How to Cancel Brightside: Move Funds, Stop Payroll, Delete Data

To cancel Brightside, email clientservices@gobrightside.com and ask to terminate your account, or call (855) 940-1507 and request closure by phone.1Brightside. Terms of Service2Brightside. Contact – Support Either method works on its own. The closure itself is quick, but because Brightside is an employer-provided benefit tied to payroll, bank accounts, and sometimes a Spending Account balance, there are a few follow-ups worth handling in the right order.

Send the Cancellation Request

In your email, include your full name, the email address on your Brightside profile, and a direct statement that you want to close the account. If you prefer to speak with someone, the support line connects you to Brightside’s team, and the Brightside app also routes you to a dedicated Financial Assistant who can process the request or escalate it internally.2Brightside. Contact – Support

Ask for written confirmation and save it. Note the date, the name of anyone you spoke with, and any reference number you receive. If a stray charge or deduction surfaces later, that record is what resolves it fastest.

Move Money Out of Your Spending or Savings Account First

If you have a Brightside Spending Account (used for early paycheck access) or a Savings Account, transfer the balance to your external bank before you send the cancellation request. Brightside’s terms of service note that when your employment situation changes, the company may begin charging a monthly fee on the Spending Account, and if you don’t authorize that fee, Brightside can close the account and mail you a check for the remaining balance.1Brightside. Terms of Service Waiting for a paper check is slower than pulling the money yourself, and small balances left behind can eventually end up with your state’s unclaimed property office.

Stop Payroll Deductions Through Your Employer

Brightside is a benefit your employer selected and made available to you, not a subscription you opened on your own.3Brightside. Employee Wellbeing Solutions – Brightside Financial Care That matters because any payroll deductions set up for loan repayments or savings contributions run through your paycheck, not through Brightside’s app. Canceling your account alone will not necessarily stop them.

Contact your HR or payroll team and confirm that every Brightside-related deduction has been removed. If you are leaving the company, fold Brightside into your offboarding checklist alongside your other benefits so the Spending Account fee doesn’t start the moment your employment ends.1Brightside. Revoke the Plaid Connection to Your Bank

Closing your Brightside account does not automatically sever the data link to your bank. Brightside, like many financial apps, uses Plaid to connect to checking and savings accounts, and that connection can remain active unless you remove it yourself.

Log into the Plaid Portal at my.plaid.com, open the “Accounts” tab, select the bank you linked to Brightside, choose “Delete from Plaid,” and type “delete” to confirm.4Plaid Consumer Help Center. How Do I Delete Financial Accounts From the Plaid Portal If you use Plaid with other apps and only want to cut Brightside off, open the Portal’s “Overview” tab, pick Brightside, and choose “Disconnect app” instead.5Plaid Consumer Help Center. How Do I Disconnect My Financial Accounts From an App Either action stops future data sharing. Neither deletes what Brightside has already collected.

Ask Separately for Your Personal Data to Be Deleted

Account closure and data deletion are two different requests. Brightside’s privacy policy states that after you close your account, the company may retain certain information for analytics, fraud prevention, fee collection, and legal compliance.6Brightside. Privacy Policy If you want your financial history and personal details removed, you need to ask.

Send a written deletion request to clientservices@gobrightside.com and keep a timestamped copy. California residents can invoke the California Consumer Privacy Act, which requires a business to respond to a deletion request within 45 calendar days, with one possible 45-day extension if the business notifies you.7State of California Department of Justice. California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) Several other states have passed similar laws; cite yours if it applies. Even without a state law, a written request creates a record that you asked.
