How you cancel an Avira subscription depends on where you bought it. Direct purchases from Avira are canceled in your Avira account, in-app purchases go through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Microsoft Store, and subscriptions billed by Cleverbridge or PayPal are canceled through those platforms. Whichever route applies, your paid features stay active until the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for.1Avira. Check your original order confirmation email before you start. The sender tells you which channel handled the sale, and that determines which of the steps below applies to you.
Cancel Through Your Avira Account
Sign in at the Avira website, click the profile icon in the top-right corner, and select “Subscriptions.”2Avira. Manage Your Avira Subscriptions The page lists your active products, payment history, and upcoming renewal dates. Find the subscription and either toggle off automatic renewal or click the cancel option.
Avira may ask why you’re canceling. Pick a reason and confirm. A confirmation email goes to the address tied to your account. Save it. If a charge shows up later, that email is your proof the cancellation went through.
Cancel on iPhone or iPad
Subscriptions bought as in-app purchases on an Apple device are billed by Apple, not Avira. Open Settings, tap your Apple ID at the top, then tap “Subscriptions.” Find Avira in the list, tap it, and tap “Cancel Subscription.”3Avira. Canceling an Avira Plan In-App Purchase on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Microsoft Store
Apple shows the date your current period ends, and you keep access until then. If Avira doesn’t appear in your Apple subscriptions, you bought it somewhere else — try your Avira account or a billing partner instead.
Cancel on Android
Open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile icon, then go to “Payments & subscriptions” and “Subscriptions.” Select Avira, tap “Cancel subscription,” and follow the prompts.4Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play Access continues through the end of the paid period, and Google won’t charge the next renewal. If Avira isn’t listed, the purchase came from somewhere other than Google Play.
Cancel Through the Microsoft Store
Sign in to your Microsoft account services page using the same Microsoft account you used to purchase the subscription, then cancel or turn off recurring billing on the Avira listing.3Avira. Canceling an Avira Plan In-App Purchase on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Microsoft Store If you see “Turn on recurring billing” rather than a cancel button, the subscription is already set to expire at the end of the current term. Nothing more to do.
Cancel Through Cleverbridge
Avira uses Cleverbridge as a billing partner for many direct purchases. If your order confirmation came from Cleverbridge instead of Avira, cancel there. Cleverbridge’s purchase lookup tool finds your order by the email address you used, and you can manage or cancel the recurring charge without contacting support.5Cleverbridge Help and Support. How Can I Receive an Invoice for My Order Your reference number is in the subject line of the original Cleverbridge confirmation email.
Cancel Through PayPal
If PayPal handles the billing, cancel inside PayPal. On the website, go to Settings, click “Payments,” and select “Subscriptions and saved businesses” or “Automatic Payments.” Find Avira and cancel the automatic payment.6PayPal. What Is an Automatic Payment and How Do I Update or Cancel One
In the mobile app, tap the menu icon, then “Subscriptions, Linked Businesses or Pay Bills,” select Avira, and choose “Stop Paying with PayPal.” Removing the authorization ends PayPal’s future payments to Avira.
How to Request a Refund
Canceling stops future charges. It doesn’t refund what you’ve already paid. Avira does offer refunds, and the window depends on the plan.
For annual subscriptions, you can request a full refund within 60 days of being charged. After that, you’re eligible for a pro-rated refund based on the remaining days in the term, starting the month after you submit the request.7Avira. Subscription FAQ
For monthly subscriptions, a full refund is available only within 14 days of the initial purchase, or within 14 days of being charged following a free trial. Monthly renewals after that aren’t eligible for any refund.7Avira. Subscription FAQ
To file the request, sign in to the Avira support portal, click “Email,” and select “Billing, purchases & licenses,” then “I want to cancel my contract and get a refund.” Include the reference number from your original confirmation email.8Avira. Request a Refund for Your Avira Order via Email Refunds through this route apply only to purchases from the Avira online shop. Purchases from a retailer, the App Store, or Google Play refund through that seller instead.
What Happens After You Cancel
Your Avira subscription keeps working until the end of the period you already paid for. Cancel six months into an annual plan and you still have the remaining six months of protection.1Avira. What Happens With My License if I Cancel My Avira Subscription Renewal Early Once that period ends, the product downgrades to the free version if one is available. If none exists for your product, the license expires.
The free version handles basic antivirus scanning but drops premium features like the VPN, password manager, and advanced threat detection. If you’re moving to a different security product, install it and confirm it’s running before your Avira license expires so you aren’t left uncovered.
Don’t Use a Bank Chargeback as a Shortcut
If the official process feels slow, disputing the charge with your bank looks like a fix. It creates problems instead. A chargeback on a subscription you agreed to costs the merchant revenue and dispute fees, and the merchant can flag your account, which typically means losing access to your Avira license immediately rather than keeping it through the paid period. The FTC’s click-to-cancel rule requires sellers to make cancellation as easy as signing up, so if Avira’s own process isn’t working, the recourse is a complaint with the FTC.9Federal Trade Commission.
