How to Cancel SurveyMonkey Subscription: Web, App Stores, and Refunds

To cancel a SurveyMonkey subscription, turn off auto-renew in the billing channel that signed you up: the SurveyMonkey website if you paid by card or invoice, the Apple App Store if you subscribed through the iOS app, or Google Play if you subscribed on Android. Canceling in the wrong place is the single most common reason people believe they canceled and keep getting charged. Your paid features stay active until the end of the current billing cycle, and SurveyMonkey does not refund the unused portion.

Figure Out Who Is Actually Billing You

Log in to SurveyMonkey on a desktop browser, click your profile circle in the upper-right corner, and select My Account. Open the Billing Details tab. This screen shows your renewal date, payment method, and whether auto-renew is on.

If it lists a credit card or invoice, SurveyMonkey bills you directly and you can cancel from that page. If it says the subscription was purchased through the iOS app, Apple handles billing and you have to cancel in your iPhone settings. The same goes for Google Play purchases on Android. SurveyMonkey’s website cannot stop charges that Apple or Google is running.

Cancel on the SurveyMonkey Website

For subscriptions billed directly by SurveyMonkey:

  • Log in and click the profile circle in the upper-right corner, then select My Account.
  • Click the Billing Details tab.
  • Find the Auto-renew setting under Billing Profile and click the link next to it.
  • Follow the prompts. SurveyMonkey may ask you to complete a short exit survey before confirming.
  • Watch for an on-screen confirmation and an email verifying that auto-renew has been turned off.

Turning off auto-renew stops the next charge. You keep full access to paid features until the renewal date, at which point the account downgrades to the free Basic plan.1SurveyMonkey. Canceling or Deleting Your SurveyMonkey Account Screenshot the confirmation. If a charge appears later, that screenshot is your evidence for disputing it.

Signed up for a free trial with a card on file? The card is charged automatically when the trial ends unless you turn off auto-renew first, using the same steps. Canceling during the trial does not cut off access early; you keep paid features until the trial expires, and SurveyMonkey simply does not charge you at that point.1SurveyMonkey. Cancel Through the Apple App Store

If you subscribed in the SurveyMonkey iOS app, Apple controls the billing and SurveyMonkey’s own settings cannot stop it.

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Tap your name at the top of the screen.
  • Tap Subscriptions.
  • Find SurveyMonkey in the list and tap Cancel Subscription.

The subscription stays active through the end of the period you already paid for.2Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple

Cancel Through Google Play

Android subscribers have to cancel through Google, not through the SurveyMonkey app or website.

  • Open the Google Play app and go to your subscriptions page.
  • Select the SurveyMonkey subscription.
  • Tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions.

Uninstalling the SurveyMonkey app does not cancel anything. Google will keep charging the linked payment method until you cancel through the steps above.3Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play

When the Self-Service Option Is Missing

Two situations hide the cancel option in your dashboard:

  • Sales-assisted accounts. Subscriptions set up through the SurveyMonkey sales team, common for Enterprise contracts, do not expose a self-service cancel option. You have to contact SurveyMonkey support.
  • Outstanding invoices. If there is an unpaid invoice on the account, the cancel option stays hidden until the balance is resolved.

Phone support runs Monday through Friday, 3 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time, and is available only to Premier, Team Premier, and Enterprise plan holders. Everyone else uses online support channels.4SurveyMonkey. How to Contact SurveyMonkey

If you are the Primary Admin of a team plan, note that canceling drops every seat to a free Basic account and dissolves the team entirely. Give members time to export their data first.1SurveyMonkey. Canceling or Deleting Your SurveyMonkey Account

Refunds and Timing

SurveyMonkey does not refund unused time on a subscription. Cancel on day one of an annual plan or day 364, and the result is the same: access through the end of the billing cycle, no money back.1SurveyMonkey. Canceling or Deleting Your SurveyMonkey Account There are no early termination fees. You stop owing anything beyond what you have already paid.

One exception: users located in the European Union who upgraded a new account within the past 14 days may be entitled to a refund under SurveyMonkey’s European Union Subscription Cancellation Policy.1SurveyMonkey. Canceling or Deleting Your SurveyMonkey Account

What You Lose When the Plan Downgrades

Your account does not disappear. At the end of the current billing period, SurveyMonkey switches you to the free Basic plan. Surveys and collected responses stay in the account, but several limits kick in immediately.1SurveyMonkey. Canceling or Deleting Your SurveyMonkey Account

Basic caps response visibility at 25 per survey. A survey that collected 500 responses on a paid plan will only show 25 after the downgrade.5SurveyMonkey. SurveyMonkey Free Vs. Paid Surveys and Forms This is the limit that catches people out. Export your data before you cancel if you need the full dataset.

CSV, PDF, and other data export formats are paid-only.6SurveyMonkey. CSV Exports So are question types like matrix and rating scales, and the AI-powered analysis tools. Surveys built with paid features still exist in the account, but you cannot send them or view their advanced results until you upgrade again. Free surveys are also capped at 10 questions each, so any longer survey needs to be trimmed before you can send it.5SurveyMonkey. SurveyMonkey Free Vs. Paid Surveys and Forms

Canceling Is Not the Same as Deleting

Canceling stops future charges and downgrades you to the free tier. Deleting removes the account and all data permanently. If you just want to stop paying, cancellation is enough. Deletion is for people who want no trace left.

To delete, log in on a desktop browser, go to My Account, scroll to the bottom, and select Permanently delete account. You review a summary of what will be removed, check a series of confirmation boxes, and enter a verification code sent to your email. The account locks immediately and all data is erased from SurveyMonkey’s systems within 90 days.1SurveyMonkey. Canceling or Deleting Your SurveyMonkey Account You cannot delete an account that is currently part of a team; the Primary Admin has to remove you first, or the team plan has to be canceled. Deleting one account also does not affect other SurveyMonkey accounts tied to the same email address, which must each be deleted on their own.
