How to Cancel Carfax Subscription: Apple, Google Play, PayPal, and Bank

To cancel a Carfax subscription, go to the channel that set up the billing: Carfax’s online support form if you bought directly on carfax.com, the Apple App Store if you subscribed on an iPhone, Google Play if you subscribed on Android, or PayPal if that’s your payment method. Carfax does not take cancellations by phone, and canceling inside the Carfax app itself won’t stop charges billed through an app store. One thing to check first: most Carfax consumer purchases are one-time report packages, not recurring subscriptions, so there may be nothing to cancel at all.

Check Where the Charge Is Coming From

Pull up your bank or credit card statement before you do anything else. If you see a single Carfax charge and nothing since, you bought a report pack as a one-time transaction and there is no subscription to end. If you see the same charge repeating monthly or yearly, look at the descriptor. A charge from Apple or Google means the subscription lives in the App Store or Google Play. A charge from PayPal means an automatic payment agreement is active there. A charge directly from Carfax means you signed up on the website.

That descriptor tells you which of the paths below to use. Canceling in the wrong place does nothing.

Cancel Directly Through Carfax

If you signed up on carfax.com, there is no self-service cancel button in your account. Log in, then go to support.carfax.com, choose “Contact Us,” and select “Billing / refund” as the topic so the request routes to the right team.1CARFAX Customer Support Center. Request a Refund Describe what you want canceled and include the email address on your account. A representative replies by email. Watch your inbox, because everything happens in writing.

Cancel Through the Apple App Store

If you subscribed through the Carfax iOS app, Apple controls the billing and you have to cancel through Apple’s subscription manager. Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions.2Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple Find Carfax, open it, and tap Cancel Subscription. You keep access until the current billing period ends, and no new charges post after that. If Carfax isn’t in the list, the subscription isn’t billed through Apple and you need a different path.

Cancel Through Google Play

On Android, open Settings, tap Google, then your name, then Manage your Google Account. Tap “Payments & subscriptions” and choose “Manage subscriptions.”3Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play Select Carfax and tap Cancel subscription. As with Apple, you keep access until the current cycle ends. Uninstalling the Carfax app does not cancel anything; the charges keep coming.

Cancel a PayPal Automatic Payment

If your Carfax billing runs through PayPal, an automatic payment agreement can stay active on the PayPal side even if you stop using Carfax. Log into PayPal, go to Settings, click Payments, then open “Subscriptions and saved businesses” or “Automatic Payments.” Find Carfax and cancel the agreement.4PayPal. What Is an Automatic Payment and How Do I Update or Cancel One That closes the billing link between PayPal and Carfax.

Stop Payments Through Your Bank as a Last Resort

If cancellations through Carfax or the app store don’t take, your bank or credit union can block the charges. Call the bank, say you’ve revoked authorization for the company to pull automatic payments, and follow up in writing so there is a paper trail.5Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. How Do I Stop Automatic Payments From My Bank Account The bank may suggest a stop payment order. Any charge that posts after you’ve revoked authorization is unauthorized, and you can ask the bank to reverse it.

Try the merchant or app store first. A bank block doesn’t formally close your Carfax agreement and can leave you in a billing dispute.

Ask for a Refund

Carfax reviews refunds case by case. There is no guaranteed prorated refund for unused reports or partial periods. Use the same “Billing / refund” option on the support contact form and include the charge date and amount so the reviewer can find it quickly. Approved refunds take three to five business days to show up on your card or bank statement.1CARFAX Customer Support Center. Request a Refund File the request soon after the charge; waiting weakens the case.

Cancel Before You Delete the Account

Deleting your Carfax account is not the same as canceling billing, and the order matters. If you delete the account first, you permanently lose access to every report you paid for, along with saved vehicles, and you become ineligible for refunds.6CARFAX. How to Delete Your CARFAX Account Cancel the subscription, request any refund, and download or screenshot reports you want to keep. Only then delete the account. Carfax’s support page doesn’t explicitly say deletion stops recurring billing, so treat cancellation and deletion as two separate jobs.

Confirm the Cancellation Worked

Look for a confirmation email from Carfax or the app store and save it. That email is your proof if a charge shows up later. Check the Carfax account dashboard to see that the status reads canceled or inactive. Apple and Google also show the subscription as expired in their settings once it’s canceled.

Watch your statements for at least one full billing cycle after the cancellation date. If a charge posts that shouldn’t have, reply to Carfax billing support with your confirmation attached. For credit card charges, federal law lets you dispute a billing error directly with the card issuer.7Federal Trade Commission. Fair Credit Billing Act File the dispute in writing within 60 days of the statement date showing the charge. Between the merchant-level cancellation and a card dispute, you have two ways to stop charges that should have ended.
