To cancel Cinemax on Roku, sign in at my.roku.com, open Manage Your Subscriptions, and turn off auto-renew next to Cinemax. You can also do it from your TV by highlighting the Cinemax tile, pressing the Star (*) button on your remote, choosing Manage Subscription, and selecting Turn Off Auto-Renew. Both routes take about two minutes. The catch: this only works if Roku is the party billing you. If you added Cinemax through Amazon Prime Video, Apple, or another platform, Roku’s menus won’t offer a cancel option, and you’ll have to cancel through that provider instead.
First, Check Who Is Actually Billing You
Go to my.roku.com/subscriptions and sign in. If Cinemax shows up in the list, Roku handles the billing and you can cancel from Roku. If it isn’t there, you subscribed through someone else and Roku can’t cancel it for you.1Roku Support. Manage or Cancel Subscriptions on Roku
Your bank statement is a second check. Charges routed through Roku appear as “Roku,” “Roku for ___,” or “The Roku Channel.” Charges from Amazon, Apple, or Cinemax directly tell you Roku isn’t the biller.1Roku Support. Manage or Cancel Subscriptions on Roku
Cancel From Your Roku Device
Fastest if you’re already in front of the TV.
- Use your remote to highlight the Cinemax tile on the home screen. Don’t open it.
- Press the Star (*) button to open the channel options menu.
- Select Manage Subscription. You’ll see your renewal date and billing details.
- Select Turn Off Auto-Renew and confirm.
The wording matters. Roku calls it “Turn off auto-renew,” not “Cancel” or “Unsubscribe.”1Roku Support. Manage or Cancel Subscriptions on Roku If that option doesn’t appear when you press Star, Roku almost certainly isn’t managing this subscription.
Cancel From the Roku Website
If you’re away from the TV or prefer a browser:
- Sign in at my.roku.com with your Roku credentials.
- Open Manage Your Subscriptions from the account dashboard.
- Locate Cinemax in the list of active subscriptions.
- Click the cancellation option next to it and confirm.
Roku may show a retention offer or a feedback prompt before finalizing. You can skip past both.1Roku Support. Manage or Cancel Subscriptions on Roku The confirmation page shows the date your access ends. Screenshot it.
If You Signed Up Through Amazon or Another Provider
This trips up most people. If you added Cinemax as a channel through Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, or another streaming platform, that provider owns the billing relationship. Roku can’t cancel it because the subscription doesn’t exist in Roku’s system.1Roku Support. Manage or Cancel Subscriptions on Roku
For Amazon Prime Video add-ons, go to amazon.com/gp/video/subscriptions/manage, sign in, find Cinemax, and cancel there. For other providers, visit their account settings or contact their support. Roku keeps a directory of provider support pages at support.roku.com.
A few services are special cases even when Roku bills you: Disney+, Hulu, and Sling TV must be canceled through the provider directly.1Roku Support. Manage or Cancel Subscriptions on Roku Cinemax is not on that list, so if Roku is billing you, Roku’s cancel option applies.
Free Trials Convert Automatically
If you started a Cinemax free trial through Roku, cancel before the trial ends or you’ll be charged for the first paid cycle.1Roku Support. Manage or Cancel Subscriptions on Roku
Turning off auto-renew during the trial doesn’t cut your access short. You keep watching until the trial period ends.1Roku Support. Manage or Cancel Subscriptions on Roku The safest move if you already know you don’t want to keep the service is to cancel right after signing up and finish out the trial.
What Happens After You Cancel
Access continues through the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for.2Roku. Roku Content and Subscription Refund Policy If your next renewal is two weeks away, you have two more weeks of Cinemax.
Refunds are not part of the deal. Roku’s policy states that subscription charges are prepaid, final, and non-refundable, with no partial refunds for mid-cycle cancellations.2Roku. Roku Content and Subscription Refund Policy That’s why the renewal date matters. Cancel a day or two before it, not after. Once a new cycle bills, that payment stays with Roku even if you cancel seconds later.
