To cancel iTunes Match, open your subscription settings on any Apple device, a Windows PC, or account.apple.com, select iTunes Match, and choose Cancel Subscription. The $24.99 annual plan renews automatically, so canceling before the next billing date is the only way to stop the charge. Your subscription stays active through the end of the period you already paid for, which gives you time to save any music sitting only in iCloud before access ends.
Download Your Music Before You Cancel
Songs already downloaded to a device stay with you after cancellation. Songs that live only in your iCloud Music Library will become unavailable once the subscription expires, and Apple reportedly keeps your cloud library for only about 30 days after that.
The safest move is to pull your entire iCloud library down to a computer first. In the Music app, or in iTunes on older systems, look for the cloud download icon next to songs and albums that haven’t been saved locally. Once the files are on your hard drive, they’re yours regardless of subscription status. Tracks that iTunes Match upgraded to 256kbps AAC are DRM-free and remain on your computer permanently after downloading.
Cancel on an iPhone or iPad
Open Settings, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find iTunes Match in the list, tap it, and tap Cancel Subscription.
If iTunes Match isn’t there, you may be signed into a different Apple Account than the one that originally subscribed. Check the email address shown under Settings, your name.
Cancel on a Mac
Open the App Store and click your name in the bottom-left corner. Click Account Settings at the top of the window and sign in again if prompted. Scroll to the Manage section and click Manage next to Subscriptions. Click Edit next to iTunes Match, then Cancel Subscription, and confirm.
Cancel on a Windows PC
Open iTunes, or the Apple Music app for Windows depending on your version. From the menu bar, choose Account, then View My Account. Scroll to the Settings section and click Manage next to Subscriptions. Find iTunes Match, click Edit, then Cancel Subscription.
Cancel Through a Web Browser
If you don’t have an Apple device or a Windows PC with iTunes installed, go to account.apple.com in any browser, sign in with your Apple Account, and follow the on-screen steps to manage your subscriptions. This works from Android phones, Chromebooks, Linux machines, or any other device with a browser.
What Happens After You Cancel
Cancellation doesn’t cut off access right away. Your subscription runs through the end of the current annual billing period, and the subscription screen shows the exact expiration date. Until then, matched and uploaded songs remain available in iCloud, and you can stream or download them normally.
After the expiration date, your iCloud Music Library becomes inaccessible through the service. Songs you downloaded to a device stay put; anything left only in the cloud is gone. The subscription screen will show the expired status, and no further $24.99 charges will hit your payment method.
Requesting a Refund for a Recent Renewal
If iTunes Match auto-renewed before you caught it, you can ask Apple for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Sign in, select “Request a refund,” and choose the reason. Apple reviews requests individually and eligibility varies, but acting quickly after an unwanted charge gives you the best chance. Cancel the subscription separately using the steps above so it doesn’t renew again while the refund request is pending.
