To cancel anything on Uber, you work through the app or the Uber website, and the rules that matter are the deadlines: cancel an Uber One membership at least 48 hours before renewal, cancel a ride within two minutes on economy trips or five on premium, and cancel an Uber Eats order before the restaurant accepts it. Deleting your account is a separate process with a 30-day reversal window. Here is how each one works.
Cancel an Uber One Membership
Uber One runs $9.99 per month or $96 per year in the United States. To stop it from renewing:
- Tap the Account icon in the Uber app.
- Tap Uber One.
- Scroll down and tap Manage Membership.
- Select End Membership and follow the prompts.

The 48-Hour Deadline
Cancel at least 48 hours before your next renewal date. Miss that window and you’ll be charged for another cycle, and you’ll need to contact Uber support directly for help.2Uber Help. Refunds on the Annual Plan
If you paid a year up front, Uber will issue a full refund only if you cancel within 30 days of subscribing and haven’t used any Uber One benefits during that time. Once you’ve redeemed a discount or free delivery, that refund option is gone. You can still use the rest of your annual term after canceling, but there is no partial refund.1Uber Help. Cancel a Ride
Whether you pay a fee depends on how quickly you cancel and which service you booked. For economy rides (UberX, UberXL, Comfort, Pet), a cancellation fee applies if you cancel two or more minutes after requesting. To cancel an upcoming or scheduled ride, tap your profile icon, select Trips, choose Upcoming from the dropdown, select the trip, and tap Cancel Ride.4Uber Help. Canceling an Uber Trip
When No Fee Applies
Even after the grace period, you shouldn’t be charged if your driver is still finishing another dropoff or if the driver hasn’t made progress toward your pickup location.3Uber Help. Cancellation Fees Explained Canceling an economy ride inside the first two minutes is always free.
Disputing a Cancellation Fee
If a fee looks wrong, dispute it in the app:
- Tap the account icon, then Help.
- Scroll down and tap Trip Issues and Refunds.
- Select the trip where the fee was charged.
- Choose a reason and submit.

Cancel an Uber Eats Order
Open your active order in the Uber Eats app, tap Help in the upper-right area, select Cancel Order, and confirm. A full refund is only guaranteed if you cancel before the restaurant has accepted the order. Once preparation starts, a refund is unlikely or partial at best.6Uber Help. Cancel My Order
Restaurants often accept orders within a minute or two, so if you’ve changed your mind, cancel right away.
Delete Your Uber Account
Deleting your account removes your profile across all Uber services, rides and Uber Eats included. You can start the process in the app or on the web, and Uber will verify your identity through a temporary code sent to your registered phone number.7Uber Help. I Need Help Deleting My Uber Account
In the App
Go to Account, then Settings. Tap Privacy, scroll down, and select Account Deletion. Follow the prompts to finish.8Uber Help. Delete My Uber Account
On the Web
Go to myprivacy.uber.com/privacy/deleteyouraccount and follow the instructions. This route works if you’ve already uninstalled the app. If you no longer have access to the phone number on file, Uber directs you to its “I can’t update my phone number or email” help page first.8Uber Help. If You Have a Business Profile
A linked business profile is a separate deletion. Once removed, you can’t take trips on that profile or receive travel reports. For company-managed accounts, contact the account administrator at business.uber.com.9Uber Help. Delete My Business Profile
What Happens After You Delete
Your account is deactivated right away but not immediately erased. Uber holds it in a deactivated state for 30 days, and during that window you can restore it by logging back in.8Uber Help. Delete My Uber Account
After 30 days the deletion is permanent. Unused credits, promotions, Uber Cash, and rewards are removed at that point and can’t be recovered.8Uber Help. Delete My Uber Account If you have Uber Cash or a gift card balance, spend it before you start; there’s no way to cash it out or transfer it.
Data Uber Keeps
Permanent deletion doesn’t erase every trace. Uber retains certain account information, location data, and transaction records for up to seven years after your deletion request, covering legal obligations like tax records, potential litigation or insurance claims, fraud prevention, and transportation regulatory requirements.10Uber Help.
