To cancel a ChatPDF subscription, log into chatpdf.com, open your account settings, and click Manage Subscription to reach the Stripe billing portal, where you confirm the cancellation in a couple of clicks. That path only works if you signed up on the web. If you subscribed through the iPhone or iPad app, you have to cancel inside Apple’s subscription settings; if you subscribed through the Android app, you cancel inside Google Play. Charges keep renewing until you cancel at whichever source is actually billing you.
Before you start, check your credit card statement or original receipt. A charge listed as “Apple.com/bill” or coming from Google Play means the ChatPDF website cannot stop it, no matter how many times you click cancel there.
Cancel on the ChatPDF Website
Sign in at chatpdf.com using the same method you originally used to register. If you signed up with Google, use Google; if you used email and password, use that. Logging in the wrong way lands you on a separate profile with no visible subscription, which is a common source of confusion. Your original signup confirmation email will show which method you used.
Once you’re in, open account settings and click Manage Subscription. That button redirects you to a billing portal hosted by Stripe, the payment processor ChatPDF uses for web transactions. Inside the portal, select cancel, confirm when prompted, and pick a cancellation reason if the portal asks for one. The recurring charge stops after that.
Cancel Using the Stripe Receipt Email
When you first upgraded, Stripe emailed you a payment receipt with a direct link to the same billing portal. Search your inbox for “Stripe” or “ChatPDF receipt,” open the receipt, and click the billing management link. You’ll land on the subscription page without touching the ChatPDF dashboard. This is the fastest route if you’ve lost your login or the settings page won’t load.
Cancel Through Apple’s App Store
The iOS app sells a separate subscription called ChatPDF Premium, available as weekly, monthly, or yearly auto-renewals, and Apple controls that billing. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. Find ChatPDF, tap it, and tap Cancel Subscription. Scroll down if you don’t see the button. Red expiration text means the subscription is already cancelled.1Apple. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
This is the single most common reason people think a cancellation didn’t work. They cancel on the website, but the charges keep coming because Apple, not ChatPDF, is billing them.
Cancel Through Google Play
If you subscribed through the Android app, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, and select Subscriptions. Find ChatPDF, tap it, and cancel before the next renewal date. Cancelling on the ChatPDF website will not affect a Google Play subscription.
What Happens After You Cancel
You’ll get a confirmation email. Save it. If a charge shows up on your statement after that date, the email is your proof that billing should have stopped.
Your Plus features stay active through the end of the billing period you already paid for. When that period ends, the account reverts to the free tier, which allows two document analyses per day.2ChatPDF. ChatPDF AI – Chat With Any PDF – Free Your account itself isn’t deleted, and any prior chat history may still be visible when you log back in.
If you want the data gone rather than just downgraded, look for a Delete Account or Delete Data option in your settings. ChatPDF’s published documentation doesn’t spell out a data retention timeline, so delete any sensitive uploads yourself before or shortly after you cancel.
Refunds
ChatPDF generally treats purchases as final and non-refundable. Cancelling in the middle of a billing cycle doesn’t produce a prorated refund for the days you won’t use. You have stronger grounds to dispute a charge if you were billed after cancelling or without clear disclosure of the subscription terms.
For a web subscription, contact ChatPDF support directly. For an App Store or Google Play subscription, file the refund request through Apple or Google, since they processed the payment.
If the Cancellation Process Fails
The FTC’s updated negative option rule, known as the Click-to-Cancel rule, requires that cancelling a subscription be at least as easy as signing up. A service that took a few clicks to join can’t force you into a phone call or a long chat to leave. The rule also requires businesses to clearly disclose the cost, frequency, and cancellation method before billing, and to get your informed consent separately from other terms.3Federal Trade Commission. ChatPDF’s Stripe-based flow appears to comply. If a service ever makes cancellation unreasonably hard, you can file a complaint at ftc.gov. Federal law also lets you stop any preauthorized electronic fund transfer by notifying your bank at least three business days before the scheduled charge.4Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 U.S. Code 1693e – Preauthorized Transfers Treat that as a last resort when the normal cancellation channels have failed.
