How to Cancel Norton VPN: Portal, Phone, and Refund Steps

To cancel a Norton VPN subscription, sign in at my.norton.com and turn off auto-renewal under My Subscriptions, call Norton support at 844-488-4540, or cancel through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store if that’s where you originally subscribed. The process takes about five minutes online. Your VPN keeps working until the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for, so you don’t need to time the cancellation to a specific day.

What to Have Ready Before You Start

Pull together three things: the email address on your Norton account, the password, and either your order number or product key. The order number is in the confirmation email Norton sent when you first bought the subscription. If you can’t find it, search your inbox for “Norton order” or “Norton receipt.” You’ll want at least one of these identifiers on hand if you end up requesting a refund.

Check where you actually bought the subscription before you pick a cancellation method. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, Norton cannot cancel it for you. The billing relationship is with Apple or Google, and you have to cancel through their systems. Your original purchase confirmation email will tell you which route applies.

Cancel Through the My Norton Portal

This is the standard path if you bought directly from Norton’s website.

  • Sign in at my.norton.com with your email and password.
  • On the My Account page, open the My Subscriptions tab and find Norton VPN (or Norton 360, if your VPN is bundled) along with its renewal date.
  • Click Cancel Subscription Renewal or Manage Renewal next to the plan.
  • Click Unsubscribe next to Plan Renewal.
  • Select a reason for leaving and click Next.
  • Decline the retention offers by clicking “No thanks, cancel my subscription,” then click Next.
  • Wait for the confirmation message. Allow up to 24 hours for the change to appear in your account.

The portal should show the date your current service period ends. Screenshot that confirmation screen. If a billing dispute surfaces months later, that screenshot is worth more than any verbal assurance from a support agent.

Cancel by Phone

If the portal gives you trouble, or you’d rather talk to someone, call Norton at 844-488-4540. Have your account email and order number ready. The agent will verify your identity, process the cancellation, and can handle a refund request on the same call if you’re still inside the refund window. Phone cancellation is also the fallback when you’ve lost access to the email on your account and can’t sign into the portal.

Expect the call to take longer than the online method. Agents are trained to offer discounts and alternative plans first. Something like “I’d like to cancel, and I’m not interested in retention offers” usually moves things along.

Cancel Through Apple or Google

Apple App Store (iPhone or iPad)

Open the Settings app and tap your name at the top. Tap Subscriptions, find the Norton entry, and tap Cancel Subscription. You may need to scroll down to see the cancel button. If you see a red expiration message instead, the subscription is already canceled.

Google Play Store (Android)

Open the Google Play Store app, or go to play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions in a browser. Select the Norton subscription, tap Cancel subscription, and follow the prompts. Important: uninstalling the Norton app does not cancel the subscription. You’ll keep getting billed until you cancel through Google Play itself.

With both Apple and Google, your VPN access continues through the end of the current billing cycle after you cancel.

Getting Past the Retention Offers

Norton’s cancellation flow includes a screen offering discounted rates or extended trials to keep you subscribed. The offers appear after you select your cancellation reason and before the final confirmation. Click through any “Are you sure?” prompts and look for the button labeled “No thanks, cancel my subscription.” If you’re canceling by phone, the agent may make two or three offers before processing the request. You don’t owe anyone an explanation.

Refunds Are a Separate Request

Canceling auto-renewal and getting a refund are two different actions. Turning off renewal stops future charges but doesn’t return money you’ve already paid. If you want a refund, you have to ask for one, and the window depends on your billing cycle.

  • Annual subscriptions: full refund within 60 days of the purchase date. Each annual renewal payment also qualifies for a full refund within 60 days of being charged.
  • Monthly subscriptions: the initial purchase is refundable within 14 days. Later monthly renewal charges are not eligible for a refund at all.
  • Free trial conversions: if your monthly subscription started as a free trial, the first paid charge is refundable within 14 days. Later months are not.

The monthly renewal exclusion is where most people get caught. If you’ve been paying month-to-month for six months and then decide to cancel, you can stop future charges but you won’t recover past payments beyond that initial 14-day window.

A few other situations change the picture. If you bought Norton VPN through a third party such as an app store, a retailer, or an internet service provider, Norton’s refund policy may not apply, and you’ll need to check the terms of whoever processed your payment. Certain Norton services like Ultimate Help Desk and Privacy Monitor Assistant are only refundable if you haven’t used them yet. And if you cancel a main subscription that has add-ons attached, the add-ons get canceled at the same time.

To request the refund, contact Norton through the support page at support.norton.com or call 844-488-4540. Have your order number, product serial number, or product key ready. Refunds go back to the original payment method and typically take a few business days.

Deleting Your Norton Account

Canceling your subscription stops billing but keeps your Norton account intact. If you want your data removed, you can request permanent account deletion through Norton’s privacy portal. This is irreversible and immediately cuts off any remaining subscription time, so wait until your current service period has expired and any refund has been processed.

Sign in at my.norton.com, go to Privacy Options, and select Delete My Data. Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm. On Android, you can start the same process from inside the Norton VPN app under Settings, then About, then Delete My Account.
