How to Cancel McAfee Subscription and Get a Refund

To cancel a McAfee subscription, sign in at myaccount.mcafee.com, open Subscriptions, and click Cancel Auto-Renewal next to the plan you want to end. You can also call McAfee support at 1-866-622-3911, available 24/7. If you bought McAfee through the Apple App Store or Google Play, you have to cancel through that store instead, because McAfee doesn’t control the billing.1McAfee Support. Cancel Through Your McAfee Account

Most subscribers bought directly from McAfee, and for them the cancellation lives inside the account dashboard.1McAfee Support. Change or Cancel Auto-Renewal

  • Go to myaccount.mcafee.com and sign in with your email and password, a social login, or a one-time passcode.
  • Click Subscriptions.
  • Click Cancel next to the subscription you want to end.
  • Scroll down and click Cancel Auto-Renewal.

McAfee will run you through a few confirmation screens and probably offer a discount to stay. Click through to confirm. Your protection stays active until the end of the period you already paid for, so you don’t lose coverage the moment you cancel.

Not sure which email you used? Search your inbox for messages from donotreply@authentication.mcafee.com with the subject “Your McAfee Receipt.” That confirms which account holds the subscription.2McAfee Support. Spot and Report Fake McAfee Emails

Have your account email and order number ready. The representative will verify your identity, then process the cancellation. Ask for a confirmation number and write it down. If a charge shows up later that shouldn’t be there, that number is your proof. A confirmation email should also arrive within a day or two.

Expect a retention offer. That’s standard. If you’re set on canceling, say so clearly and they’ll process it.

Cancel Through Apple or Google

If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, McAfee can’t cancel it for you and its refund policy doesn’t apply. You have to cancel through the platform that bills you.4McAfee Support. McAfee Products Refund Policy

Apple

On a Mac, open the App Store, click your name in the bottom-left corner, then Account Settings. Under Manage, click Manage next to Subscriptions. Find McAfee, click Cancel Subscription, and confirm.5Apple. Cancel, Change, or Share Subscriptions in the App Store on Mac On an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, select McAfee, and tap Cancel.

Google

Open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile icon, then Payments and Subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Find McAfee and tap Cancel Subscription. If McAfee isn’t listed there, it’s billing you directly rather than through Google, and you’ll need to cancel through your McAfee account or by phone.

McAfee’s Refund Windows

Canceling stops future charges. Getting money back on a charge that already went through depends on when you act and how you bought. McAfee does not offer prorated refunds, so this is all-or-nothing.4McAfee Support. McAfee Products Refund Policy

  • New annual subscription: 30 days from your purchase date to request a full refund.
  • Auto-renewed annual subscription: 60 days from the renewal charge to request a full refund.6McAfee. McAfee Auto-Renewal FAQ
  • Monthly subscribers: not eligible for a refund. The 30-day money-back guarantee doesn’t apply to monthly plans.
  • Third-party purchases (app stores, retail, resellers): McAfee’s refund policy doesn’t apply; request the refund from the seller.

Shipping, handling, and tax charges are generally not refundable. To request a refund, call McAfee at 1-866-622-3911 or go through the support page.3McAfee. Contact McAfee Customer Service

If the Renewal Price Is Why You’re Canceling

Sticker shock at renewal is the usual trigger. Introductory pricing is heavily discounted, and when auto-renewal hits, you’re charged the regular rate, often two to three times what you originally paid. McAfee’s FAQ states you’re billed “the renewal term subscription price in effect at the time of renewal” and that “pricing is subject to change.”6McAfee. McAfee Auto-Renewal FAQ

Check your upcoming renewal price before it hits. Sign in at myaccount.mcafee.com, click Subscriptions, and look at the renewal price next to your plan. If the number surprises you, cancel before the charge posts. The 60-day refund window on auto-renewals gives you a cushion, but catching it beforehand saves the refund request.

Uninstalling Is Not Canceling

This is where people trip up. Removing the McAfee app from your computer does not cancel your subscription. The charges keep coming. Cancel the subscription first, then uninstall the software if you want it off the machine.7McAfee Support. How to Uninstall or Remove McAfee Software from a Windows PC

After You Cancel

Your protection continues until the end of the current billing period. After that date, the software stops receiving threat updates and stops actively scanning. Install alternative security software before that if you want continuous coverage.

Check your bank or credit card statement during the next billing cycle to confirm no new charges appear. If an unexpected charge shows up, call McAfee at 1-866-622-3911 with your cancellation confirmation number. For an auto-renewal charge you didn’t want, you have 60 days to request a full refund.6McAfee. McAfee Auto-Renewal FAQ

If McAfee won’t cooperate or you’ve missed the refund window, you can dispute the charge with your bank or revoke McAfee’s permission to take future automatic payments.
