How to Cancel Sky Broadband: Notice, Fees, and Exit Rules

To cancel Sky Broadband, give Sky at least 14 days’ notice by phone (150 from a Sky line), through the Sky Assistant chat at sky.com/help, or by direct message on Facebook, Instagram, or X. If you’re still inside your minimum contract term, you’ll owe early termination charges unless you qualify for an exemption. And if you’re moving to another broadband provider, you usually don’t need to contact Sky at all.

Switching to Another Provider? Don’t Call Sky

Under Ofcom’s One Touch Switch system, you only need to place an order with your new broadband provider. They handle the switch, and Sky Broadband ends automatically on the day the new service goes live.1Ofcom. Simpler and Quicker Broadband Switching Is Here

You don’t have to phone Sky or give separate notice. Once you confirm the order with the new provider, Sky will send you information about any early termination charges and the impact on any bundled services, so you can decide before the switch completes. Those charges still apply through One Touch Switch if you’re inside your minimum term.

How to Give Notice if You’re Not Switching

If you’re leaving broadband altogether, or moving somewhere Sky doesn’t reach, you need to contact Sky yourself and give at least 14 days’ notice.2Sky. How to Cancel Your Sky Broadband Before you get in touch, find your account number (top right of your monthly bill, or in the My Sky app under your profile) and check your minimum term end date in the My Account section on Sky’s website. That date decides whether you’ll owe early termination charges.

You can cancel through any of these channels:

  • Phone: call 150 free from a Sky Talk landline or Sky Mobile, or the standard customer service number from any other phone.
  • Online chat: use the Sky Assistant at sky.com/help and ask to speak with a person if the automated assistant can’t help.
  • Social media: direct message Sky on Facebook, Instagram, or X.

Note the date you gave notice and any reference number you’re given. Your service continues, and you’re billed as normal, until the cancellation date.

The 31-Day Cooling-Off Period

If you only recently signed up, you have 31 days to change your mind, more than the 14 days required by law. The clock starts from whichever happens last: delivery of the router, activation of the service, or receipt of the terms and conditions.2Sky. How to Cancel Your Sky Broadband

Cancel inside this window and Sky refunds your payments, including equipment delivery costs. A few things stay chargeable: if you asked for the service to start during the cooling-off period and used it, you’ll pay a proportionate amount for the days used; one-off activation or setup fees aren’t refunded once the service is live; and a booked managed installation costs you if you don’t cancel it before 3:30pm the working day before the appointment.2Sky. What Early Termination Will Cost

Cancel before your minimum term ends and Sky applies an early termination charge. Standard Sky contracts now run 24 months, and the charge is calculated per product, so broadband and any bundled talk package each carry their own fee.3Sky. Charges for Ending Your Sky Contract Early

Sky takes your monthly subscription price and deducts the costs they save by no longer providing the service, plus a discount for receiving one lump sum rather than staggered monthly payments. The result is multiplied by the number of months left on your contract.3Sky. Charges for Ending Your Sky Contract Early If you’re on a promotional rate rather than the standard price, the charge is lower.

When You Can Leave Penalty-Free

After a Price Rise

Sky uses variable pricing and can raise prices at any time. Ofcom rules give you the right to walk away without paying early termination fees whenever Sky increases your price mid-contract.4Sky Group. An Update on Our Prices You have to act within 30 days of the price increase notification. Miss that window and you’re treated as having accepted the new price.

On the Sky Broadband Basics Social Tariff

Customers on Sky Broadband Basics, the social tariff for people on Universal Credit or certain other benefits, are exempt from early termination charges. The package still has a 24-month contract, but Sky won’t charge you for leaving early.5Sky. Sky Social Tariffs

Returning Your Equipment

After your service ends, you need to return any loaned equipment such as the Sky Hub or Sky Broadband Booster.6Sky. Return or Recycle Sky Equipment Sky usually sends prepaid return packaging near the end of the cancellation period, and you can also print a return label from your online account. Drop the parcel at the designated collection point for tracked delivery.

You have around 60 days from the end of service to complete the return. Miss it and Sky charges a non-return fee that varies by device: up to £75 for a Sky Max Hub, up to £53 for a standard Sky Broadband Hub, up to £68 for a Sky Max Pod, and up to £33 for a Sky Broadband Booster. Keep the postage receipt and tracking number in case the parcel goes missing.

Cancelling After a Bereavement

If the account holder has died, a family member or representative can either transfer the account to a next of kin or close it. Call or message Sky with the account number, a copy of the death certificate, and contact details for whoever should receive the final statement; Sky’s bereavement team handles it from there.7Sky.
