To cancel Netflix, sign in at netflix.com, open your Account page, and look at the Membership section to see who bills you. If Netflix bills you directly, a Cancel Membership button will be right there. If a third party handles the charges (Apple, Google Play, or a cable or wireless provider), you have to cancel with them instead, because Netflix cannot stop a charge it does not control.
Check Who Actually Bills You
The Membership section of your Account page names your billing source. When Netflix runs the payment, you cancel on Netflix. When Apple, Google, Comcast, or T-Mobile runs it, Netflix points you to that partner and stops there.
This one detail decides the whole process. Canceling on the Netflix site does nothing about a charge that Apple or your cable company is collecting. Go to the company that processes the payment.
Cancel Directly on Netflix
For accounts Netflix bills, open your Account page and click Cancel Membership. A confirmation screen appears. Click Finish Cancellation. You will not be charged again unless you restart the account.
The mobile app works the same way. Tap your profile icon, go to Account, and follow the same steps. Netflix sends a confirmation email to the address on the account once you finish. Save it. If a charge appears later, that email is your proof of when you canceled.1Netflix. How to Cancel Netflix
Cancel Through Apple
If you subscribed through the App Store, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. Find Netflix and tap Cancel Subscription. If there is no cancel button and you see an expiration message in red, the subscription is already canceled.2Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple
Timing matters here. Apple requires you to cancel more than 24 hours before your next renewal date. Wait until the day of renewal and you may get charged for another month before the cancellation takes effect.3Netflix Help Center. Netflix Billing through Apple
Cancel Through Google Play
If you subscribed through the Google Play Store on Android, open the Play Store app, tap your profile icon, and go to Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Tap Netflix, then Cancel subscription. Google will confirm and show you when access ends.
Cancel Through a Cable or Wireless Provider
Some subscriptions come bundled with a cable or phone plan, and it is easy to forget that is how you’re paying. If Xfinity bundles Netflix into your package, contact Xfinity directly to remove it. The cancellation takes effect immediately, but watch for this: if you had a separate payment method on file with Netflix before the bundle, Netflix may start billing that card once the Xfinity-provided subscription ends. You would then need to cancel with Netflix separately to avoid a surprise charge.4Xfinity Support. Netflix on X1 FAQs
T-Mobile customers who receive Netflix as a plan perk follow a different path. If you drop to a T-Mobile plan that no longer includes Netflix, T-Mobile directs you to the Netflix Help Center to update your payment method or cancel outright.5T-Mobile Support. Netflix on Us The general rule for any bundled subscription: check with both the provider and Netflix so neither one keeps billing you.
Extra Member Slots Cancel Separately
If you added extra members to your account at $7.99 or $9.99 per month each, canceling the main subscription does not automatically cancel those slots. You can remove the person from the slot and still get charged for the empty slot itself unless you cancel it directly.6Netflix Help Center. Extra Members
Manage extra member slots from the same Account page, under the membership section. Remove the extra member or cancel the slot entirely. If you’re closing the whole account, check that no extra member charges are lingering on a separate line item.
What Happens After You Cancel
Access does not stop the moment you click cancel. Netflix lets you keep watching through the end of your current billing period. Cancel on the fifth day of a monthly cycle and you still have roughly 25 days left. There are no partial refunds for the unused portion.
Your profiles, viewing history, and preferences stay on Netflix’s servers after cancellation. Netflix’s privacy policy says it retains personal information “as required or permitted by applicable laws,” and the widely reported window is about ten months before an inactive account is automatically deleted.7Netflix Help Center. Deletion, Removal and Retention of Information Rejoin within that window and your profiles and watch history should still be there.
Prevent Accidental Reactivation
This catches people. After canceling, if you or someone in your household opens the Netflix app on a smart TV or phone and taps through the prompts, a Restart Membership screen may appear that is easy to click through without noticing. One tap and you are subscribed again, with a fresh charge on your card.
Sign out of Netflix on every device once you cancel. On your Account page, scroll down and select Sign out of all devices. Change your password too, especially if others in the household had access. Both steps take about thirty seconds and prevent a month or two of charges you did not mean to authorize.
