To cancel your Claude Code subscription, go to the billing settings of the account you used to subscribe: Anthropic’s own settings if you signed up on the web or desktop app, the App Store if you subscribed on iPhone or iPad, or Google Play if you subscribed on Android. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, so Claude Code keeps working until that date.1Claude Help Center. How Do I Cancel My Paid Claude Subscription
Check Your Plan and Where You Signed Up
Claude Code is bundled into the paid consumer plans. Pro runs $20 per month; Max 5x is $100 per month and Max 20x is $200 per month.2Claude Help Center. What Is the Max Plan A separate group of developers uses Claude Code through prepaid API credits on console.anthropic.com, which isn’t a monthly subscription at all.3Claude Help Center. Where you signed up matters just as much. Subscriptions bought through Apple’s App Store or Google Play have to be cancelled through those stores, not through Anthropic. If you’re unsure, dig up the original receipt email.
Cancel on the Web or Desktop App
Log into claude.ai in a browser or open the Claude Desktop app. Click your initials in the lower-left corner, choose Settings, open the Billing section, and click Cancel.1Claude Help Center. How Do I Cancel My Paid Claude Subscription
A few prompts will ask why you’re leaving. Answer or skip. Confirm on the final screen and your subscription is set to end when the current billing cycle closes. Paid features, Claude Code included, keep working until then.
Cancel on iOS
Open the Claude app on your iPhone or iPad, tap your initials in the top-right corner, tap Billing, then Manage subscription, and follow the prompts.4Claude Help Center. How Can I Cancel My Claude Pro Subscription on the Claude App for iOS If you’ve already deleted the app, cancel through your Apple account using Apple’s subscription management instructions.1Claude Help Center. Cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date so you aren’t charged for another cycle.
Cancel on Android
Open the Claude app, tap your initials in the top-right corner, tap Billing, select Manage subscription, and follow the prompts.1Claude Help Center. How Do I Cancel My Paid Claude Subscription If the app is gone from your phone, cancel through the Google Play Store’s subscription management page instead. Same timing rule: give yourself at least 24 hours before the next billing date.
Cancel a Team Plan
Only an Owner or Primary Owner can cancel a Team plan. Regular members can’t. If you have the right role, go to Organization Settings, then Billing, and follow the cancellation steps from there.5Claude Help Center. Cancel Your Organization’s Team Plan Subscription If you’re a regular member who just wants your own access to stop, ask the Owner to remove your seat.
Enterprise plans typically run on custom contracts, so cancellation usually means contacting Anthropic’s sales team rather than clicking a button.
Stop API-Based Claude Code Billing
If you use Claude Code through API credits on console.anthropic.com, there’s no recurring subscription to cancel. Credits are prepaid.3Claude Help Center. How Do I Pay for My Claude API Usage What you want to turn off is auto-recharge, which buys more credits when your balance drops below a threshold. Open the billing settings in the console and either disable auto-recharge or set your spending limit low enough that it never triggers. Any credits already on your account stay there and don’t expire.
Can You Get a Refund
Anthropic’s default position is that payments are non-refundable except where the consumer terms of service or applicable law require otherwise.6Claude Help Center. Requesting a Refund for a Paid Claude Plan
If you think you qualify, the process depends on where you paid:
- Web or desktop: open the support messenger in your account, select Claude Refund Request, and follow the eligibility prompts.
- iOS: Anthropic doesn’t handle these payments. Request the refund through Apple Support.
- Android: Anthropic’s support team can review active subscriptions, but past payments on cancelled subscriptions have to go through Google Support.
One catch worth knowing: if you’ve already filed a payment dispute with your bank, Anthropic can’t issue a refund until you resolve or withdraw the dispute, because the disputed funds are pulled back right away.6Claude Help Center. Requesting a Refund for a Paid Claude Plan
What Happens After You Cancel
Claude Code and the rest of your paid features stay active through the end of the current billing period.1Claude Help Center. How Do I Cancel My Paid Claude Subscription After that, your account drops to the free tier. The free tier doesn’t include Claude Code, so terminal coding sessions will stop working, though you’ll keep access to Claude’s free chat and your conversation history.7Claude Help Center. What Is the Pro Plan
Cancelling doesn’t delete your account or your data. Conversations, projects, and code snippets stay in place. Account deletion is a separate step, and Anthropic won’t let you delete an account that still has an active subscription. You’d have to cancel, wait for the billing period to end, then go to Settings, Account, and choose Delete Account.8Anthropic Privacy Center. Deleting Claude Accounts
Export Your Data First If You Need It
If you want a local copy of your conversations and code, export before you cancel. On the web app or Claude Desktop, click your initials in the lower-left corner, go to Settings, open the Privacy section, and click Export data. Anthropic processes the export and emails you a download link. The link expires after 24 hours and only works while you’re signed in.9Claude Help Center. How Can I Export My Claude Data
Exports aren’t available in the iOS or Android apps, so you’ll need a browser or the desktop app even if you normally use Claude on your phone. Run the export while the paid plan is still active so nothing is cut off mid-way.
