To cancel iPostal1, log in, open Mailbox Settings, and click Cancel Mailbox (or use Account Settings then Delete Location in the mobile app). Do it before your next billing date so the subscription doesn’t auto-renew. The clicks are the easy part. What matters more is what you do first: download your scanned mail, pay any outstanding balance, and confirm the forwarding address on file, because the moment cancellation goes through you lose access to the platform and your mail data is deleted.1iPostal1. Do These Things Before You Cancel
Once your account is marked “Cancelled,” iPostal1 removes your access to the platform and your scanned mail permanently. There is no way to retrieve it later through the service.1iPostal1. Terms of Service Go through your mail history and save PDFs of anything you might need: tax correspondence, contracts, legal notices, receipts.
Pay any outstanding balance. iPostal1’s terms require you to promptly pay any fees owed on the account before closure.1iPostal1. Terms of Service Check for scanning fees, package storage, and the current month’s subscription.
Confirm the forwarding address on your USPS Form 1583. Postal rules require the mail center to remail your incoming mail to that address for at least six months after cancellation, so an outdated address means your forwarded mail bounces.2United States Postal Service. DMM 508 Recipient Services Ask your mail center to update it before you cancel.
Before you close anything, use your still-active account to build a list of every sender who mails you. That list disappears with your access.

What Happens to Mail That Keeps Arriving
Mail doesn’t stop the day you cancel. Federal postal regulations require the mail center to accept and remail your incoming mail for at least six months after termination, using the forwarding address on your Form 1583.2United States Postal Service. DMM 508 Recipient Services
iPostal1’s terms describe the situation differently. By canceling, you authorize the mail center not to forward mail received after closure and to accept and destroy any unsolicited mail.1iPostal1. Terms of Service The USPS Domestic Mail Manual does let a customer give written instructions that certain kinds of mail not be remailed, but those instructions cannot direct the CMRA to refuse mail or return it to sender during the six-month period.4United States Postal Service. DMM 508 Recipient Services The practical takeaway is that you should not count on everything being forwarded. Treat cancellation as a hard cutoff and change your address everywhere first.
After the six-month window, First-Class Mail and Priority Mail arriving in your name get returned to the Post Office noting the CMRA has no authorization to receive it.2United States Postal Service. Changing Your Address With Senders
You cannot file a standard USPS Change of Address from a CMRA address. USPS prohibits it.5United States Postal Service. Change of Address – The Basics There is no automatic postal forwarding to fall back on. You have to contact each sender.
Start with the ones where a missed piece of mail causes real harm: banks, credit card issuers, insurance carriers, the IRS, your state tax authority, and any court or agency that sends legal notices. Then move to the softer list, like subscriptions, retailers, and professional memberships. Canceling also immediately voids the USPS Form 1583 that authorized the mail center to receive mail for you.1iPostal1. Terms of Service
If Your iPostal1 Address Was a Business Address
If your iPostal1 address is on your tax filings, your business registration, or your registered agent record, cancellation creates compliance work.
Businesses with an EIN file IRS Form 8822-B to notify the IRS of a changed mailing address. The form has no specific deadline for address-only changes, but a change in the identity of a responsible party must be reported within 60 days.6Internal Revenue Service. About Form 8822-B, Change of Address or Responsible Party – Business If the IRS mails a notice of deficiency or demand for tax to an outdated address, penalties and interest keep running whether you saw the notice or not.7Internal Revenue Service. If iPostal1 was your LLC’s or corporation’s registered agent address, update the state filing right away. If a process server tries to deliver a lawsuit at an address that no longer accepts your mail, the plaintiff may be granted substituted service, and a default judgment can follow because you never learned about the case. Updating a registered agent with the secretary of state usually means a formal filing and a state-specific fee.
State business registrations, professional licenses, and sales tax permits tied to the address all need updating too. Skipping these can trigger administrative penalties, loss of good standing, or involuntary dissolution in some states.
