How to Cancel Netflix on Smart TV: Direct, Apple, Google, Roku

To cancel Netflix on your smart TV, open the Netflix app, go to your profile, select Account or Get Help, and choose Cancel Membership. That works only if Netflix bills you directly. If a third party such as Apple, Google, Roku, or your cable or mobile carrier handles the charge, the cancel option on your TV will point you to that partner instead, and you have to finish the cancellation there.

Check Who Bills You First

Before you touch anything, find out whether the charge comes from Netflix or from a partner. Open the Netflix app on your TV, go to your profile icon, and look for Account or Get Help. If Netflix handles billing, your payment method and a cancellation option appear right there. If a partner handles it, you’ll see a message telling you which one to contact.

You can confirm the same thing from a phone or laptop. Sign in at netflix.com and open the Membership section of your Account page. Netflix says you’ll see “either a link to guide you through the cancellation process or instructions to contact your payment partner to cancel.”1Netflix. How to Cancel Netflix Keep your account email and password within reach for whichever platform ends up handling it.

When Netflix Bills You Directly

This covers most subscribers. If you signed up on netflix.com or in the Netflix app and entered a card or PayPal yourself, Netflix is your billing party.

From the TV: open Netflix, go to your profile, select Account or Get Help, choose Cancel Membership, then confirm on the next screen by selecting Finish Cancellation.

From a browser: go to netflix.com, sign in, click your profile icon, select Account, click Cancel Membership, and confirm.

One warning worth taking seriously. Signing out of Netflix or deleting the app from your TV does not cancel your subscription. Netflix is explicit that going through the cancellation flow “is the only way to cancel your account and end your membership.”1Netflix. How to Cancel Netflix Uninstalling the app changes nothing on the billing side. The charges keep running until you finish the cancellation inside the account settings.

When a Third Party Bills You

If you subscribed through Apple, Google Play, Roku, or a carrier, Netflix can’t stop the charge on their end. You have to cancel with whoever collects the money. The Netflix app on your TV will name the partner when you look for the cancel option.

Apple

If you signed up through an Apple device or Apple TV, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. Find Netflix and tap Cancel Subscription. The same list is available at appleid.apple.com under Subscriptions.

Google Play

If you subscribed through an Android device, open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Select Netflix and choose Cancel subscription.

Roku

If you subscribed through a Roku device, open my.roku.com/subscriptions in a browser. Find Netflix under active subscriptions, select Manage subscription, and cancel there. Roku-billed subscriptions can’t be canceled from the Roku device itself.

Cable or Mobile Carrier

Some plans, including bundles through carriers like T-Mobile or Comcast, bill Netflix as part of a larger service. In that case, contact the carrier or sign into its account portal to remove Netflix from your plan. The Netflix app will point you to the right partner if this applies to you.

What Happens After You Cancel

Netflix sends a confirmation email to the address on the account as soon as the cancellation goes through.1Netflix. How to Cancel Netflix Save it. If a charge shows up later, that email is your proof.

Access doesn’t cut off right away. You can keep watching until the end of your current billing period, and the account closes automatically on that date.2Netflix Help Center. Charged After Canceling Netflix There’s no prorated refund for the remaining days. Netflix puts it plainly: “You won’t be charged again unless you restart your account.”1Netflix. Don’t Forget Extra Member Slots

If you’re paying for an extra member on your account (currently $7.99 or $9.99 per month depending on the plan), that charge does not automatically disappear when you cancel the main subscription. Remove the extra member slot separately before or during cancellation, or the billing for it can continue after your own access ends. Check your Account page for any active extra member add-ons before you confirm.

Why You Shouldn’t Just Block the Card

Skipping the cancellation and blocking the charge at your bank, or letting the card expire, is a worse option than it looks. Your subscription technically stays active. Netflix retries failed payments and may suspend access, but the account isn’t closed. And while Netflix doesn’t currently report payment history to the major credit bureaus, an unpaid balance sent to collections can land on your credit report and stay there for up to seven years. The odds of that over a single streaming charge are low, but proper cancellation takes about two minutes and removes the risk entirely.
