To cancel an Apple subscription, open your subscription settings on an iPhone, Mac, or at account.apple.com, select the subscription, and tap Cancel Subscription. That is the whole process, and it works the same way whether you’re ending Apple TV+, Apple Music, iCloud+, or a third-party app billed through your Apple Account. Knowing how to cancel Apple subscriptions properly matters mostly for what comes next: what happens to your access, your iCloud data, and anyone sharing the plan with you.1Apple Support. Cancel on iPhone or iPad
Most people signed up on their phone, so this is usually the right place to cancel.
- Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions. Every active and expired subscription tied to your Apple Account appears here.
- Tap the subscription you want to end.
- Tap Cancel Subscription. If you don’t see the button and instead see an expiration message in red text, it’s already canceled.
No confirmation call, no chat, no retention offers. The cancellation processes immediately.1Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple
Cancel on a Mac
On a Mac, subscriptions live in the App Store rather than System Settings.
- Open the App Store and click your name in the bottom-left corner.
- Click Account Settings at the top. You may need to sign in again.
- Find the Manage section and click Manage next to Subscriptions.
- Click Edit next to the subscription, then click Cancel Subscription and confirm.
Sign in with the same Apple Account you used when you originally subscribed. If you use different accounts for iCloud and the App Store, subscriptions can be split between them.2Apple Support. Cancel, Change, or Share Subscriptions in the App Store on Mac
Cancel from a Web Browser
If you’re on Windows, Android, or just don’t have an Apple device nearby, go to account.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, and follow the on-screen prompts to find and cancel the subscription. Two-factor authentication will ask for a six-digit code sent to a trusted device before you can get in.1Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple
What Happens After You Cancel
Canceling doesn’t cut off access right away. You keep the service until the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for, and the subscription list shows the exact expiration date. If renewal is three weeks out, you have three weeks of use left.1Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple
Once that date passes, access stops. For Apple Music, songs from the catalog won’t play and catalog-based playlists become unavailable. Music you owned before subscribing stays on your device.3Apple Support. How to Cancel Apple Music – Section: After Your Subscription Expires
Free Trials Work Differently
Free and discounted trials are the exception. Canceling a trial can end your access immediately on some services rather than letting you ride out the remaining days. To avoid being charged when a trial converts to paid, cancel at least 24 hours before it expires.
Canceling iCloud+: Protect Your Data First
Canceling iCloud+ carries real risk because your photos, device backups, and files may be at stake. When the plan expires, Apple downgrades your account to the free 5 GB tier. If stored data exceeds 5 GB, new backups stop running, photo syncing pauses, and iCloud Mail may stop receiving messages.
Your data isn’t deleted the moment the subscription lapses. Apple gives you a window after downgrade to resubscribe or reduce your usage, but doesn’t publish a guaranteed retention timeline. Treat the expiration date as a hard deadline. Before canceling, export photos to your device, save iCloud Drive files locally, and make a recent backup stored somewhere other than iCloud.
If You Share the Plan with Family
If you organize a Family Sharing group and cancel a shared subscription like Apple One or Apple Music Family, every member loses access when the subscription expires. Members don’t get their own grace period and can’t pick up the same plan independently.
Shared purchases are affected too. When someone leaves or is removed from a Family Sharing group, they immediately lose access to apps, music, and other content purchased by other family members. Already-downloaded content isn’t automatically deleted, but they’d need to buy it independently to keep using it. For a shared app where a family member made in-app purchases, they’ll need to purchase that app on their own account to regain access to those purchases.4Apple Support. You See a Charge but No Subscription
You spot an Apple charge on your card, but nothing appears in your subscription list. A few likely reasons:
- Wrong Apple Account. If you’ve used more than one Apple ID, the subscription may belong to the other one. Sign into each account and check Settings > Your Name > Subscriptions on each.
- Billed directly by the developer. Some apps handle their own billing outside Apple’s system. If nothing shows up in Apple settings, cancel through the app itself or the developer’s website.
- Processing delay. Very new subscriptions can take a few days to appear. If it’s been less than a week, check again later.
If none of those fit, contact Apple Support. They can see charges on your account that aren’t visible through the standard settings.
Request a Refund for a Charge You Didn’t Want
Canceling stops future charges but doesn’t refund past ones. If you were billed for a renewal you didn’t expect, or a subscription you thought you’d already canceled, request a refund through Apple’s Report a Problem tool.
- Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in.
- Tap or click “I’d like to,” then choose “Request a refund.”
- Select the reason and tap Next.
- Choose the specific charge and submit.
Apple typically responds within 24 to 48 hours. Pending charges can’t be refunded until they finish processing and you receive the email receipt. If a Family Sharing member made the purchase, the family organizer has to submit the request. Refunds aren’t guaranteed; Apple reviews each one individually.5Apple Support.
