To cancel a Backstage subscription, you have to cancel it in the same place you signed up: on the Backstage website if you subscribed directly, through Apple if you subscribed on an iPhone, or through Google Play if you subscribed on Android. None of those channels can cancel billing started in another. Getting this wrong is the single most common reason people keep getting charged after they think they’ve canceled.
First, Find Out Where You Subscribed
Pull up a recent bank or credit card statement before you touch anything else. If the charge is listed as “Backstage,” you subscribed directly through the website. If it’s listed as “Apple” or “Google,” your billing runs through that app store, and Backstage’s own site cannot stop it or refund it.1Backstage | Mandy | StarNow Help Center. You can double-check inside your account too. Log in, click “More” in the upper right, open Account Settings, and look at Subscription Info. That page shows your plan, your price, and your renewal date.2Backstage | Mandy | StarNow Help Center. Locating Your Renewal Information
Cancel on the Backstage Website
If you subscribed directly, go to Account Settings and click “Turn Auto-Renew Off” under your subscription info.3Backstage | Mandy | StarNow Help Center. Cancellation and Refunds That’s the whole mechanism. Backstage may ask why you’re leaving or try to talk you into staying, but you can click through those prompts to the final confirmation.
The cancellation registers the same day, but you keep access for the rest of the period you already paid for. Three months into a six-month plan, you still get the remaining three months before the account drops to unpaid status.3Backstage | Mandy | StarNow Help Center. Cancellation and Refunds
Two situations block self-service cancellation on the website: a Backstage print subscription, and an account that’s currently overdue. In either case, use the help center contact form to reach customer service.3Backstage | Mandy | StarNow Help Center. Cancellation and Refunds
Cancel Through Apple on iPhone
If you subscribed through the Backstage iPhone app, only Apple can stop the billing. Open Settings, tap your name at the top, tap Subscriptions, find Backstage, tap it, and tap Cancel Subscription.4Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple If you don’t see a cancel button and the entry shows an expiration message in red, it’s already canceled.
One trap catches a lot of people: deleting the Backstage app from your phone does nothing to the subscription. Billing continues until you cancel through Settings.1Backstage | Mandy | StarNow Help Center. Cancelling Your iOS Apple Subscription to Backstage, Mandy, or StarNow If you’re being charged by Apple but Backstage isn’t in your Subscriptions list, the subscription is tied to a different Apple ID than the one signed into your phone.
Cancel Through Google Play on Android
If you subscribed through the Android app, open the Google Play app, go to your subscriptions, select the Backstage subscription, and tap Cancel Subscription. Follow the prompts to confirm.5Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play
Same warning as on iOS: uninstalling the Backstage app does not cancel the subscription. The charges only stop once you cancel inside Google Play.5Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play
What Happens After You Cancel
Whichever route you used, canceling turns off auto-renewal; it doesn’t cut off access immediately. Backstage subscriptions auto-renew by default, and your subscription is treated as terminated on the last day of the current paid period.6Backstage | Mandy | StarNow Help Center. Backstage Subscriptions and Benefits Until that date, casting calls and premium features stay available.
After the period ends, the account reverts to unpaid status. Your profile data stays in the system, and you’ll see a “Not Subscribed” label with the option to re-subscribe later.2Backstage | Mandy | StarNow Help Center. Locating Your Renewal Information Premium features like unlimited submissions to casting calls become unavailable until you resubscribe. On the date your next charge would have hit, check your bank statement; if a new charge posted, you likely canceled through the wrong platform.
Refund Rules
Monthly subscriptions are not eligible for refunds under any circumstances. On longer plans, like semiannual or annual, you can get a full refund if you cancel within 30 days of the purchase or renewal date. After that 30-day window closes, no refund is available for the remainder of the term.6Backstage | Mandy | StarNow Help Center. Backstage Subscriptions and Benefits
Timing matters because of this. If you want to cancel an annual plan without losing the money for the next year, do it inside that 30-day window after renewal. Miss it and you’re locked in for the rest of the term even though auto-renew is off.
If the Charges Don’t Stop
If you believe you were charged incorrectly, Backstage handles payment disputes by email at support@backstage.com. Submit a written request; the company generally processes valid disputes within 30 days. Keep your account open while a dispute is pending. If you close or deactivate it before resolution, Backstage will not pay out any amounts owed.7Backstage. Terms of Use for Platform Payments
Federal law gives you a separate backstop. Under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, you can stop a preauthorized recurring charge by notifying your bank or credit card company at least three business days before the next scheduled transfer.8Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1693e – Preauthorized Transfers Your bank may ask you to confirm an oral request in writing within 14 days. Use this only as a last resort when normal cancellation channels aren’t working, since it can complicate your relationship with the service.
Separately, since July 2025 the FTC’s “click-to-cancel” rule has required subscription businesses to make canceling about as easy as signing up, and to provide a mechanism that immediately halts charges.9Federal Trade Commission.
