To cancel Spotify Duo, the plan manager signs in at spotify.com/account in a web browser, opens Change Plan, and selects Cancel Premium under Spotify Free. Both accounts keep Premium features until the current billing cycle ends. The desktop and mobile apps don’t include a cancel button, so the web page is the only route when Spotify bills you directly.
Who Can Cancel the Plan
Only the plan manager, the account tied to the payment method, can cancel a Duo subscription. If you were invited to join someone else’s Duo, you don’t have access to the billing controls and can’t end the plan for both people. You can, however, remove yourself at any time without the manager’s involvement. The steps for each role are different, so check which one applies to you before starting.
Steps for the Plan Manager
You need a web browser on a phone, tablet, or computer. The Spotify app won’t work for this.
- Go to spotify.com/account and sign in with the plan manager’s credentials.
- Under “Your plan,” click Change Plan.
- Scroll to Spotify Free and click Cancel Premium.1Spotify. How to Cancel Premium Plans
- Answer the exit questions and click through until you see the final confirmation, which shows the date your Premium access ends.
If you don’t reach that final confirmation screen, the subscription stays active and you’ll be charged on the next billing date. Look for an on-screen confirmation and a follow-up email. Tell the other person on your plan, because their Premium ends on the same date yours does.1Spotify. How to Cancel Premium Plans
Steps for the Invited Member
The navigation is identical: spotify.com/account, Change Plan under “Your plan,” then Cancel Premium under Spotify Free. Your account drops to the free tier, and the manager’s Duo subscription continues without you. You can sign up for your own Individual Premium plan afterward if you want one.
Leaving doesn’t delete your library, playlists, or listening history. What you lose is ad-free listening, offline downloads, and the shared Duo Mix playlist. If you resubscribe later, you can re-download saved music for offline use.
Switching to Individual Instead of Canceling
If you still want Premium for yourself, switch plans instead of canceling. From spotify.com/account, click Change Plan and select the Individual plan. Spotify doesn’t charge you right away. You keep Duo benefits through the end of the current billing cycle, and Individual pricing starts on the next payment date. The other person on your Duo plan loses Premium at that point.
If You’re Billed Through Apple or Google
When you originally subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, Spotify’s website won’t show a cancel button. The subscription lives with the store handling your payment.

If your Duo plan is billed through a mobile carrier or internet provider, Spotify’s account page shows a contact link under “Payment” that points to that company. Cancel with them directly.1Spotify. How to Cancel Premium Plans
What Happens After You Cancel
Premium access continues on both accounts until the next billing date. You can find that date at the top of your account page at spotify.com/account, or in the Spotify app under Settings and Privacy, then Account, then Billing.4Spotify. Your Billing Date
On that date, both accounts move to the free tier. Playlists, liked songs, and listening history stay on each account. Offline downloads are removed from your devices, though the music is still available to stream. The shared Duo Mix playlist typically disappears once the accounts are no longer linked.1Spotify. Refunds
Spotify generally doesn’t refund time already paid. You keep Premium through the end of the period you were last charged for, and that’s it. If you cancel during a free trial, you drop to the free tier immediately and aren’t charged.5Spotify. Refund Policy
Spotify doesn’t offer phone support. If you believe a charge was an error, use the online messaging tool at support.spotify.com/contact-spotify-support. For subscriptions billed through Apple or Google, refund requests go to those companies, not Spotify.5Spotify. Refund Policy
