To cancel a Sun Tan City membership, log in to the Sun Tan City app or your online account dashboard, open your membership settings, and submit the cancellation before the last day of your current billing month. The company does not accept cancellations by phone, email, or chat for account security reasons.1Sun Tan City. Canceling Through the App or Online Dashboard
Sun Tan City’s own FAQ keeps it short: “Just log in on the app to manage your account and cancel.”3Sun Tan City. Sun Tan City FAQs The steps are the same whether you use the mobile app or the website:
- Open the Sun Tan City app or go to suntancity.com and sign in to your member account.
- Go to your account or membership settings.
- Select the option to cancel your membership.
- Follow the confirmation prompts until an on-screen message tells you the cancellation went through.
If the app or site won’t let you complete the request, walking into your local salon and asking a staff member for help is a reasonable fallback. Bring a photo ID so they can pull up your account.
What Won’t Work
Calling the salon, emailing customer service, or using online chat to cancel will not end your membership. Sun Tan City’s contact page states outright that cancellations cannot be processed through those channels.1Sun Tan City. Contact Sun Tan City If you’ve been told over the phone that your membership was canceled, treat that as unreliable until you’ve done it yourself in the app.
The Deadline That Decides Whether You Pay Again
Billing runs on a monthly cycle, and the cancellation has to be submitted before the last day of your current month. Sun Tan City puts it this way: “Please do so by the last day of the month to avoid another charge.”3Sun Tan City. Sun Tan City FAQs Cancel on the 30th and the membership ends. Cancel on the 1st of the next month and you’ve already been charged for that month, with no prorated refund for the days you don’t use.
Don’t leave it to the final hour. Submit the cancellation a few days early so a login problem or app glitch doesn’t push you into another billing cycle.
Save Proof That You Canceled
Screenshot the confirmation screen the moment it appears. If a confirmation email lands in your inbox, save that too. These are what you’ll use if a charge shows up next month that shouldn’t.
If you had to cancel in person at a salon because the app wouldn’t cooperate, ask the staff member for a printed or emailed confirmation of the cancellation date. Note their name and the salon location. If they can’t produce a receipt, write the date and time down yourself.
Freeze Instead of Cancel
If you’re only stepping away for a while, freezing the account is often the better move. Sun Tan City charges $5 a month to freeze a membership once you’ve met the minimum payment requirement, and you set it up in the same app or online dashboard.3Sun Tan City. Sun Tan City FAQs
A few things make the freeze more useful than it looks. You pick your own reactivation date; if you don’t pick one, the account unfreezes automatically after 12 months. When you come back, you pay a prorated amount for the rest of that month instead of a full new payment. Every dollar you paid in freeze fees is credited to your Sun Tan City account when you reactivate, and your original membership terms and pricing carry over with no new enrollment fee.3Sun Tan City. If You Keep Getting Charged
Watch your bank or credit card statements for at least two billing cycles after the cancellation date. If a charge appears that shouldn’t, start with Sun Tan City’s customer service email at customerservice@suntancity.com. Attach the confirmation and give the date you submitted the cancellation.
When the company won’t fix it, the Fair Credit Billing Act gives you a dispute path if you paid with a credit card. Send your card issuer a written notice within 60 days of the statement date that shows the incorrect charge.4Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1666 – Correction of Billing Errors The letter needs your name, account number, and a description of the charge in dispute. Mail it to the billing inquiries address on your credit card statement, not the address you use for payments.5Federal Trade Commission. Using Credit Cards and Disputing Charges
Once you file, the card issuer has to acknowledge the dispute within 30 days and resolve it within 90 days. During the investigation you can withhold payment on the disputed amount, and the issuer can’t report you as delinquent or send that charge to collections.5Federal Trade Commission. Using Credit Cards and Disputing Charges If Sun Tan City is pulling from a debit card or bank account, call your bank about blocking further withdrawals. Debit disputes carry weaker federal protection than credit card disputes.
When the Company Makes Canceling Hard
The FTC finalized a Click-to-Cancel rule in October 2024 that applies to “almost all negative option programs in any media,” auto-renewing memberships included.6Federal Trade Commission. Federal Trade Commission Announces Final Click-to-Cancel Rule Most of the rule took effect 180 days after publication in the Federal Register. The core requirement: canceling has to be at least as easy as signing up. If you enrolled online, an online cancellation has to be available, and the company can’t force you into a phone call or in-person visit that wasn’t part of the sign-up process. Complaints about unreasonably difficult cancellations can be filed with the FTC at ftc.gov.
