How to Cancel Flex Rent: Deadline, Steps, and Balance

To cancel Flex Rent, open the app, go to Settings, tap Membership, and choose Cancel Membership, then confirm on the next screen. Do it at least two days before the end of the current month. Miss that window and Flex charges the next $14.99 membership fee and may submit your rent for the following month, pulling you into another split cycle.1Flex. Canceling Your Membership Any outstanding balance stays yours after cancellation.

The Two-Day Deadline

Flex requires cancellation at least two days before the end of the current month.1Flex. Canceling Your Membership If your rent is due on the first and you try to cancel on January 31, you are already too late for February. Aim for three or four days before month-end to give yourself a buffer.

Before you start, check whether Flex has already submitted your first payment for the current month. If it has, you still owe the remaining installments. Canceling does not erase that.

Steps in the App

Cancellation happens inside the Flex app. No phone call, no email, no separate form.

  • Open the app and tap the menu icon, then Settings or your account/profile section.
  • Inside Settings, open the Membership tab. It shows your current status, billing date, and active rent cycle.
  • Tap Cancel Membership. Flex asks you to select a reason for leaving.
  • Confirm on the final screen. The app shows a confirmation message and sends a confirmation email.1Flex. Canceling Your Membership

Save the confirmation email. If a charge is disputed later, that email is your proof of when you canceled. If the in-app flow fails, Flex offers support through the in-app chatbot.2Flex Partners. Resident Account Cancellation

Your Outstanding Balance

Flex is a line of credit. When it pays your full rent at the start of the month and you repay in installments, you have borrowed money. Canceling does not wipe that balance. Flex still collects the remaining amount on your regular scheduled payment date.1Flex. Canceling Your Membership

Make sure the linked bank account has enough money for the final withdrawal. If the payment fails, or you cancel with a balance and never pay, the debt goes to collections.3Flex Partners. Resident Account Management A collections entry sits on your credit report for years and can hurt future rental applications, so ignoring a few hundred dollars in remaining balance is a costly mistake.

Pay Your Landlord Directly After You Cancel

Once your membership ends, your rent can no longer be submitted through Flex. You are immediately responsible for paying your property directly.1Flex. Canceling Your Membership If your property manager had been receiving rent through Flex’s integration, set up a new payment method before your next due date.4Flex Partners. Using Flex Rent as an Independent Property Manager

Ask your landlord how they accept direct payments. Many use portals like AppFolio, RentCafe, or an in-house system. The worst outcome is canceling on the 28th, assuming rent is handled, then discovering on the 3rd that nobody received it. Late fees from your landlord are a separate problem from anything Flex charges, and your lease still applies.

The Membership Fee After Cancellation

The $14.99 monthly membership fee stops being charged going forward once you cancel.1Flex. Canceling Your Membership Flex does not refund or prorate the fee for a month already billed. There is no separate termination or account closure fee, so the only thing you might still owe after cancellation is the remaining balance from your most recent rent split.

Skip a Month Instead of Canceling

If you are not sure you want to leave for good, you can turn off rent autopay in the app. That stops Flex from automatically submitting your first payment for the upcoming month while keeping your line of credit open.1Flex. Canceling Your Membership You still pay the $14.99 monthly membership fee during months you skip.5Flex. Flexible Rent Payments

Skipping fits if you are between leases or just do not need the split this month. Full cancellation fits if you are done with the service or want the monthly fee to stop hitting your account.

What Cancellation Means for Your Credit

Flex’s rent reporting is opt-in and only sends on-time, fully paid rent to TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax.6Flex. How Flex Rent Affects Your Credit Score If you never turned it on, closing the account has minimal direct impact on your credit file. If you did have it on, that tradeline stops receiving new data after cancellation. What actually damages credit here is letting an outstanding balance go to collections, not the closure itself.

Re-Enrolling Later

You can reapply in the app by tapping Re-apply on the Home screen. There is no published waiting period, and re-enrollment runs a new credit check. If you are denied, Flex sends an Adverse Action notice explaining why.7Flex. Reapplying for Flex Rent A previous account that ended in collections will likely work against you.
