How to Cancel Club Pilates Membership: Fees, Freezes, and SCRA

To cancel a Club Pilates membership, give written notice to the specific studio where you signed up, at least 30 days before your next billing date, and keep a dated copy of everything you submit. You can cancel at any time, but Club Pilates will not refund any portion of your current billing period, and because every location is an independently owned franchise, the exact notice period, fees, and acceptable cancellation methods come from the agreement you signed, not from corporate.1Club Pilates. Read Your Agreement Before You Do Anything Else

The membership agreement you signed at enrollment is the controlling document. Club Pilates’ own help page tells members to “refer to your state’s membership agreement addendum” or contact the local studio for cancellation details, which confirms there is no single nationwide policy.1Club Pilates. Three things in that contract decide what cancellation costs you:

  • The notice period. Most studios require 30 days before your next billing date. Notify them five days before a bill drops and the next month will still run.
  • The initial commitment term. Some agreements lock you in for a fixed number of months, and ending the contract early can trigger a termination fee.
  • The auto-renewal clause. Club Pilates memberships automatically renew for successive periods after the initial term, and the studio keeps billing your payment method at the start of each new interval until you formally cancel.2Club Pilates. Terms of Use

If you don’t have your copy, ask the front desk. Studios have to give you one, and many state health club laws require it at the time of signing.

How to Submit the Cancellation

Club Pilates’ terms of use list three channels: your account page on the Club Pilates website, your local studio directly, or an email to operations@clubpilates.com.2Club Pilates. Terms of Use Which one you use depends on where you originally signed up.

If You Signed Up at the Studio

The Club Pilates GO License Agreement is explicit: “If you purchased in a studio location, you must return to the studio location where you purchased it to cancel.”3Club Pilates. Club Pilates GO License Agreement Walk in, ask for the cancellation form, fill it out, and request a signed and dated copy. That copy is your evidence that the notice clock started, and it is what you will produce if a charge hits your account afterward.

If an in-person visit is not possible, send a written cancellation request by certified mail with return receipt. Address it to the studio manager and include your full name, membership ID, and the effective cancellation date you are requesting. The tracking record and delivery signature establish when the studio received your notice.

If You Signed Up Online or Through the App

Members who bought a subscription through the Club Pilates website or app can cancel from the Account button at the top of the screen and follow the prompts.3Club Pilates. Either way, wait for a confirmation email before you consider it done. No confirmation email, no cancellation.

What You Will Still Owe

Club Pilates’ standard terms state that cancellation does not entitle you to a refund of any kind. You keep access to classes and amenities through the end of your current billing period.2Club Pilates. Terms of Use Cancel on the 10th of a cycle that runs the 1st through the 30th and you can still book classes through the 30th, but no money comes back for the unused days.

The notice period is where most members get surprised. If the studio requires 30 days and you give notice partway through a cycle, you may owe one more month while the notice runs out. That extra charge is almost always spelled out in the contract. Timing the request to land at least 30 days before the next billing date is what keeps it from happening.

Freezing Instead of Canceling

If the issue is a short-term one (injury, travel, a few lean months), a freeze keeps your spot and your current rate. Club Pilates allows freezes for up to three months at $35 per month, and the request has to go in at least 14 days before your next invoice date.1Club Pilates. Medical freezes are the one exception to the 14-day deadline. Club Pilates’ help page says medical freeze requests don’t need to meet the advance-notice requirement, but it doesn’t spell out what documentation the studio will want.1Club Pilates. Early Termination, Medical, and Relocation

If your agreement has a fixed-term commitment, canceling before the term ends usually involves a fee. The amount varies by studio and state, since many states cap what health clubs can charge for early cancellation, some as a percentage of the remaining balance and others as a flat dollar limit. The fee should be listed in your agreement; if it isn’t, that may itself be a problem under your state’s health club laws.

Most studios will waive or reduce the fee in two situations: a documented medical condition that prevents you from participating, or a relocation far enough from any Club Pilates location that attending is impractical. For medical cancellations, expect to produce a letter from a licensed physician. For relocation, expect to produce a signed lease or utility bill at the new address. The distance threshold and the exact paperwork vary by studio, so confirm the requirements before gathering anything.

Cooling-Off Period for Recent Sign-Ups

If you just signed up and already want out, your state’s cooling-off period may let you cancel penalty-free. Most states give health club members somewhere between three and five business days after signing to cancel and get a full refund. This right exists regardless of what the agreement says, because state consumer protection laws override contract terms. Your state attorney general’s office can confirm the exact window.

Active-Duty Military and the SCRA

Active-duty servicemembers have separate federal protections under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. If you receive orders to relocate or deploy for 90 days or more to a location that doesn’t support your membership, you can terminate the contract at any time after receiving those orders, and the studio cannot charge an early termination fee.4MyArmyBenefits. Servicemembers Civil Relief Act Dependents can also cancel if the servicemember is a beneficiary on the contract and would qualify on their own. Give the studio a copy of your orders. If the studio pushes back, your installation’s legal assistance office handles SCRA disputes routinely.

Click-to-Cancel Gives You Leverage

A federal rule that took effect in 2025 requires businesses to make canceling a subscription or membership as easy as signing up. The FTC’s click-to-cancel rule applies to nearly all recurring-charge programs and requires sellers to provide “a simple mechanism to cancel” and stop billing immediately.5Federal Trade Commission. Federal Trade Commission Announces Final Click-to-Cancel Rule Making It Easier for Consumers to End Recurring Subscriptions and Memberships The compliance deadline for the cancellation-mechanism provisions was May 14, 2025.6Federal Register. Negative Option Rule

In practice, that means a studio that signed you up online has to let you cancel online. Hoops that are clearly harder than the signup process are what the rule was built to stop. Complaints go to ftc.gov/complaint.

When the Charges Don’t Stop

This is where the records pay off. If a charge appears after your cancellation should have taken effect, start at the studio with your signed cancellation receipt or certified mail confirmation and ask billing to reverse it. Most of the time it is an administrative error and gets fixed on the spot.

If the studio refuses or stops responding, there are two escalation paths. First, dispute the charge with your bank or credit card issuer. Federal law gives you 60 days from the date of the billing statement to initiate a dispute. For credit cards, the issuer has to investigate, and you aren’t responsible for the charge during the investigation. That protection is the reason to put recurring gym dues on a credit card rather than a debit card or direct bank draft.

Second, file a complaint with your state attorney general’s consumer protection division. Health club billing is one of the most common complaint categories these offices handle, and a letter from the AG tends to produce a faster response than another call to the studio. You can also file with the FTC, which tracks patterns across franchise systems even if it doesn’t resolve individual cases. Keep every receipt, every email, and every bank statement showing the disputed charges.
