How to Cancel Chewy Autoship, Chewy+ Membership, or Account

Chewy uses the word “membership” for two different things: the free Autoship recurring-delivery program and Chewy+, the $79-a-year paid membership. Either can be canceled online in a few minutes, but there is a deadline that catches people out — you have until 12:00 AM the day before your next scheduled Autoship ships, and missing it means the charge goes through. Here is how to cancel a Chewy membership cleanly, whichever kind you have, and what to do if an order slipped past you.

Canceling an Autoship Subscription

Autoship is the free recurring delivery program that gives you a discount on scheduled orders.¹ To stop it from a browser:

Log into your Chewy account and open Manage Autoship under Your Account.
Select the specific Autoship you want to end.
Scroll to the bottom and click Cancel This Autoship.
Confirm when prompted.

Each Autoship is its own subscription. If you have recurring orders set up for, say, dog food and cat litter, canceling one does not touch the other. You have to repeat the process for each.²

Prefer to talk to someone? Chewy’s customer service line is 1-800-672-4399 and is staffed 24 hours a day.³ Canceling stops future shipments and the associated discount. It does not delete your account or remove your payment information.

The Deadline That Causes Accidental Charges

Chewy emails you before every upcoming Autoship order. You have until 12:00 AM the day before your scheduled ship date to cancel or edit it. After that, Chewy authorizes the charge and puts a hold on your payment method.³

So if an Autoship is set to ship Thursday, you need to cancel before midnight Tuesday night — the start of Wednesday. Wednesday afternoon is too late. At that point the order is already in motion and you are looking at a return, not a cancellation. Those pre-shipment emails are the countdown; treat them that way.

Canceling a Chewy+ Membership

Chewy+ is separate. It costs $79 per year after a 30-day free trial and includes free shipping with no order minimum, 5% back in rewards on eligible purchases, and member-only discounts.⁴ Having Chewy+ does not require Autoship, and having Autoship does not enroll you in Chewy+.

To cancel, log in, go to your membership settings, and choose the option to cancel or turn off auto-renewal. If you started the 30-day free trial and do not cancel before it ends, you will be billed the $79. If you can’t find the cancellation control in your settings, call 1-800-672-4399 and ask an agent to cancel it for you.⁵

If an Order Already Shipped

Missing the deadline is not a disaster. Chewy gives you 365 days from the date of purchase to return items, and return shipping is free. That covers opened pet food and litter, damaged goods, and even personalized products.⁶

When you request the return, you can send the refund back to your original payment method or take it as a credit on your Chewy account balance. If your original payment method has expired, the refund is issued to your account balance automatically.⁶

Prescription Items Work Differently

Canceling a pharmacy Autoship uses the same steps described above. Returning a prescription item that already shipped does not. Chewy’s return policy tells you to contact them directly for prescription returns rather than starting the process online. The Chewy Pharmacy number is 1-877-977-3879.⁶

Deleting Your Chewy Account

Canceling Autoship or Chewy+ leaves your account, order history, saved addresses, and payment methods in place. If you want the whole account removed, you can do that yourself:

Log in and open Settings & Preferences.
Scroll to Privacy Preferences.
Click Delete Your Information and Account.
Confirm when prompted.

Once the account is deleted, it cannot be recovered.⁷ Order history, saved prescriptions, and any Chewy account balance go with it. Cancel any active Autoships and spend down any credit before you delete.
