How to Cancel LA Tan Membership: Submit, Confirm, Dispute Charges

To cancel an LA Tan membership, contact the salon where you signed up and submit your request in person, by phone at 877-GO-LATAN, through LA Tan’s online support ticket system, or by certified mail to the corporate office.1Latan. Contact LA Tan does not publish its cancellation terms on its website or FAQ, so your signed membership agreement is the only reliable source for the notice period, any early termination fee, and whether you’re locked into a fixed term.2Latan. Frequently Asked Questions Document every step. If charges continue after you cancel, federal law gives you separate tools to stop them through your bank or credit card issuer.

Four Ways to Submit the Cancellation

Pick whichever channel you can document.

  • In person. Go to the salon where you signed up and ask a manager to process the cancellation. Ask for a signed, dated copy of the cancellation form or a printed receipt before you leave.
  • By phone. Call 877-GO-LATAN. Write down the representative’s name, the date and time, and any confirmation number, and ask for an email confirmation.1Latan. Contact
  • Online ticket. Open a ticket at support.latan.com using the email on your account. The system generates a record of your submission; screenshot the confirmation page and save every reply.3L.A.TAN Help Desk. Support Center
  • Certified mail. Send a written cancellation request with return receipt requested to LA Tan’s corporate office at 3775 W. Arthur Ave., Lincolnwood, IL 60712. The return receipt proves the exact date LA Tan received your notice, which is what matters if a charge posts after that date.1Latan. Contact

Whichever channel you choose, have ready your full name as it appears on the agreement, your membership or account number, the salon location where you signed up, the email on the account, and the cancellation date you want (lined up with your next billing cycle).

Read Your Agreement Before You Cancel

Your contract controls the outcome. Pull it out and check three things.

First, the notice period. Many tanning memberships require you to give notice some number of days before your next billing date. Cancel too close to that date and you’ll be billed for another month.

Second, whether you’re inside an initial term. Canceling before a fixed term ends often triggers an early termination fee. Some agreements charge a flat amount; others require you to pay out the remaining months at a discounted rate. LA Tan doesn’t publish these amounts, so your agreement (or a direct question to a salon manager) is the only way to find out what you’ll owe.

Third, any outstanding balance. If you owe unpaid dues, expect LA Tan to require you to settle up before processing the cancellation. An unresolved balance gives the company grounds to keep trying to collect and, in some cases, to refer the debt to a third-party collector. Paying it off at the time you cancel closes that door.

Keep Proof of the Cancellation

This is where most people get burned. You cancel, assume it’s handled, and a charge hits a month later. Documentation is the only thing between you and that charge.

Save the signed cancellation form or receipt from the salon, the phone-call notes and confirmation number, the ticket number and screenshots from the online system, and the certified mail return receipt. Keep all of it for at least a year after your final billing date. If LA Tan continues to charge you, these records are what you’ll attach to a bank dispute or chargeback.

If LA Tan Keeps Billing: Stop Payments at Your Bank

If charges continue after you’ve canceled, or you can’t get anyone to process the cancellation in the first place, federal law lets you shut off the money directly.

Under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, you can order your bank to stop any preauthorized recurring electronic transfer from your account. You must notify the bank at least three business days before the next scheduled payment date, and you can do it by phone or in writing.4Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1693e – Preauthorized Transfers

If you call, your bank can require you to send written confirmation within 14 days. Miss that follow-up and your stop-payment order lapses, and charges can resume. Once the order is in place, the bank must block all future payments to LA Tan, even if LA Tan resubmits the debit under a different amount or date.5Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. 1005.10 Preauthorized Transfers

One caution: a stop-payment order does not cancel your membership. It only blocks the transfers. If you block payments without formally canceling, LA Tan may still treat the account as active and accrue unpaid dues against it. Use the stop-payment as a shield alongside a cancellation request, not in place of one.

If LA Tan Charges a Credit Card: Dispute the Charge

If your membership bills to a credit card, the Fair Credit Billing Act gives you a different remedy. You can dispute a charge that appears after your cancellation by sending written notice to your card issuer’s billing inquiry address within 60 days of the statement date showing the charge.6Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1666 – Correction of Billing Errors

Your dispute letter should include your name, account number, the amount you’re disputing, and the reason. While the issuer investigates, you don’t have to pay the disputed amount, and the issuer cannot report you as delinquent for withholding it. The issuer must acknowledge the dispute within 30 days and resolve it within two billing cycles.7Federal Trade Commission. Using Credit Cards and Disputing Charges

A dispute is far stronger when you attach proof of cancellation: the signed form, the certified mail receipt, the ticket screenshot. Without it, the issuer may side with LA Tan.

When to Escalate

If you’ve canceled properly, saved your proof, and the charges still haven’t stopped, move up the ladder.

  • Call your bank or card issuer and use the federal rights above to block or dispute the charges.
  • File a complaint with the FTC at ftc.gov/complaint. The FTC’s 2024 click-to-cancel rule targets businesses that make cancellation significantly harder than sign-up, and complaints feed into its enforcement work.8Federal Trade Commission. Federal Trade Commission Announces Final Click-to-Cancel Rule
  • File a complaint with your state attorney general’s consumer protection division. LA Tan is headquartered in Illinois, which has its own automatic renewal law covering disclosure of cancellation procedures and renewal notices for longer-term contracts.
  • Consider small claims court if you’ve been charged a meaningful amount after a documented cancellation. Filing fees vary by jurisdiction and are generally modest enough to make this worthwhile for recurring billing disputes.

Every call, every email, every receipt. A company that will ignore a verbal cancellation has a much harder time ignoring a certified letter backed by a bank stop-payment order and a paper trail.
