lock icon and become unplayable.4Audible. Plus Catalog Issues If you’re partway through one and want to finish it, do that before you cancel.
The Retention Offers You’ll See
Audible doesn’t let you walk out quietly. Between clicking Cancel Subscription and actually finishing, you’ll see screens offering alternatives: a pause, a cheaper plan, or discounted pricing such as a reduced monthly rate for a few months or a discounted annual plan. The specific offer depends on your account history. If you want out, keep clicking Continue to cancel or No thanks until you reach the confirmation page.
The Federal Trade Commission’s finalized click-to-cancel rule requires that cancelling a subscription be as straightforward as signing up, and prohibits sellers from making cancellation unnecessarily difficult once you’ve decided to end a recurring charge.5Federal Trade Commission. Consider Pausing Instead if Cost Is the Issue
If you’re leaving because of the monthly charge rather than because you’re done with Audible, pausing may fit better. Audible lets you pause for up to three months, once every twelve months. You won’t be charged and won’t receive new credits during the pause, but your existing unused credits stay in your account and you can still spend them.1Audible. Cancel Membership
The pause option sometimes appears as one of the retention offers during the cancellation flow. If it doesn’t show up, contact Audible’s customer support and ask for it directly. There are no cancellation fees and no commitments on any plan, so if a pause isn’t right either, cancelling costs you nothing beyond the credits you forgot to spend.3Audible.
