To cancel your Showmax subscription, go to whichever service actually bills you each month and cancel there: Showmax itself, Apple, Google Play, DStv, or PayPal. The process takes about two minutes once you’re in the right place. The catch is that cancelling inside Showmax won’t stop the charges if a third party is handling your payment, so step one is always figuring out where the money originates.
Find Out Who’s Charging You
Log into your Showmax account and open your subscription details. The billing information tells you who to deal with. If you can’t tell from there, check your bank or credit card statement; the merchant name on the charge gives it away.
Your billing will fall into one of five categories:
- Direct through Showmax, with your card or bank details on file with Showmax itself.
- Apple App Store, if you subscribed on an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV.
- Google Play, if you subscribed on an Android device.
- DStv, if Showmax is bundled with your DStv package.
- PayPal, if your payments run as an automatic PayPal payment.
Cancel Directly Through Showmax
If Showmax bills you directly, this is the fastest route. Log into your account on the Showmax website or app and open your account settings. Find the subscription or billing section where your active plan and payment details appear, then select the option to cancel.
Showmax will usually ask why you’re leaving before processing the cancellation. Pick a reason or choose “Other” and move through the prompts. Once you confirm, an on-screen message should confirm the cancellation, and a confirmation email should land in your inbox within a few minutes. Take a screenshot of the confirmation page. If nothing arrives, log back in and check that your subscription status actually shows as cancelled rather than active.
Cancel Through Apple
If you subscribed through an Apple device, Showmax cannot cancel it for you. Apple controls the billing. On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find Showmax in the list and tap Cancel Subscription.1Apple. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
On a Mac, open the App Store, click your name in the bottom-left corner, go to Account Settings, and find Subscriptions. On an Apple TV, go to Settings, then Users and Accounts, then Subscriptions. If Showmax isn’t listed under your Apple subscriptions at all, your billing runs through a different channel.
Cancel Through Google Play
Open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile icon in the top-right corner, then select Payments and Subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Tap Showmax, then Cancel Subscription, and follow the prompts.
Deleting the Showmax app from your phone does not cancel the subscription. Google will keep billing you until you cancel through the Play Store itself. If you’ve already deleted the app, you can still manage subscriptions at play.google.com in a browser signed into the same Google account.
Cancel Through DStv
If Showmax came bundled with your DStv package, you unlink it through DStv rather than through Showmax. Sign into the DStv website or app and open “Manage Account Links.” From there, unlink Showmax from your DStv account, which removes the add-on from your next DStv bill.2DStv. How Do I Unlink a Package
DStv may send a confirmation code by SMS during the unlinking process, so keep your phone handy. After unlinking, check your DStv account to confirm the Showmax line item no longer appears on your upcoming bill. If the self-service portal gives you trouble, contacting DStv customer support is often faster than troubleshooting it on your own.
Cancel Through PayPal
If your Showmax payments route through PayPal, stop them by removing the automatic payment agreement. On the PayPal website, go to Settings, click Payments, then Automatic Payments (sometimes labeled “Subscriptions and saved businesses”). Find Showmax, select it, and cancel the automatic payment.3PayPal. What Is an Automatic Payment and How Do I Update or Cancel One
In the PayPal mobile app, tap the menu icon, then Subscriptions or Linked Businesses. Tap Showmax, select Stop Paying with PayPal, and confirm by tapping Unlink.
What Happens After You Cancel
Cancelling doesn’t cut off access the same day. You keep watching until the end of your current billing cycle, so if your last payment ran on the 10th of the month, you typically have access through the 9th of the following month. Your account dashboard should show the exact expiry date.
After that date, your account still exists but you lose access to content. Showmax generally retains your profile, so if you resubscribe later, your watchlist and preferences should still be there. You won’t need to start a new account from scratch.
Check your bank or credit card statement a few days after the next billing date would have hit. If a charge still appears, contact the billing party (Showmax, Apple, Google, DStv, or PayPal) with your cancellation confirmation. This almost never happens when you cancel through the right channel, but catching a stray charge early is much easier than disputing one months later.
