To cancel Google AI Pro, sign in at one.google.com, open Settings, and click “Cancel membership.” The whole process takes about two minutes, and your Gemini Advanced features and 5 TB of storage stay active through the end of the billing cycle you’ve already paid for. The catch is that “cancel through Google” only works if Google is the one billing you. If you subscribed on an iPhone or through a wireless carrier, the cancel button lives somewhere else.
Check Who’s Actually Billing You
Look at your credit card or bank statement before you do anything. If the charge comes from Google, cancel through the Google One website or the Google Play Store. If it comes from Apple, cancel in your iPhone settings. If a wireless carrier such as Metro by T-Mobile bundles the plan into your phone bill, the cancellation runs through the carrier.
Also confirm you’re signed in to the right Google account. People with multiple profiles sometimes cancel the wrong one and keep getting charged. And if you’re on a family plan, only the plan manager can cancel — members can’t.
Cancel on a Computer
Go to one.google.com and sign in. Click Settings, then “Cancel membership.”1Google Help. Cancel Your Google One Membership A confirmation screen shows what you’re giving up. Click “Cancel membership” again to finalize.
You’ll see an on-screen confirmation and get an email receipt.2Google One Help. Purchase, Cancellation and Refund Policies Save that email. If another charge hits your statement later, it’s the proof you need to dispute it.
Cancel on Android
If you subscribed inside the Google Play Store, the Google One website won’t let you cancel — you have to go back through Play. Open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, and select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Tap the Google One entry and choose “Cancel subscription.”3Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play Follow the prompts and you’re done.
Cancel on iPhone
Apple handles all subscription management through its own system, so the Google One app and website can’t cancel a plan Apple is billing for. Open Settings, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions.4Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple Select the Google One or Gemini entry and follow the prompts. The change takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Cancel a Carrier-Bundled Plan
Some wireless carriers include Google One as a perk or add-on, and those plans don’t always cancel through the standard Google or app store paths. If the usual routes don’t show your subscription, go to myaccount.google.com/deleteservices, sign in, select Google One, and cancel there.1Google Help. Cancel Your Google One Membership
One important exception: Metro by T-Mobile customers lose all plan benefits the moment they cancel, rather than keeping access through the end of the billing period.1Google Help. Cancel Your Google One Membership Finish any downloads or backups first.
Pause Instead of Cancel
If you just need a break from the monthly charge, Google Play offers a pause option for some subscriptions. Pausing starts at the end of your current billing cycle and can last from one week to three months, depending on the subscription.3Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play Open your Play Store subscriptions, select the plan, and look for “Pause payments.” Not every subscription has it, but when it’s there, your storage and settings stay intact during the pause window, and you can resume any time.
Pausing only works through Google Play. Apple- and carrier-billed subscribers have to cancel outright.
What Happens After You Cancel
Cancellation doesn’t cut you off immediately. You keep 5 TB of storage, Gemini Advanced, and the AI features in Gmail, Docs, and other Workspace tools until your current billing period ends.5Google One. Google AI Plans With Cloud Storage Then your account drops to the free 15 GB tier.1Google Help. Cancel Your Google One Membership
That drop is where problems start. Most people on a 5 TB plan are using more than 15 GB across Gmail, Drive, and Photos combined, which means they land over quota the moment the plan expires. Over-quota accounts can’t send or receive email, upload files to Drive, create new Docs or Sheets, or back up photos.1Google Help. Cancel Your Google One Membership Existing files stay put at first, but if you remain over 15 GB for two years, Google may permanently delete content from Drive and Gmail.
Family Members
If you’re the family manager, canceling affects everyone in the group. All family members lose the shared storage and revert to their own 15 GB free allowance, along with member benefits like Google experts support.1Google Help. Cancel Your Google One Membership Anyone leaning on that shared space could suddenly be over quota themselves. Give them warning before you cancel.
Get Your Data Out First
Download anything you want to keep before the billing period ends. Google Takeout at takeout.google.com exports data from Drive, Photos, Gmail, and other services in bulk. Prioritize what’s hardest to replace: photos, important email threads, shared documents. Once your account is below 15 GB or everything critical is copied locally, the downgrade is painless.
Refunds
Google’s standard policy is that storage plan purchases are non-refundable. You keep access through the end of the billing period, but unused days don’t come back as money.2Google One Help. Purchase, Cancellation and Refund Policies The Gemini subscription terms say the same: no refunds for partial billing periods except where local law requires it.6Google. Google AI Pro and Ultra — Get Access to Gemini 3.1 Pro and More
A few situations sit outside that rule. If someone made the purchase without your knowledge, you have 120 days from the transaction date to report it through Google Play.7Google Play Help. Request a Refund on Google Play If you subscribed through an iPhone, refund requests go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, not Google.8Apple Support. Request a Refund for Apps or Content That You Bought From Apple And subscribers in some jurisdictions, including EU member states and Israel, may be entitled to prorated refunds under local consumer protection laws.2Google One Help. Purchase, Cancellation and Refund Policies
Since partial refunds usually aren’t on offer, there’s no financial upside to canceling right after a renewal. If you know you want out, cancel closer to the end of your cycle and use the paid time you already have.
